Valentine’s Day

Date night, we had a nice night.

Back to Jonathan's after a hiatus of many months (I used to work across the street - and it was a great spot - even a habit) to a nice lunch of outstanding Gumbo and Shrimp Tacos. I forgot to substitute sauteed spinach or cauliflower florets for the french fries to reduce my carbohydrate load, but my fault, not the restaurant's. Prompt unobtrusive service, sizable portions (no one goes hungry at Jonathan's - a holdover from his years designing menus for Offshore oil platforms perhaps), and congenial ambiance.

P.S. My colleague ordered an appetizer of crab cakes and I was treated to one- outstanding!

Every time we come the food and service are exceptional. Not sure if it was an off night, but the server had AirPods in and a few times didn’t hear us correctly when we ordered. It seemed a little strange that she was wearing headphones while taking orders.

Good food....service by committee=no accountability.
Got the salad order wrong....got.the chicken fried steak order wrong...small mistakes....wrong dressing
And gravey on the side (not)....mistakes a 5 star would never allow.
My steak was perfect and the mussel app was great. Probably won't go back...too many other great choices at this price point in Houston.

JTR’s menu has a large variety of food selections that provides multiple choices. The food quality was outstanding and the food proportions were generous. The service was excellent. This is a hidden gem tucked away in a neighborhood which enhances the dining experience.

Colleague had lobster tacos that required fork/knife to eat due to large amounts of meat.

Best food in Houston! Our favorite!

The food and service here are always outstanding. Everything you order is always flavorful and delicious. You can't go wrong with any of their seafood items. The portions are big so you can definitely share a plate and totally be satisfied.

I always enjoy dining at Jonathan’s. They do a wonderful job with quality food prepared and served right. Tonight I was in the mood for Cioppino which satisfied my urge.

Was expecting the menu I reviewed online but was for the new Jonathan’s at memorial green. Poor job of outlining the differences between the two on line. Ordered chicken fried steak was overly greasy. Like small pools of grease on top of the steak. Disappointed

The food & service could not have been better. Our server was friendly, helpful & attentive.
We took our leftovers home because we wanted to enjoy our delicious food one more time.
Side note:
Our reservation was for 8:00 pm for outdoor seating but we couldn’t get our table until almost 8:20 pm since the people at the table would not leave. Not the fault of Jonathan’s staff but felt that someone needs to make notice to the people who are just sitting and visiting while people wait.

An old standby for casual get togethers. Bring your own wine for a minimal corkage fee. Comfortable but casual seating area. Food is better than average and for a decent value. Service is outstanding but not bothersome.

After staying away for too long, we had a corner table for four outside. The servers all introduced themselves to us, as a team. Bottles were opened, drinks poured, orders taken - all timed impeccably. There are so many great things on the menu - it was difficult to choose. We all chose well and the food was superb.

Service was fair. Even with 2 servers, food did not come at the same time. Parmesan crusted pork tenderloin was not what I expected. Won’t order that again.

Food is great! American and Italian. Very consistent. Everything I have tried has been off the charts. Desert is not to be missed!

As always, everything was delicious. Topped off with the best coconut cream pie anywhere!

Food and service was wonderful as usual! We had a couple of parties of 10 sitting in the same room so the noise was a bit more than usual. The wait person asked if it was too loud and could move if desired. Specials of seafood were outstanding and the portions typical Texas size! Will go back!

Everything is great at this restaurant!!! We love the mussels, customer service!

Delicious food!

Had a lovely dinner on the patio. Crab cakes, meatballs Caesar salad, filet, chicken piccata and loaded mash. All were delicious. Service was good though we did wait about 10 minutes for someone to come collect our payment when we were finished with our meal. Otherwise a very positive dining experience.

Jonathon's has been one of my favorites for several years. It is still as good as it was the first time I went . Food is great and the service is wonderful Very friendly staff

Food was excellent. Service was awful. Next time will order and pick up as the car orders got better attention than we did.

Had a great dinner but with one exception. We each started out with a small salad - two house salads and one caesar. The salads were relatively larger than most "starter salads", and the lettuce and other vegetables were fresh. I had the Denver Roast, which is like a "pot roast". The beef was braised and fell off the bone, and had a wonderful flavor with small amount of carrots and onions. It was delicious. One person had the Chilean seabass broiled with panko breadcrumbs. It was a huge piece of seabass which was cooked perfectly. It was fresh and really tasty. The one dish we were a little disappointed with was the prime rib. We are use to prime rib served on the bone and roasted. This piece of meat was almost like a sirloin steak. It was grilled rather than roasted. It was flavorful but not what we had expected. We ended with a piece the coconut cream pie, which looked like it twas homemade and had a wonderful flavor.

We dined on the patio and were seated social distanced apart, the wait staff were very respectful of cleanliness and safety. We felt very comfortable. It was a wonder dinner and you won't be disappointed if you dine at this restaurant. We'll definitely return soon.

I’m very disappointed I recommend this restaurant to celebrated my friends bday, my friend chicken Was Frozen in the middle and til long to bring it back correctly ! My other friend’s Chicken Piccata was super salty, overall service was mediocre this time, they were super busy, no social distance !!!

Thankfully, this neighborhood favorite seems to have survived COVID.
We started with the crabcakes, which were delightful, and the pepper-crusted pork tenderloin was absolutely delicious. We finished with the snickers pie, which I would definitely order again. It was the best meal I've had in months!

The wait staff recommended the sea bass and I took their advice. It was amazing! I highly recommend it.

i'm always pleased to lunch at Jonathan's rub. it was a special treat to still have restaurant week there during our reservation. The food is always and consistently good! i've never had any problems during the many times i've dined there. it's a great place to bring clients as well as celebrate a special occasion. i recommend the sea bass or the chicken fried steak!

We have been there before and had good experiences, but this last visit was mostly disappointing. The food was a mixed bag and the service was poor. The team approach by the waiters resulted in nobody bringing our water or dessert until we asked.

Absolutely amazing! The food was excellent and the service was perfect!

Food was great. My only complaint is the atmosphere and cleanliness, very run down and dingy. The booth we sat in had stains on it and my tea glass had a lot of mineral build up on it.

Went to celebrate 2 birthdays. Wrote in reservation note and mentioned before we were seated, they did nothing to acknowledge it. Waited 30 min after everyone else got their salads, to get my meatball appetizer...which was COLD in the middle. They do not serve any complimentary bread with entrees. The serving "teams" don't seem to communicate with each other. My bread pudding dessert was barely warm. And the tables were close together...no social distancing observed.
