The service is so so. The utensils not ready for seat down. We celebrated the birthday there with nothing. Not recommend for any celebration there
Jolly Fisherman is usually packed "to the gills" on a Saturday for lunch. Restaurant was virtually empty with waitstaff standing with little to do. Given that, service was not as good as it could be. Glasses not refilled, no one came to check on us after being served. And a soda refill request was never brought. Portions are smaller; prices are about the same. Decent value, but not what it was.
Lunch menu very good, sepecially for fish.
Nice view of pond
Awesome food. High quality. Good classic but not pretentious ambience. Cool view of the duck pond.
Awesome meal! Highly recommend!!
My family has been dining here since they opened in 1957….Always a pleasure….Never disappointed
The food was excellent, our waiter was so attentive. We celebrated our 10th wedding anniversary and our waiter brought us dessert with candles. I will be returning
My husband and I came here for our anniversary. The ambiance was lovely. Staff was super friendly. Food was outstanding. Service was a tad slow but it was a busy Friday night. Looking forward to coming back.
Funeral party there lack of good service food was cold expense and not as good as it should be
Quality food and friendly service
We had a delicious meal at the bar. Drinks were excellent. Service is very friendly but could be more attentive. Still 5 stars!
I have been dining here for more than 40 years and have always been satisfied. Until yesterday, however, The special of the day was lobster newburg. The lobster was way overcooked and the newburg sauce was truly tasteless with the exception of the sherry which was heavy handed. Very disappointed
Pleasant, attentive waitstaff, spacious, wonderful views.
Food was good, good portions.
Such a great experience! The staff was friendly and accommodating, and our server George was phenomenal. We ordered a shrimp cocktail to split, and George brought it out on 2 separate plates for us. Little details like that make a big difference! We both had the twin lobster tails and they were perfectly cooked. We will be back!
Surprised at food and service have declined so much. Calamari was cooked in old grease. Appetizer plate, celery stalk was not cut off. Presentation of scallops looked like slopped together. Broiled sole was poorly presented and cooked on only one side and was not fresh. Asparagus was of poor quality and it was difficult to cut. Busboys reached across diners several times. Been to Jolly Fisherman many times before and this was unexpected. Will not say I will not eat there again, but will not go out of my way to pay five star prices for one star service anytime in the near future.
It was a pleasant experience with the restaurant half empty and attentive service. The food was very good, dessert (ice cream over a blueberry crumpet) was excellent.
The food just wasn’t as good as usual this time. My date’s filet mignon, ordered medium, was very well done. My lobster was also quite over cooked. Iceberg wedge salad arrived completely deconstructed. Desserts were quite good however and we did like our server. Overall, really just average but at prices that really are paying for above average.
The elegant atmosphere and the gracious staff made the evening one to remember as it was our anniversary. The manager made sure to check on us to see if we were enjoying the service and the food. The Salmon was excellent.
Food good, service not so good
The best NE clam chowder I have had in years including in places like Essex and Glouster! Food was excellent. We all had fish and they know what they are doing in that regard. Service was V G and we had no complaints. This restaurant deserves its very consistently high ratings. Definitely on the “return” list!
Food was excellent service was right on great experience all around
Prices are high but portions are good and quality of food is always consistent. Beautiful water views, calm dining room, attentive service. Homemade desserts, extensive seafood menu.
Delicious food as always
Everything was perfect! The place is beautiful and big-felt very safe- the seafood was outstanding...everyone loved it!
Food was excellent. We had lunch. I had the lemon sole and cherry stones as a starter. My wife had the shrimp. We'd eat there every week if we lived in the area.
Very good value for lunch. Macadamia nut crusted salmon was delicious. I tried the chopped liver appetizer which was ok. They had nothing chocolate for dessert so I tried the cheesecake which was also ok. Pinot Grigio excellent. Breads included onion rolls, mini corn muffins and date nut bread which were all excellent. Will definitely go back. Nice water view of the duck pond. Appetizer, entree with vegetable and potato, dessert and coffee included in the price of the entree.
From walking in the door they did not miss a beat. Friendly, table by the water view was great, food served hot & at a good pace. Good choice of dishes at lunch . I hope to return.
This restaurant is about eating rather than "a dining experience". Since 1957, the Sheiner family has operated one of the most distinctive restaurants both on Long Island and also the entire metropolitan area. The emphasis is on comfort in a pleasant space and the enjoyment of food carefully prepared. Although "surf and turf", the menu emphasizes seafood, which is always of exceptional quality. A lunch and dinner eaten there last week demonstrated conclusively that the JF maintains the same standard of quality and service as it has for the thirty years I have been dining there.
Battered shrimp outstanding. Hugest shrimp I ever had. Shoestring fries perfect. My wife had the Ipswich clams, perfect. Our servers Alexis and Carlos were great!
If you want a great table overlooking the water you better reserve it a month in advance. I've tried numerous times by OPEN TABLE & PHONE RESERVATIONS!! They seem to only accommodate their "REGULARS" even though your dropping some serious coin there. Also it seems that Open Table is alotted X amount of tables & blacks out popular times especially on the weekends.
There's plenty of resdaurants that suffered through the pandemic that would CERTAINLY APPRECIATE my patronage.
GOOD BYE FISH FRY!!
We enjoyed the lobster
Lobster tails are superb!
Lovely dinner . Perfect service.
Our server was very nice. Explained the specials and was very attentive. The food was excellent. Oysters were great. Two of our party had scallops one had duck and one had chilean sea bass. All were excellent.
Hadn't been here in a while and was pleasantly surprised. Portions were huge and food was excellent.
The Jolly Fisherman is still a guarantee of excellent food. It has become very expensive and they have now eliminated the salad as a no charge part of the meal it seems which is a shame.
Food was outstanding. Swordfish with mustard sauce cooked perfectly. Lobster tail, although pricey, was delicious. Host was very accommodating when we asked to change our table. Service was good.
As always an enjoyable. How's usual food was great.
We went to Jolly Fisherman to celebrate a birthday and a wedding anniversary. They offer the best New England Clam Chowder that I have ever eaten. Their Iceberg Lettuce Wedge was huge, so big that it was shared with the folks who were enjoying the clam chowder. We all ordered one of Jolly Fisherman's specialties, a dish consisting of shrimp, scallops and clams on pasta with garlic and oil. Excellent! For desert we shared the Blueberry Pie and the famous Jolly Fisherman Banana Cream Pie! Everything about this meal was superb!
The best place in the area for seafood and waterfront dining. Really enjoy their food and excellent service. A place for delicious drinks and food with friends for leisurely dining and attentive but not overbearing service. Became a regular after the first time.
