Very imaginative food. Standards with a unique twist. Very nice presentation. Setting is quite nice, and outdoor ambience would be perfect if not for the nearby road. But the road noise turned out not to be much of a problem. The indoor seating, spread among several rooms is a wonderful old home, seemed to be quiet.
Everytime I go I have great food and great atmosphere.
Josephine's is a Wine Spectator Award of Excellence winner and it shows. Cocktails were well made, the wine list was ample and interesting yet reasonably priced and the food was visually appealing and bursting with flavor. I highly recommend the gnocchi (my son had that) and the Diablo Macaroni and Cheese with Shrimp (my dinner). The desserts were a little bit of a let down, but all in all, this was a great way to spend a pleasant evening dining in Flagstaff's cool pines. This was as good as anyplace I've eaten in Phoenix, Tucson, Los Angeles, San Francisco or Seattle.
Historic house turned into a restaurant. Food was fresh and top quality. Our waitress was very personable and freindly. Offered suggestions for things to do in Flagstaff. Hope to visit this restaurant again!!
Josephine's is one of our most favorite restaurants in Flagstaff. They never fail to provide great atmosphere as well as fabulous and unique cusine. We always go to Josephine's for special occasions, knowing that they will provide us with a great dining experience.
Whenever in Flagg I always make it a point to go to Josephines. Outstanding food, great wine and just love the old house and how it still fits right into the neighborhood without attracting attention.
One waiter offered a good description of the menu, and another helped us select the right wine for our meal. The food was delicious with nice presentation. Very friendly and casual dining. We'll wear jeans next time.
We picked this restaurant out of the blue. We so enjoyed the dining room experience, we will be going back.
Food and Patron margarita was yummy! outstanding...
Overall the food was in an average place, no surprise. I had pork osso buck, was good but with too heavy cream sauce, my husband had stripe, the meat was bit of over cooked.
What an unbelievable find in Flagstaff, AZ. We were celebrating a very special evening and the food and service were extraordinary!
Initial impression was excellent. Appears one server for the entire restaurant was a bit too much, and the service was slow and forgetful..bread arrived late, glass of wine never arrived at all, and it took over two hours to prepare and serve the meal..The sea bass was well prepared, if not just a bit over cooked..the chicken however was barely edible. It was dry and salty beyond belief!
The food was so good! If I could afford it I would eat here until I have had everything on the menu! It was expensive but worth every cent.
Second time there. We will go there for dinner evey time we are in Flaggstaff.
The food was delicious. The restaurant has great ambiance in an old cottage style house.
My wife and I were travelling back from Grand Canyon. We had picked this restaurant based on online reviews. We were not disappointed. The food was delicious and the service was great. A wonderful place.
Food was just so-so, especially for the price. You are better off going to one of the brew pubs and save your money. I'm a bit of a foodie, so this was disappointing given all the rave reviews by others. The waitress was very kind, however, she was running around because they were short staffed. At times I felt like she was throwing things at us, so she could get to the next table, which certainly didn't make it a relaxing evening. When they served our red wine, they poured it into goblets straight from the dishwasher. A hot glass of wine isn't something anyone would enjoy.
We had another very good experience at Josephines in Flagstaff.
Very disappointed with this place. Went for my mother-in-laws birthday and was so disappointed with the food and service. This is definitely not a restaurant for foodies. My husband and I went to Napa and love food. My salad came with no dresssing on it. I hoped thinks would get better, but not so. Their mole merely tastes like coffee, missing that key smoky chipotle flavor. My husbands gnocchi was burnt and said his dish seemed more like an appetizer. 3 out of 4 dishes were not enjoyable. This food was mediocre at best. Even the best dish was like a very good dish from cheesecake factory or applebees. Nothing special. Save your money and go for cheaper. Plus, these restaurants usually do something for someone's birthday. Josephines forgot
We got the best table in the house for our special occasion. The service was fantastic waiter and the food was excellent!
