The Jager Schnitzel was delicious and the apple strudel was the best we have ever tasted.
Nice new outdoor seating! Great drink specials, attentive wait staff!
Great food and service,
We had a great dinner at the Jolly Onion. Service was attentive and cheerful and the food was delicious (huge portions). Surprisingly reasonable, considering the high quality.
Food and service were great! We were seated immediately. There was live music when we were there and the preformer was very considerate about the volume. Tables in the bar area were quite close, but it was a fun evening
This was our first visit since the reopening of the restaurant, and it was a great experience! The decor has been spruced up, and they allow you to feel like you are in an intimate setting, even with many people in the dining room. We were seated promptly, given a chance to review the menu, and then we placed our order. Appetizers of the German pretzel and the cheese board, entrees of Jaegerschnitzel and Cordon Bleu, desserts of Cheesecake and Black Forest Cake. The bread served was delicious, and the portions were quite generous and faster wonderful. Already planning our return!
Warwick has many "fine" restaurants with City-quality food. This is not one of those, but it IS fantastic. Sort of an "institution" here, a family-style place with wood panelling and incredible Scandinavian comfort food. It's like eating at your Polish-American friend's house who's Mom is an amazing cook...with 1970's look decor, to boot! It's as kitchy as kitchy gets! Great bar and selection...you will NOT leave hungry. (Swedish meatballs and perogis to DIE for!)
First time back since reopening, disappointed, herding couples to a dingy back wall while dining area virtually empty! Don’t believe the pics on line, dark and dreary. Old painted damaged base board heat. The staff was friendly, inexperience showed, took 1/2 hr for appetizer. Ordered beef Med, got dark red center, Traveled 25 min . Not again!
Sam was a wonderful waitress!
We love the Jolly Onion but sometimes the food is a bit bland and the atmosphere is a bit loud.
This is a cozy spot for excellent German-based food with fantastic beers (although I am not a beer drinker), very friendly service (with the exception of Steve at the desk who for some reason did not want to seat us in main dining room even though it was empty except for one table. We had a reservation but he just said “I have too many reservations coming in”. I insisted because I did not want to sit on a hard piece of wood in the bar area, and lo and behold at 5:30 when we left only one other table had been filled.), and great homemade desserts. Try potato pancakes, jaeger Schnitzle & strudel.
Service was excellent however one of the five entrees at our table was disappointing. The Farmers platter featured excellent smoked sausage, good pierogies and bacon.....but both the mashed potatoes and sliced pork were dry and overcooked. Additionally it would be helpful if the restaurant had better lit signage by the road. Two of our guests drove by twice before locating it.
Excellent Thanksgiving dinner. Food was hot, delicious & plentiful. Service was attentive without being intrusive. Thankful they were open. Will be back to try their regular menu. Highly recommend.
I usually get a dish with home fries but they changed to roasted potatoes. Liked it better with sliced potatoes.
I’m a Chardonnay drinker, they only have one by the glass and it is not drinkable. Otherwise always an enjoyable experience and nice staff.
The tastiest of European flavors served by such a friendly staff that extended great service. I revisit more often if I want an hour away.
We expected a more German menu. Disappointed.
We had a very nice lunch visiting with old friends. The dining area was quiet for good conversation. Food was excellent and abundant..had nice left overs for the next day. Hope to go back soon.
Glad to have The Jolly Onion open again the food was great and portions big.
We sat in by the bar would have rather been in the dining area.
The Jager Schnitzel was over breaded
The bench in the bar was uncomfortable for dinner
Drinks are over priced
The greeter was very nice
Food was served very promptly
Sauerbraten should be everyday
We miss the old Jolly Onion
Currently living in North Carolina, we returned for the first time since our wedding reception at Jolly Onion Inn 43 years ago. Our waitress was outstanding, the food amazing. Finished with the best apple strudel! If there has to be a downside, it was very loud, tables close together and very busy! However we are so happy to see it open again, thriving, and maybe in 7 years we will have our 50th wedding anniversary there! Keep up the good work. Congratulations Pine Island for having this gem return!
Great food and service! Fairly pricey but good value for what you spend. We will be returning!
Wait staff was very attentive, greeted us and had us seated quickly. The owner came around to check on us which was a very nice touch. I had previously emailed the chef to inquire about accommodation for gluten allergies and received a prompt response that JO could accommodate with some of their dishes.
