JRDN Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
First of all, the hostess was very friendly, respectful and competent; when multiple parties entered almost simultaneously she handled it with fairness and grace. Our waiter was patient and gave good recommendations. The patio flanked the boardwalk and we enjoyed the ocean air and view. Great harmonious ambience. Delicious short rib tacos! And good draft beer!
The view at JRDN is amazing and always feels special. I tend to order the same meal for brunch on the weekend, which is the lobster BLT. It is amazing with the hint of tarragon in the light dressing. Although the fries are great here, the salad is a night sub for no additional expense.
My only complaint is the server was spread a bit thin with the tables, and wasn't always on point with new customers coming in (including me and others, as I could see their frustration) or drink refills/orders. Still definitely worth the visit and no worries once you take a look at the ocean from your table.
My food was good but not great it was poached eggs over smoked salmon and potato hash, sounds great but it was a bit dry and like it needed a side of bread or something to complete the dish. That’s why I gave it 4 stars. And that’s only my dish , I haven’t ordered other stuff to really tell. Other than that everything was awesome atmosphere is impeccable.
We enjoyed a great dinner in a lovely setting looking out on the beach. The salads were especially nice as we each selected what we wanted on our salads from a good list of options. Our entrees were very well prepared and the service was very good. We will definitely return!
I was very disappointed. We were celebrating my birthday and I’ve been here twice before with family and it was always great but this time it was my friends and I but we were treated like little children. The server was horrible. Didn’t refill our glasses, never was around, etc. I won’t be coming back I was very offended.
Beautiful restaurant right on the water, great service, all the way around. From the valet to the server. All the food I ate was excellent and I had a flat iron steak, a potato puree and veggies. Plus the cheese plate and octopus for appetizers! Two people had steaks that were a little stringy. Enjoy this is a lovely place!
I made reservations the night before. Upon arrival, the hostess was sitting another party. When she checked us in, we sat at the bar. After sitting there for a good two minutes, we were never asked if we wanted a drink. Thumbs down with the bar. The hostess then tapped me on the shoulder that our table was ready. We sat in the patio where it was quieter than being inside. Our waiter was nice guy and very attentive all throughout our dinner. Very helpful with the menu. We shared a ribeye which was delicious. As for beverages, cocktails and wine...very good. We would come here again.
Menu was all over the place. Weird combinations and can't say we were thrilled with the food. Loved the location, the view, gorgeous sunset and a nice outdoor seating environment. Staff was friendly and helpful. Would come back for appetizers and a drink but not for dinner
Fun and casual place to dine. Right at the pier so a walk after dining on a clear San Diego day, is a must. Parking on the street is rare so prepare to valet park (free for 2 hours with a validation). Shrimp and grits are a really good dish along with the rib bash.
Our server was very helpful in making recommendations and checking for us on dietary restrictions (dairy sensitivity). The food was beyond delicious, prepared perfectly. And we were on the patio, so we could watch the sunset as we sipped cocktails. A perfect evening.
This was our second visit to JRDN after first discovering it on a trip to Pacific Beach about a year ago. In our first visit, we had been allowed to wait for an outside table, had a great view of the Pacific, an attentive and friendly server, great food, and a great experience. On this visit, we weren't able to be seated outside, so we were seated in what felt like an overflow room with several large parties, and frequently had to wait lengthy periods between "check ins" by our somewhat dismissive server. The food was good, my wife's filet perfectly cooked and tender and my whole Rockfish was uniquely prepared and well presented. Still, this experience felt more like an overpriced Bonefish grill and less like the prime restaurant on the beach we'd experienced before.
We rented a house on the ocean and had our children and grandchildren join us. We had a lovely meal at JRDN. The food and service was great. Since we were out of town we had to take 2 little ones for dinner. It was clear that JRDN is a restaurant for adult but they were gracious
To include the grandchildren. We all had a good time. Everything was lovely.
My husband and I went to JRDN for the last night of our honeymoon. What a terrible way to end such a nice vacation. There were only a few items even available on the menu due to it being a holiday Monday (is that even a valid excuse?), which was the first problem. I ordered the salmon and it was tasteless, the carrots were rock hard, I'm pretty sure there was supposed to be fingerling potatoes but I only saw two tiny pieces and there was some sort of red sludge on the plate (I can't recall what the menu said this was, and it was so dark on the patio that I couldn't see). This was the worst $28 I have ever spent on a meal. Even the decor was subpar. The tables and chairs were made of cheap plastic, not level at all. Horrible concept for the menus. It's some sort of plastic binder that won't stay open while you're trying to browse options. I'm not sure why so many have given it stellar reviews - maybe just for the view? Perhaps we went on an off night, but overall, we are extremely disappointed.
Our simple breakfast order took over an hour to produce. And even then, an entire meal was overlooked. Staff comped the bill, and was (eventually) reactive and considerate. But for the first 45-minutes we were essentially ignored with no interim substance. But it was a painful experience and caused traffic complications as a result.
Where do I begin... For a restaurant overlooking the ocean the seafood was pretty inedible. We sat outside and could barely hear ourselves over the club-like atmosphere next door. The decor was choppy and cheap looking. My husband's wine tasted corked and old. It took over 30 minutes for us to get three "raw" dishes: shrimp cocktail, oysters and crab legs. The oysters were from North Carolina which doesn't make any sense since there are most likely local or at least west coast oysters that would be a much better option. The shrimp were almost a brown color and looked like they had been cooked three days prior. We didn't even eat them. The house made bread was bland and literally tasted like a sponge with butter on it.
The server was nice but didn't know anything about the menu and kept telling us they were plating our food but it still took forever to come out. It was the worst $100 I've ever spent on food and would not recommend it to anyone. If you want to see the ocean, skip the food and just walk down to the beach.
The menu at JRDN's offers diverse opportunities to test the chef and the kitchen uniformly does a fine job. My two favorite items are the lobster bacon lettuce and tomato sandwich, with a fresh salad; plus the brunch eggs Benedict. The setting right at the boardwalk makes JRDN's a fun place to people watch as well as to catch sight of the surfers.
