Joy Luck - East End
The chair backs were torture. The food was heaven!
The food was good yet for the price compared to other Asian style restaurants it struck me as high. At this price point plus an automatically applied 20% gratuity (due to party size), I expect finished plates to be cleared in a reasonable time. The main order should be taken before appetizers arrive not coinciding with apps so food does not sit on table in front of customers while waiter asks for main order from all. These are details yet details matter at this level.
Amazing food, service, will definitely be back!
Always the best meal and service at Joy Luck, our favorite go-to restaurant for our friends’ get together. Every dish we ordered was wonderful. Keep on with your high quality of food taste and presentation. You are outstanding.
We wanted "better than takeout" Asian food and that's exactly what we got - along with some nicely done cocktails. The menu is a great mix of well-known dishes and some signature specials (the ginger fish is really tasty). You can confidently order the "usual" dishes and see how much better they taste when done at a true dine-in Asian restaurant.
Not as good as usual. I fet kung pao beef and it didnt taste like it did all the other times i had it.
Interesting menu with tasty food that is not necessarily authentic (except for the pot stickers, which were very good).
Good flavors. Meal was rushed; in and out in one hour. Beverages, apps, soup, entrees. Each course came out too soon; not a relaxed meal flow. Get the Oriental Fashioned if you like an Old Fashioned.
Understaffed but food excellent as always
Food was delicious, drinks were great. Staff was pleasant. Plenty of food with each dish we ordered. We will be back!
Enjoyed our meal with out of town friends. Served in a timely manner and piping hot when needed. Enjoyed the tempura green beans especially
Have had inconsistent responses from waitresses on food allergens from waitress. Last visit has to ask for soup reheat, silverware, refills on drinks.
Cocktails are excellent but last visit only two tables occupied besides ours and took 10 min to get water and another 5 to get my old forester on the rocks and then had to ask for the rock.
Joy Luck never disappoints. Love the food, love the cocktails!
Was a little disappointed this time with my cashew chicken (meat seemed deep fried and oil was old)?and hated to see we were one of three tables on a Friday night @ 6:30. Still like this place as it is notches above different from the run of the mill Chinese restaurant and their craft cocktails are very good.
The lunch menu was reasonable and delicious. They have great vegetarian options!
We really want to like this restaurant!! The food is always amazing but feel the service can lack attention to detail.
Usually we can deal with this for a casual dinner. However, our last visit was with a bigger group and it was a special occasion. We made reservations for our group and asked to be put in the back. We confirmed this request over the phone, right before our dinner. When we arrived, we were told that another group took priority over our request. Because we had to be seated up front, we couldn’t really talk and and it took away from the enjoyment of the evening.
We would have also really appreciated more of an apology for being bumped, instead of a “take it-or-leave it” attitude.
We have a large weekly group and Joy Luck is always more than accommodating for us.
Always fast, friendly service and excellent food and drinks.
A lovely quiet place. I do like the pot luck, had the Mongolian. So tastey!
Food was decent with good pricing, but not memorable. Dish was supposed to be spicy, but had no heat to speak of. The menu could be made to be clearer.
Great food for the price
Food is plentiful with many options and good. Unfortunately the service we had left a little to be desired. I think our server was new, which is fine, but wasn't trained properly.
We had a reservation and our server is the one who greeted us. Unfortunately they either didn't hear or just did not understand... but set us up at a table for four when it was only two of us.
The drinks before dinner were very good but the two drinks we ordered were delivered several minutes apart.
The server was nice, but I don't believe had eaten out at a nice restaurant to know the polite basics of a server.
Finally, they delivered the wrong check to us... ugh!
Again, great food and we hope to return... with better service.
Our first time here and we were impressed. Delicious flavor...we had the Beijing duck and the steamed dumplings. Enjoy!
Went for Mother’s Day with large group. They were great and food was beautiful and delicious.
Excellent service. Had a party of nine, seated us in a very nice private area in back. Food was great. Very nice evening.
Excellent as always!
My husband chose Joy Luck for his birthday dinner. It was way more casual than we expected, but that's not a slight on the restaurant. The food was fantastic. The service, however, was very slow. They did comp our appetizer though since it took so long to come out. I'd booked thru Open Table and said it was a birthday celebration for two people, so I was quite disappointed that they sat us right next to the door, and alongside a table of about 8 adults and lots of small children that ran around the table most of the evening. They don't have double doors there, so it was quite chilly when people went in and out. And people coming in with no reservations were seated in much better spots than we were. I won't go back. But I would order thru GrubHub as the food would be worth it.
Nice casual atmosphere; tasteful food with lots of options; service was timely, knowledgeable and effective.....but not overwhelming
We went to Joy Luck for Easter lunch. It was PERFECT! We had good conversation, and almost had the place to ourselves. Service was sufficient, but things didn’t seem to be made from scratch because I was unable to customize some items. We had a mix of vegans and omnivores and everyone was pleased! I specifically had the mushu and it was excellent. When I asked for additional wraps to go, they said they would have to charge me for it. Given the amount of money that we collectively spent, and the tip given, I would have appreciated this curtesy. But it was a small annoyance and not something that would keep me from coming back again. Definitely something for everyone - which is PERFECT when you have a mixed group of people.
No one came to our table for at least 15 minutes after we were seated. The waitress took our drink and food order and our food came to the table within 5 minutes and it was warm not hot. The drinks arrived about 25 minutes after our food. I will not go back!
Good, as always. Can count on easy entry from a friendly face.
We will definitely return trip to this restaurant:)
Excellent food. Great cocktails. Duck is off the charts good and try the Asian old fashioned...you can’t have just one
Food was great, as always. Server did not write our order down. Came back after we ordered to confirm our order and still forgot a few things. Then when we were ready to get our checks, he had to come back AGAIN and ask us what we had. Just write it down, much simpler. Will go back, it was just annoying.
Was not to my expectation, portions were too small. Food did not taste as good or was not authentic
The food was fresh and wonderful!
A group of 9 friends got together to celebrate 2 birthdays. The restaurant was a little short staffed but they quickly resolved the issue. The owner became our server and she was a lot of fun! The food was great and portion size perfect. We were lucky to have the private dining room for our get together. I recommend Joy Luck!
Reminded us of a Highlands restaurant than an easy end location.
At first, the menu seemed limited. However, it only appears that way. Many options including gluten free.
Portions were large, fresh, and very tasty. Two of us had the duck, which was cooked perfectly.
Very good food and great service keeps us coming back.
Could use better ventilation for table side cooking