We've been seasonal residents of Flagstaff for ten years and have driven past Josephine's many times. We didn't consider it because we thought it was one of those pretentious restaurants - you know, the ones that list menu prices as single- or double-digit numbers without the dollar sign. But we looked at the menu on line and it seemed reasonable. So we decided to go there for my birthday and also to check it out for friends who are coming in August and like to try a city's eateries. Josephine's is located in an historic old private home and thus has several rooms, including three upstairs that are suitable for groups of varying sizes, perfect for bridal shower luncheons, after-rehearsal dinners, or just friends getting together.
An excellent nouveau American with French and Southwestern influences. Located in a charming cottage setting with abundant outdoor seating, this is arguably Flagstaff's finest restaurant. The wine list is small by 5-star restaurant standards, but includes a number of excellent selections at very reasonable prices. The service was excellent,
Josephines is a great place for special occasions. My boyfriend and I have been twice, and we always have a great dinner. The food is amazing and the wine list is pretty extensive. This time we sat outside on the deck, I have to say I enjoyed it even more this time.
This is a charming restaurant in an historic home. The menu is varied enough for any lover of well prepared locally grown food. The staff members are all helpful, knowledgeable about the menu offerings as well as the area of Flagstaff. I would advise anyone who lives or travels through Flagstaff, Arizona to plan to eat at Josephines.
Food was delicious. Service was even better. Great way to spend my birthday.
Excellent food. A bit pricy, but well worth it. The noise level was a bit to loud for normal coversation and could do with some noise reduction techniques.
Just a plain nice quiet spot for dinner when one is dining alone
We had a nice, relaxing dinner in this quaint, historic home. The meal was pricey but delicious with a beautiful presentation.
Less impressive than on earlier visits. Pork was tasty but tough; however the fillet mignon was delicious. And the capuccino was lovely.
Pleasant outdoor views and really good organic fresh food.
Josephines is a wonderful little restaurant! The food was very good, our waiter, Fritz, was very attentive and we never felt rushed.
Ambiance outside on porch marred by propane tanks lined against the wall. Otherwise, a great place to dine outside
A little expensive for the quality and qantity of food....service was not what I expected for this type of restaurant....
Dinner was great! It was very busy...good for them...but the noise level made it difficult
to carry on a conversation. Nonetheless, it was a good experience and we will make a return visit.
Great experience all round. Wonderful dinner for our special occasion!
The food was awful and the service...well, the staff consisted of students that had already checked-out on summer break. I am surprised there are such great reviews for this place and it is quite frightening that this is considered fine dining in Flagstaff.
I ordered the Diablo Mac n Cheese...Imagine boxed Mac N Cheese with some shrimp and huge chunks sun dried tomatoes thrown on top. This was nearly inedible. NY Striploin - the cut was ok but all the accompaniments were awful. I've never seen vegetables quite like this...It was if they reheated leftover veggies cooked the day before. I wonder if they just reused unused portions (seriously).
We had a wonderful dining experience for our anniversary at Josephine's. Everything was excellent including the delicious food, service and ambiance. We drove specifically from Tucson to Flagstaff to have our anniversary dinner at Josephine's.
Most disappointing experience of our trip. My wife graduated from NAU and we chose an expensive restaurant for this special occasion. was exceptionally poor with constant subtle reminders from staff that we were not really welcome. To our dismay, the food was every bit as disappointing as the service. Bland soups and entrees helped round out this sad little effort from Josephine's. We will not return.
delicious food, attentive, friendly and professional wait staff, charming atmosphere in historic home - wholeheartedly recommend this restaurant!
A wonderful experience! We frequent this restaurant and when my brother came to town (a hard-core foodie) we took he and his wife to Josephine's. They were both delighted. My brother commented that we were lucky to have such a place to visit and that he could not do better back in restaurant-rich Rhode Island. Keep it up!
Specifics: My brother, who has lived in Alaska and the Northeast (Rhode Island) is a seafood fan. We started with crab cakes, one of my favs here, and he echoed my sentiments that these are slightly non-traditional, i.e. a southwesten hint, but still maintain the thrust of what a crab cake should be, crunchy, tasting of crab rather than bread crumbs, etc.
And they have wonderful pork mole!
