My husband and I had a wonderful experience at The Jolly Onion. Our server was pleasant and attentive. We enjoyed the veiner schnitzel as it was very tender and the ham and cheese were an added bonus. We did, however, miss the beets that used to be placed on the table with the bread.
Enjoyed a delicious dinner. Service was fast and courteous. Will be back for sure.
They were understaffed and that was fine and understood, but literally everything we ordered: veal schnitzel, potato pancakes, Mac and cheese, chicken salad, black dirt burger; were all very bland and not flavorful at all, which is sad because my family of 7 enjoys coming to the Jolly Onion for dinner but the only food that was consistent from previous visits were the Bavarian pretzel and the buffalo wings. It will be sometime before we come back unfortunately.
Our dinner at Jolly Onion was outstanding from drinks to dessert? I highly recommend this restaurant!!
I will say to try the Jolly Onion, however, know what to expect. Our server, Elizabeth, was great. In fact, without her, this would have been a very disappointing experience. The food was mediocre. The Salmon was literally a small 3-ounce quarter-inch-thin piece of fish and way overcooked, and the Chicken Madeira was served with a watery mushroom brown sauce tasting like from a can. Our app, potato pancakes, were missing any fluffiness or flavor, paper-thin, way overcooked, and no taste of potato. It was clear to me that the culinary chef they re-opened with, was no longer there, and I mentioned this upon receiving our meals. You may want to stick with the basics when dining here. I did try their whiskey special of the day, and this was satisfactory.
French onion soup and red cabbage side were both excellent. Service was a little slow but that may be due to being short-staffed. Loved to see an energetic crowd of faithful customers fill the restaurant with chatter like the days before the pandemic.
Excellent food and service! Nice ambience, had a wonderful evening.
Everything was very good! We would definitely go back again.
Great food and atmosphere! Fun trivia night too! Recommend!
Great Fathers Day Dinner!
Birthday Great food and great service
Great experience! Had a family dinner there, they were able to accommodate our large group at the last minute.
The food is very good!
Prompt service & a friendly staff!
Definitely would go back again!
Send my work team and they absolutely loved their entire experience! We’ll be back
This place was absolutely outstanding, from the appetizers to the entrees and they even nailed it with desserts. Ask for lizzy, super sweet and very attentive. It’s been a long time since I could say I had an amazing experience at a restaurant! Hands down 5 stars !
Although the onion rings are still fine, food was lackluster this visit. Service was also spotty.
Old fashioned decor but the food was amazing. Best wings in Orange County. Lizzy our server was the absolute best. So charming, funny and attentive. Excellent beer selection and everything we ate was absolutely delicious. Portions are huge so we took some home. Definitely making this a regular stop.
Had a great lunch. There was plenty of room so we didn't feel crowded next to others.
We always love the this place. No matter what the occasion or if it’s just a night out. The food is always on point and we are never disappointed.
We stopped for dinner on our way home! Had drinks ans burgers. Burgers were awesome, booze was pricey but tasty! One of my favorite new go-to places!
Food and Service was Excellent!
Would definitely return!
We've been there before and this time was a disappointment. The lamb was extremely fatty (50%) and the meals took very long to get to our table.
After all of the social limitations that we have all recently faced, it was so great to see friends to have such a delicious meal while sitting in this lovely patio. I just love the German inspired dishes complimenting their general cuisine. It’s over an hours drive North for me, however worth the lovely trip.
We had the Onion soup (best by far in Warwick area). Potato Pancakes & Amsterdam Authentic Bitterballen
mini croquettes filled with a homemade sirloin bechamel filling as appetizers. The Prime Rib sandwich, which was melt in your mouth perfection. Authentic Swedish meatballs also excellent. The entire experience was reminiscent of the original Jolly Onion restaurant of decades ago! 😀
The Jolly Onion had a warm welcoming atmosphere and the food is delicious.
Food is always good but on Sunday Lobster bisque soup was exceptional compliments to the chef.
Great food. Huge portions. Would recommend.
Very enjoyable! Husband, mom, and sisters also enjoyed!
Great Place, with great food and a nice beer list.
We will be back!
Friendly and attentive staff, country chic décor and superb food.
We started with the German pretzel and wings. Totally worth it. Dipping sauces were mild as to not overpower the pretzel. We got the wings mild too so as not to burn out our palates for what lie ahead.
Next up we had the classic strip steak and the black forest veal cutlet. Washed down with weissbier and Doc's cranberry apple cider.
We closed it out by sharing a NY Cheesecake. Dense and sweet with a caramel drizzle. Everything was truly outstanding.
Everything about the place was outstanding. The food, ambience, service, parking was a breeze. We love it
Food and service excellent . Always enjoy the drinks on their special menu.
Jolly Onion is a favorite of my girlfriend and I, the first visit was for her birthday in September, this time was for a date night. We live in NYC and it’s worth the hour and half drive. The food was delish as always however this time our giant pretzels were slightly burnt and over salted. The socially distanced dining was enjoyable, didn’t feel crowded. Overall I would recommend and the drinks are good as well.
Great food with even better service.
Food was ok
Despite many tables, we were placed by the kitchen so the noise hindered the evening from the start.
Waitress was great but food was bland, lacked taste and we won’t be returning.
Onion soups lacked flavor and lacked in cheese.
Daughters burger was cooked to well done instead of medium rare as requested. Beef patty was thin and looked like it was bought from a store.
Wife’s pierogis were cold coming out of the kitchen and didn’t have much taste of anything inside of them and her wedge salad came with a sauce that was more like a orange thick yoghurt instead of a blue cheese dressing.
My cut of steak was great but cooked to medium well when ordered rare.
We didn’t send any of the food back because table next to us did and faced attitude from the hostess and their food took another 30mins.
Dishes were just bland and it was clear things were rushed with no care.
Have been in the past to mixed experiences and we want to help small businesses as much as possible. This was a horrible experience though and the chef needs some help in a serious way.
Won’t be returning.
We were in the mood for a casual night out, and with few crowds. This was perfect - the room we were put in was almost empty so we felt safe. Our waitress was very friendly and attentive.
Haven’t been there in many years -Enjoyed food , service excellent. I would recommend.
In the middle of the ancient inland sea that is now the Pine Island Black Dirt onion country is the Jolly Onion. The authentic German fare was truly very good. Schnitzel and spaetzle with red cabbage..... perfect and the menu has American food too. The wait staff was attentive and the tables were spaced for social distancing. Overall it was a great evening.
My fiancé and I live close but have never been. This will be our new go to for date night! Loved everything from start to finish. I highly recommend the smoke special!
