We never got to eat here because it was CLOSED yet they still accepted reservations through Open table. I got 2 text reminders and an email to confirm yet the restaurant is closed. Get with it JRDN and notify open table that you are closed so that people can’t make reservations!!! You left 7 people stranded on a Friday night. And answer your phone!!!
I am from out of town and was in San Diego for business. I made a reservation at JRDN on OpenTable and I showed up with my 3 colleagues on Friday night and was greeted by a sign that said "JRDN Closed" - turns out the restaurant has been closed for weeks for construction and won't open until March. Why was I able to view JRDN and make a reservation on OpenTable? This was a huge inconvenience and pretty embarrassing as our driver pulled away and we were left not knowing where else to eat. JRDN should have made sure their listing was taken off reservation sites so as not to inconvenience potential guests like me.
Waiter was very attentive. Went on New Years Day with friends, everything was great!
We went for NYE, the pacing was way too quick (all courses served within an hour) and the food was not the same quality that it usually is at JRDN.
The staff was prompt and friendly. The food was excellent and served in good sized portions. Great selection of steak and seafood.
For the price point the food was lacking. Service was OK. Server was not up to date on thewine list nor was the menu. They no longer carried two of our choices at $40 a plate that's just not acceptable.
Terrible experience. We waited 2 hours for our entrees to come. Moreover, we were seated outside even if there are plenty of seats inside. The server was also very rude.
I’ve been to JRDN on many occasions for brunch, but this was my first time for dinner. Their brunch is to die for, but their three course dinner was simply ok. I had ordered the tuna, and my husband had ordered the steak. Sadly, both were overcooked. The tuna was not just seared (as the menu stated), but it was cooked all the way through - making it taste like canned tuna. It was awful. The steak however, was cooked medium (not rare as ordered), but was still tasty. The best part of the meal was definitely the salad - very delicious. The service was lacking as well for the first time, which was disappointing especially for Christmas dinner. The server chose to memorize our orders instead of writing them down. Sadly, this meant that he had entered our orders wrong and incorrect courses were brought out and had to be sent back. This meant that I got to eat my salad after my husband and brother and law had already finished their first course. Not a very nice dining experience and very disappointed for a special Christmas meal.
We are staying in Pacific Beach for 2 weeks and we have been here for 10 days and we have eaten 1 breakfast 1 brunch and 2 dinners at JRDN. Love the food and the outdoor seating.
Went for Christmas dinner. Service was fantastic and food was amazing. They even accommodated the special meal requirements for one person in our group. I will keep coming back here for sure.

The fish dishes were delicately made and creative. They were delicious. The service got very slow and spotty after the tables started to full up.
We were pleasantly surprised to find this restaurant during our trip to San Diego (Pacific Beach). The food was well prepared, excellent presentation and tasted amazing. The risotto and braised short rib appetizers were outstanding. We only wished we saved room for dessert.
The location and views were spectacular. I liked the decor and design of the venue; very chic. It was a hot mid-afternoon business lunch and it was just too hot to stay outside so we moved indoors. They should invest in outdoor shade or umbrellas. The menu sounded good but the food itself was just "ok"; nothing memorable about it. I probably would not go back for lunch but would be willing to try brunch, happy hour, or dinner.
Our table was ignored for several minutes once we sat down, it was 20 minuets before we were served bread...after ordering it was so long before the salad was served, we were told it was because we were after a large party, with all the empty tables that night that did not seem like a valid excuse for poor service. The steak was over cooked, and that overlooked as well, we were given an apology but not offered to make it right.
Have been there many times, really sad to see this place decline.
The burger was made with a very greasy meat and it didn't taste good. The fries were really good. We also ordered a shrimp tostada and it was not good at all. we couldn't even finish it.
First time visiting this restaurant and we can’t wait to go back again!!! Food was delicious!!!

