A charming place that makes you feel like you are in a small town in Spain instead of Capitol Hill. Perfectly cozy and great service with outstanding food!
The food was great but the service was terrible. We were a table for 2. A large table was seated right after us. The server was clearly more interested in serving the large party than us. It got so bad that he turned away in the middle of explaining the menu to us and walked over to the other table to supervise food delivery and then came back and picked up where he had left off without even an apology. He didn’t bother to ask us if we wanted desserts. Demonstrated a sour attitude through out the meal. I should have called the manager right at the beginning, when it was very clear that he was not interested at all in serving us. But I didn’t. Bad attitude and terrible service. Contradicts everything this restaurant supposedly stands for.
Such cold food that was supposed to be served hot.... very small tapas portions too
What a find! Thank you Tom Sietsma for your recommendation. The food is outstanding, you're not limited to tiny plates (size options available for all selections, and the noise level is refreshingly quiet! We'll be back
We always enjoy our meals here and we visit often.
Really great food and good for small groups!
Amazing service and food.
Very disappointing. Not as described. Worst NYE celebration and poor service . Very dull and choice of food for the pre fixed menu was mediocre .
My partner and I love Joselito and have shared many meals here - both brunch and dinner - with each other and with visiting friends and family. When we made a reservation on OpenTable for NYE, we did not know that the evening was a special event with a six-course prix fixe menu. When we explained our predicament to the staff, the manager was extremely accommodating and offered us items from the regular menu. We had a fantastic evening with incredible food and wine, and it was a lovely way to close out the year.
Worst NYE dinner ever-terrible service, terrible food. The server didn't know what one of the dishes was and lied and said it was beef. Luckily we looked it up and found out it was a type of fish. The food - a bowl of mushroom soup, a main course of fish or lamb, and a chocolate mouse with marshmallows (!) - had no seasoning and was all overcooked. The fixed price of $80 with wine pairing was not justified.
Ok food with lousy service. Took forever to be waited on, even with a largely empty dining room. They clearly forgot about one of our friends orders until we reminded them, and then brought it out cold. The food was ok, but with lousy service and better options for Spanish food in DC (i.e. Jaleo), we will not be returning.
The food was outstanding we had the Bavette de Wagyu, Grilled Iberian pork shoulder, and the Maryland crab basque toast. Our server was excellent too.
My new favourite neighborhood place! Everything is good. My favourite is the tuna crudo. The sky cod fritters melt in your mouth. Great and friendly service. Wonderful ambiance.
It was a truly spectacular meal.
It's a great family owned local spot. The food and the service always great. And it has a great wine list with knowledgeable picks from the waiter.
The welcome was warm, the service exceptional and the food delightful. The server was very knowledgeable about the Spanish food offerings and of tremendous help in matching tastes to dishes. We left completely satisfied and looking forward to the next visit.
Very creative menu and delicious dishes. Intimate and relatively quiet, with excellent service and a nice wine and beverage list. Menu is over- balances towards sea food and pork dishes. Vegetarian dishes tend to be on the skimpy side
Superb food and excellent staff!
A friend and I had the 2-course lunch special. The first course was lentil stew or salad. I opted for the salad, but sent it back. The tomatoes and mangoes weren't ripe. The waiter brought me the lentil stew, which was very good. My friend also had the lentil stew, but hers didn't have any sausage. Her main course was 5 vegetables and she liked it. I had monkfish, which was excellent. We finished with espresso.
The food is always great at Joselito’s.
On this occasion we were late for the Folger’s concert and wanted to eat in a hurry.
Our server was fabulous. She got our meal going in no time. Was helpful and friendly.
We enjoyed our meal and made it to the Folger’s with a few minutes to spare.
The food was excellent, as was the service. My family raved the entire meal.
The food was outstanding. Our table of 3 had shared plates and it did not disappoint. I had the Basque Crab Toast and Monkfish. Both were small-medium portions but satisfying. Both soups were good but one was too clear and brothy. The wine choice is excellent but the prices are cheaper at SER in Arlington (their sister restaurant). Dessert was so-so: my bread pudding was dry and the flan was good.
Their tables are extra small. I'm not sure why you would encourage someone to order multiple dishes when there is no room at the table.
I like how Joselito brings some class to Capitol Hill. It's appointed well despite the small marble tables and has options for all dishes. Although most residents of the Hill think that they're classy, they'll shovel any high priced food and declare it 5-star (cough, cough - there's no such thing as 5-star). Joselito is alluring and has great food.
need more vegetarian tapas. How about garbanzos con espinacas. Also bowls of olives, like in Sevilla.
Great food. Great wine. Amazing service!
Joselito continues to keep its food consistently outstanding. I have had the duck multiple times and it is always excellent. The roasted eggplant was delicious as was the salad of shrimp, mussels, and other seafood.
Excellent food and ambiance. Unlike previous visits, the service was poor. A long wait to order and to receive water and bread.
Sat at bar , great selection , food, service . Reminded me of Barcelona .
Wonderful experience on all levels. Try this wonderful restaurant.
Wonderful! Second time visiting Joselitos and both times were delightful. I sat at the bar the first time. Bartender was very friendly and engaging. The gin cocktail was delicious! Second time came for the tasting menu with wine pairing. The pairings were perfect, from the sherry aperitif to the rioja with the beef. The crudo starter was light, citrusy, and playful. I am not a fan of fois gras generally but I ate three crackers worth. The zucchini soup was crazy good! Monkfish and wagyu beef were done perfectly. The dessert, strawberries with white chocolate soup, was really good so save room toward the end (maybe have 1 or 2 fois gras crackers). A wonderful addition to Eastern Market!
Great food at reasonable prices
This is a real hidden gem in the Capitol Hill / Eastern Market area during lunch time! The service and food are excellent. Foodies will love this place. Don't walk past it, as it's quite easy to miss. One of the absolutely best places in the neighborhood.
Food is quite good. Wine list includes several sherry options, though they were out of the Oloroso last night. Service is generally fine and friendly, though our waiter brought food we didn't order (he apologized and took it back).
Another fabulous meal at Joselito. We began with the tried and true nutty Iberian jamon, which never disappoints. The tuna crudo with avocado mousse and pineapple ginger sorbet was an exquisite flavor combination. The cod fritters with honey alioli were delicious, as were the stewed clams—keep some bread to mop up every last drop of the stew. The penne and chorizo is a must have. And the the pork shoulder was to die for. All with a perfectly balanced Spanish red recommended by the owner. Service was spot on. We’ll be back soon.
Was treated to a birthday lunch and really enjoyed this place. Never noticed it although I drive by fairly frequently. With it’s European ambiance you’ll think you’re in another country. Service was a bit slow but improved as we chatted with the waiter. Great place for a casual brunch/ lunch on the weekend if you don’t get to this part of town often.
Very nice small restaurant. Conversation was easy, wait staff very pleasant and attentive.
Great service and delicious food. Will be back!
The food, as always, was as creative and as delicious as ever. We've eaten there on seven occasions since we've moved into the neighborhood, and have also found the service to be top-grade,
And, the platter of duck and risotto was marvelous both in taste and presentation.
Food was good, not great. Service was excellent. We had a group of 10 and we had fun, the food just didn’t wow us.
Meh. Very average food and service. Nothing to write home about. Union Market is so much better.