The salads were large and very delicious. The onion soup was also very good, and not overly salty.
It was reasonably busy Saturday night for our visit, the front dining room was full and a private party was being arranged in the back dining area.
All our meals were delicious with generous servings of meat. Chef Armand did a great job in accommodating gluten allergy by.preparing pork loin dish by swapping one side for another on the menu.
Overall a great experience, we will be back soon.
Menu was very limited. My husband wanted beef (none on the menu) and I don't eat beef or chicken . Not enough to choose from. We are use to getting salad with a meal and that was extra? I did have the Salmond it was a little to fishy tasting for me. Our daughter had French Onion soup and that was a little to sweet tasting. This was our second try and it wasn't appealing .
They need to put some carpets do n or noise dampening material or curtains because the mouse is awful
Inexperienced servers, took some time to get any attention or drinks or even water. Food was very good. It’s newly reopened so it should improve. Says business casual on their site but people were very dressed down in t-shirts and shorts
What a pleasant find. A cozy atmosphere with friendly service, and an unusual menu with German influences. Fantastic flat, crispy potato pancakes, delicious battered onion rings ( crisp but nkt greasy), the best onion soup we have ever had including in France, and save room for the real apple , strudel. Will definitely come back. Hearty but excellent food in comfortable surroundings .
The waitress was very attentive and quick with our drinks and ordering. The salad and appetizers were good. My son liked the salmon with real mashed potatoes. The room was a bit dark with dark wood tables and chairs.
As a Warwick resident I am glad that this restaurant was re-opened!! Great cocktails too!
Good service. Unfortunately the basic food I ordered needs improvement. The onion soup was burned, cheese top, & too much bread in it. The lobster was overcooked, chewy as steak. And the corn on the cob was very overcooked. For$ 140 for 4 people we were disappointed, altough we were excited to see it reopen.
I was so happy that this restaurant is back. Food well prepared with generous portions. Fabulous baked onion soup. The decor has not changed and this is a good thing as this place has a special feeling that evokes its elegance of the past. I will be going again.
We had a great experience! Food, service, atmosphere -all were great. We’re definitely going back.
real food, local ingredients, generous portions. You can have a conversation, atlthough it is a bit noisy due to acoustics. Thank you for NOT playing idiotic music i.e. rock&roll like so many restaurants do nowadays. I refuse to eat in a restaurant that plays loud music! The heartsof lettuce salad w/bacon is my favorite dish. The pickled beets are excellent on top of the salad.
Onion soup was amazing. Bring your appetite as the portions are fit for a lumberjack! Don't pass up the apple strudel as full as you may be, you will regret it.
The menu is quite small and there are not enough entrees to choose from. The appetizer section is filled with items that should and could be placed with as entrees. The menu is mostly filled with dishes $20 and over, it's very pricey. Kids entrees offered are minimal. Most entrees are not 3 course meals as my fried flounder came with steak fries and macaroni salad, no vegetable/salad offered. Dessert, which we skipped, was offered. Cake, $9 a slice.
Pickled beet appetizer was very good.
Homemade onion bread was quite good.
Sauerbraten was very tender and more than I could eat.
Apfelstrudel was superb. Homemade whipped cream.
Potato Leek soup could have been better.
Red Cabbage could have been better.
There was a tendency to put sugar in most/all of the main meal foods.
Only the Pickled beets need it because of the sweet/sour marinade.
The rest don't need it.
The Potato Leek soup was a bit oily.
Would have liked to have a nice imported Weizenbier on tap.
However that is not on the list.
This is our first time back since it was reopened. The food and drinks were wonderful and it was nice to see the old feel of the restaurant was still there. The service was good despite there being a very large and loud party in the next room. At times the party was so loud you couldn't carry on a conversation. We will definitely be back hopefully on a quieter day.
Food was amazing. Staff was amazing. My only complaint was Too noisy and too cold by the bar area. Ac was blowing right on us. Made reservation for 2 and it didn't mention bar area. It made us rush through our dinner to get out of the cold.
Food was very good, portions were nice size. Cocktails were amazing. Main dining room could have been cooler.
Awesome food and selection. I would recommend this establishment.
