This was the third time I’ve been here, first time was at this location and second time at The Highlands one. My first experience was really good and this time was not so much. My husband and I ordered pork buns and the Taiwanese sausage roll for appetizers, and the Sizzling Beef, pork Mushu with a side of Lo Mein, and Cantonese roast duck for entrees. The appetizers had good flavor and were pretty fair-priced. The Sizzling Beef tasted great, but for $17, had horrible portions, mainly, with the meat. It was maybe worth $12. The pork Mushu tasted good, but again, pretty limited on the meat. There was plenty of cabbage in it, which I could tell is also used as a filler. The Lo Mein was good, but a tad too oily to me. The Cantonese roast duck tasted great, but I feel also overpriced. I understand duck is pretty rare, but this was probably a quarter of a whole duck. So, basically, the food tastes really good, but you don’t get the “bang for your buck.”
Went for a late date night v-day after the evening rush after 8pm. Got seated quickly and drinks came fast. Apps were really good. Entree (Beijing duck) was fabulous! Actually, all the food was delicious and presentation was well done.
Would probably return again with the kids.
Terrible service. Only one server!!!
Cold air every time door opened. Need two door atrium to buffer cold air
Once again I weathered going to joy luck due to open table points and again was disappointed. Every time we go there we get cold soup. We asked the waitress for hot soup and 10 minutes later got hot soup. The explanation, “the soup well where they keep it warm is not working”. So it must have not been working for months now since the last I visited it was the same excuse. To make matters worse the food was just warm and there were not many people in the restaurant. The table next to us got cold soup as well.
Went for lunch. Great menu specials, excellent service. Will be back.
Excellent service and food!
Loved our private room in the back for our party of 10! Food and service were perfect as usual. One of our favorites!
Nice people. Expected more creative dishes. Food ok but not extraordinary. Priced right for what we ate.
First of all, service was great!! Drinks were fantastic. Food was great!
First time here. I expected a better atmosphere. Food was ok. I had fish and requested not breaded but it came breaded. My husband had duck which he said was really good. Not a do-again for me. Just ok.
Great service and a quiet relaxed atmosphere.
I’ve eaten at Joy Luck several times at both locations. The last couple at this one, and it seems to be going down hill. The restaurant was mostly empty on a Saturday night at 6:30. I made a reservation and didn’t even need it with all the empty tables. The service was okay but I could tell they were short staffed. An empty table beside us had a cleaning bottle and rag on it during our entire meal. Not very appetizing! The food was just okay so we are not likely to return. Louisville just has way too many good restaurants to settle for “just okay”.
Highly recommend the Beijing Roast Duck and the Farmers Beef. My husband and I ordered each and shared them. Plenty to eat for both of us but also a little leftover to take home for lunch the next day. Also, shared the steamed pork dumplings...OMG! So delicious! Joshua, our server was fantastic!
Very good food. A but over priced but all in all it's worth it.
The chair backs were torture. The food was heaven!
The food was good yet for the price compared to other Asian style restaurants it struck me as high. At this price point plus an automatically applied 20% gratuity (due to party size), I expect finished plates to be cleared in a reasonable time. The main order should be taken before appetizers arrive not coinciding with apps so food does not sit on table in front of customers while waiter asks for main order from all. These are details yet details matter at this level.
Amazing food, service, will definitely be back!
Always the best meal and service at Joy Luck, our favorite go-to restaurant for our friends’ get together. Every dish we ordered was wonderful. Keep on with your high quality of food taste and presentation. You are outstanding.
We wanted "better than takeout" Asian food and that's exactly what we got - along with some nicely done cocktails. The menu is a great mix of well-known dishes and some signature specials (the ginger fish is really tasty). You can confidently order the "usual" dishes and see how much better they taste when done at a true dine-in Asian restaurant.
Not as good as usual. I fet kung pao beef and it didnt taste like it did all the other times i had it.
Interesting menu with tasty food that is not necessarily authentic (except for the pot stickers, which were very good).
Good flavors. Meal was rushed; in and out in one hour. Beverages, apps, soup, entrees. Each course came out too soon; not a relaxed meal flow. Get the Oriental Fashioned if you like an Old Fashioned.
Understaffed but food excellent as always
Food was delicious, drinks were great. Staff was pleasant. Plenty of food with each dish we ordered. We will be back!
Enjoyed our meal with out of town friends. Served in a timely manner and piping hot when needed. Enjoyed the tempura green beans especially
Have had inconsistent responses from waitresses on food allergens from waitress. Last visit has to ask for soup reheat, silverware, refills on drinks.
Cocktails are excellent but last visit only two tables occupied besides ours and took 10 min to get water and another 5 to get my old forester on the rocks and then had to ask for the rock.
Joy Luck never disappoints. Love the food, love the cocktails!
Was a little disappointed this time with my cashew chicken (meat seemed deep fried and oil was old)?and hated to see we were one of three tables on a Friday night @ 6:30. Still like this place as it is notches above different from the run of the mill Chinese restaurant and their craft cocktails are very good.
The lunch menu was reasonable and delicious. They have great vegetarian options!
We really want to like this restaurant!! The food is always amazing but feel the service can lack attention to detail.
Usually we can deal with this for a casual dinner. However, our last visit was with a bigger group and it was a special occasion. We made reservations for our group and asked to be put in the back. We confirmed this request over the phone, right before our dinner. When we arrived, we were told that another group took priority over our request. Because we had to be seated up front, we couldn’t really talk and and it took away from the enjoyment of the evening.
We would have also really appreciated more of an apology for being bumped, instead of a “take it-or-leave it” attitude.
We have a large weekly group and Joy Luck is always more than accommodating for us.
Always fast, friendly service and excellent food and drinks.
A lovely quiet place. I do like the pot luck, had the Mongolian. So tastey!
Food was decent with good pricing, but not memorable. Dish was supposed to be spicy, but had no heat to speak of. The menu could be made to be clearer.
Great food for the price
Food is plentiful with many options and good. Unfortunately the service we had left a little to be desired. I think our server was new, which is fine, but wasn't trained properly.
We had a reservation and our server is the one who greeted us. Unfortunately they either didn't hear or just did not understand... but set us up at a table for four when it was only two of us.
The drinks before dinner were very good but the two drinks we ordered were delivered several minutes apart.
The server was nice, but I don't believe had eaten out at a nice restaurant to know the polite basics of a server.
Finally, they delivered the wrong check to us... ugh!
Again, great food and we hope to return... with better service.
Our first time here and we were impressed. Delicious flavor...we had the Beijing duck and the steamed dumplings. Enjoy!
Went for Mother’s Day with large group. They were great and food was beautiful and delicious.
Excellent service. Had a party of nine, seated us in a very nice private area in back. Food was great. Very nice evening.
