Juanita & Maude
Juanita & Maude's cozy dining room and bar is the perfect spot for a night out, celebratory occasion and special private events. Conveniently located near the corner of Solano and San Pablo Avenues, Juanita & Maude is the perfect place to eat before a show at the Albany Twin, Ivy Room or simply seeking an exceptional experience.
Love the food- original and tasty. My 4th time here. Not great for the hard of hearing- a bit noisy
Love this place. Great food, nice people. We usually sit in the back area which is outside and is very quiet compared to the main dining area inside.
Amazing meal! We sat on the outside patio and it was inviting and not too crowded. The fried chicken was excellent and the malted chocolate cake was one of the best desserts I've ever had. A bit pricey, but worth it, especially for a special occasion.
We loved Chef Eastman’s cooking at Corso, and it is even better here. We sat outside in the back and it was more than pleasant as we dined on duck taquitos, shrimp n grits, salmon and steak! Definitely coming back...again and again
Had a great meal with wonderful service! Normally would not order a hamburger. I am really glad I did - worth trying if it is the special!
We heard about Juanita & Maude from an episode of Check Please, Bay Area. It looked great and didn't disappoint. The food was delicious and the service was very good. The space was a little noisy but manageable. My favorite dishes were the Tuna carpaccio and chicken pate from the beginnings, and the Shrimp & Grits from the Firsts were to die for! So good. I would definitely go back!
Two of the five plates we ordered were the usual home runs we’ve come to expect from Jaunita & Maude. The others weren’t bad, just not up to the lofty standards we’ve had there previously.
Favorite east bay spot. Quality driven and something for everyone.
Better than ever. Ate with friends on the outdoor patio in back
Service great, food terrific
Couldnt have bern better
An instant neighborhood star serving up to-the-moment fresh food in a style that will shock no one but please almost everyone. Call its food confidently understated, professionally served and with lovingly perfected recipes. ALso, a surprisingly long and diverse wine list: on one of the hottest nights of the year, when I was craving the hanger steak, a featherweight cru Beaujolais-Village really sang.
Amazing service and food. Menu is unlike any other restaurant.
Another fantastic meal! The outdoor space is lovely and fairly quiet (inside can be noisier) and the service and food were on point as always.
We enjoyed a quiet outdoor table with excellent service. Our salad and pasta dishes were delicious, but portions were small for the price. The burger & fries special was nicely done but also quite expensive at $21. The hanger steak entree was also very good but pricey.
Another spectacular meal at J&M. Every experience there brings something new on the menu and this time was no different. I was tempted to just order all the starters, but refrained. The dumplings were delicious as always and the Gnudi fresh as Spring with fava beans. The spicy house-made pork sausage with white beans was a delight, but again the strawberry granita with Parmesan ice cream was over the top. Thank you to the stellar and informative staff supporting some of the best cooking the East Bay has to offer.
The noise level is in acceptable. The gathering by the bar is not large enough for people coming in to sit down with a reservation,
Our good came very late after those around us who had come in after us were served
The waitress was fine and put her arm around my husbands shpulders
Second time there. Food, service is exceptional!
J+M is always a great experience. The staff is charming, the food and drinks are delicious, and the setting is lovely.
The donburi is excellent. Great wine list and service.
Lovely neighborhood restaurant with an interesting menu that changes daily. Everything is high quality, delicious and beautifully plated without being fussy. The relaxed and friendly atmosphere makes it a wonderful place for a dinner party. Will be returning often.
We loved the food and cocktails. Service was excellent. Only complaint is the noise level. We had a 5:30 reservation. By the time we left, the noise was way too loud. Hope they can do something to fix it. Otherwise, it is an absolutely delightful place for a wonderful meal!
Great service and food was interesting and well presented and tasty
The food was sensational! Very flavorful, fresh, perfectly cooked and presented. The service was also top notch. I really enjoyed our meal and look forward to returning.
Loved it. We were given a gift certificate from someone who said it was their favorite place to eat. It did not cover it all but We took full advantage and ordered four courses and many cocktails. The patio was the place to sit as it was much more quiet than inside. We could hear the music and talk. Thank you for a wonderful evening. We will be back!