Great way to enjoy a view of the Pacific while grabbing a snack or taking in a beverage.
Unfortunately one of the chefs dishes was awful. The other food was okay. Pasta a little over cooked. Music selection was not appropriate for the ambiance outside & im not picking I tune it out. It would be good for the bar but outside it was bad. Loved the Brussels sprouts & the desserts were on point. Love our server but unfortunately can’t remember her name?
We love to have lunch at JRDN on a sunny, warm day. The food is creative Californian, reasonably priced, and the cocktails are delicious--and overpriced, like everywhere in San Diego these days. I still do not understand why they do not install umbrellas on the patio when the sun is hot overhead. The service used to be somewhat slow, but on this visit it was normally-paced.
The scene on the bike/walk path is worth looking at, with the ocean on the other side of the fence. A short walk to Crystal Pier.
Terrible food and service. We waited for 30 minutes to be seated despite having a reservation. Waited for another 15 minutes to get the water poured. They brought out cold appetizers and swapped the main dishes, blaming it on supply shortage. Worst restaurant I have ever been to.
We made a reservation at JRDN on Thanksgiving for their prix fixe menu. We arrived a few minutes early for our reservation, and had to wait over 30 minutes at the bar for our table. This made no sense because the restaurant was not crowded. We had to ask the hostess a couple times if our table was ready. Finally we were seated, and the hostess tells us that they are "out" of half the sides and one of the entrees listed on the prix fixe menu. I don't know why they didn't tell us this BEFORE making us wait 30 minutes to be seated. I guess they wanted us to spend some money on drinks at the bar.
The waiter comes over and we order some more drinks and a bottle of wine. We then order our food, and it turns out several MORE items are no longer available because they have run out. Our options for thanksgiving sides were Brussels sprouts, potatoes, or broccoli (which was not even on the prix fixe menu). The service was very slow and we still hadn't gotten our wine (we'd been seated for almost an hour at this point). The starter dishes come out and are completely inedible - some cold soup and a cold, dry sweet potato that had been reheated multiple times. Finally the server brings a bottle of wine, but it's white wine, not the red wine we ordered.
At this point, we'd been seated an hour and a half and didn't even have the wine we ordered, so we decided to pay for the drinks we had gotten and leave before getting our meal. As we were leaving, other tables were complaining to management and refusing to pay for their meals, saying they received cold food and tiny portions. It was a complete disaster. I'm just glad we left before having to pay for any of that truly awful food.
JRDN's management was completely incompetent and ruined the holiday for us. You can't advertise a prix fixe menu and then say you're out of over half the items when people get seated. It was an absolute disgrace and the worse experience I've ever had at a restaurant. We went away hungry and disappointed.
Thanksgiving - not sure what the problem was- 30 minutes before service, everyone around us was complaining about the long wait for food. Waiter overwhelmed and we left without eating. Not had issues on previous visits
On thanksgiving, they ran out of a ton of menu items and then didn’t let the customers know until the food came out. They did cut the meal price in half though and were very apologetic! It was still an excellent dinner despite that.
Kitchen understaffed and slow
We had a group of 9 for Thanksgiving, three were under 12 yo. The holiday meal was $45/person... no discount for kids. With the limited selections on the menu, several items were already unavailable with a 5:30 pm reservation. The unavailable salad options were advised and we were able to choose another option, however, the unavailable side dishes were randomly chosen for us. Service was slow and sometimes nonexistent.

I️ was with a party of five for thanksgiving so admittedly it was not their normal flow. But geez was the food super average at best and the service at a snail’s pace. It took 50 minutes before our first course was served. Another 45 minutes of being done eating before the main. We left when dessert finally arrived but missed nothing. The pies left everything wanting. The views are stunning though. I️m not anti this restaurant. I️ just want you to know what to expect for special events - molasses slow service, meh food, but views that make it all worthwhile.
Went for Thanksgiving dinner and had one of the worst dining experiences. It was my first time there and I had heard great reviews first hand so I was looking forward to it. Took 45 mins to get our drinks after we sat down. Had to ask for water multiple times throughout the meal. Steak was raw when I asked for medium. Au Grautin Potatoes were grossly undercooked and had the consistency of apples. When we asked for another serving, the second batch was even more undercooked and they didnt offer another side even though none of us even touched the second serving. We ended up talking to the kitchen manager and he took care of our drinks, but after all was said and done we had spent 3 hours there waiting for sub-par food. I would only go back for the sunset and drinks, since it’s hard to mess those up.