Wonderful. Sat outside with a group of friends and had a great time here. Food was great and service was excellent. I cant wait to go back
We had to wait about 40 minutes after our reservation time with little to no updates on how long of a wait there was. Not really sure what the point of reservations are if you still must wait that long. Food always great though!
Lovely local dinner spot. Food was very good. Only thing I didn’t love was the dumplings but everything else was excellent. The host was super accommodating since I had to add 2 extra seats to an already large party last minute. We appreciated it and had a wonderful birthday get together.
Every person there has your complete satisfaction as their top priority. Cuisine is sublime. A bit noisy perhaps but manageable, and seating out back is quieter. Memorable in every way. A neighborhood treasure.
Outstanding! Food was eclectic and delicious - seasonal, flavorful, and interesting without being too heady - portions are appropriate, prices are reasonable, space is comfortable and classy. Overall attention to detail truly displays the owners’ and chef’s passion for hospitality. Will be back many times and recommend it to everyone.
For the first time, I had a so so chicken dish. It has always been very noisy. The tables are so close together, you almost always are involved in the next table’s talk + hard to get in n out without disrupting others. Service is up and down- server good. Overall- disappointing.
Messy food, too pricey, too noisy, small portions, I don’t get the fuss over this place, when you can go to Oliveto or Chez Panisse or Rivoli for a better meal for the same prices ?
Juantia & Maude is hands down my favorite restaurant. Such a special place. The cocktails, food and service are always top notch and are always improving. We ordered the majority of the menu last night and everything was incredible. I think my favorite was the risotto. . .it was absolutely perfect in every way. The menu changes all the time and nearly every dish is in some way revelatory. Each item is well thought out and while the food is sophisticated, it is not challenging. . No foams, gels or silly ingredients . . . Completely technique and ingredient driven food. So very good! Desserts are also a must. . . If there are madeleines on the menu you have to get them. Each and every time they come to the table people actually squeal in delight. . . Tiny, pillowy perfection! I wish the pastry chef could see how much joy his creations evoke! Service is excellent.
We were a little disappointed - think the restaurant has had too much hype! I think our expectations were far beyond the actual experience. The food was a solid B, but not as imaginative as I expected and the price point too high for what we had. Only a week before we had dinner at another east bay gem and enjoyed
olives, bread and butter, two salads and one soup, three entrees, a lillet, two glasses of wine, 1 desert and 1 coffee for the same price as one cocktail (poor), 1 glass of wine, two appetizers, one order of bread (paid extra), three entrees, one desert (madeleines which were made with some corn meal and as such were disappointing, since we expected - madeleines). Price point - not so good.
That being said, I would tell friends about the Juanita and Maude and encourage them to try it and make up their own minds.
Everything and everyone were excellent! The ambiance was great, service, especially. Shout out to Chris, who dutifully filled glasses and folded napkins when guests left the table. Oliver was excellent as well. They’re busy, but make the time for you when you need it, so you know it’s well-run.
Bathroom had fresh flowers in it! And was super clean, a virtual rarity in the Bay Area.
And the food was exquisite. I highly recommend this place. We had a great time.
Great food, great drinks, great service. Perfect date night! Very pricey, so plan ahead.
Chef Eastman is brilliant. Highlights were the artichokes and the halibut. Dessert was incredible, too. Excellent food, fantastic service at the bar. Highly recommended.
Juanita and Maude's has become our favorite neighborhood restaurant. This visit, the fried artichokes and the enchiladas were excellent and always the choices are so appealing it is very hard to make a choice. The servers are extremely cordial and we give them stars for remembering returning customers.
All 4 entres we’re fabulous- well presented with very complementary side dishes.
I eat at J & M at least twice a month. Consistently great everything.
Food is very fresh and well presented. The combination of ingredients in the dishes are imaginative and tasteful.
Great food. Small tables in a crowded noisy dining room with too much traffic by diners and waitstaff. The garden patio is non-descript, chilly with cold décor. Tablecloths might help.
