Est. 1991. Jean-Georges' first restaurant, and named after his childhood nickname that his mother would call him, has recently reopened in a duplex townhouse on the Upper East Side, creating a modern and fresh design, yet still maintaining an understated, warm and friendly atmosphere. JoJo Ratings and Reviews
Food and service was amazing. Front staff totally unaccommodating. Asked to be sat a corner table and was denied. No one sat there our entire meal. Asked front
Staff on the way out why he did not seat us there and his response was we had a cancellation. If they had a cancellation why then did they not move us? Or tell us on the way out. Complete careless attitude typical of Jean Georges front staff.
Everything at JoJo was spectacular. Great service, good wine selection, and food that was out of this world. We had a citrus salad, warm seafood salad, duck, salmon, and chicken dishes and all were made to perfection. Don't let the relatively few choices on the mains menu set you off- they are all good and very creative. New decor since renovations is lovely, and makes for a very relaxing and comfortable dining experience. Though we live across the park on the west side, we plan to return to JoJo as frequently as budget allows. Not cheap but certainly great value for money!!
This was our first visit to the newly renovated JoJo. They did a fantastic job. It's completely redone, and is light and airy, slightly wider (it's in a town house). The food was excellent; I loved the duck on a bed of wild rice with a candied sweet potato. One friend had the beef, which she loved, and my husband had the lobster. The chicken was delicious, but chicken is just chicken!
Desserts were also spectacular. We'll be back and can't wait for them to open for lunch!
My wife and I came from Boston and ate here on Saturday night for the first time and it was perfect. The menu is simple but with great variety, the service is over the top and the ambiance could not be better in a newly renovated town house. Definitely has the feel of a neighborhood restaurant and not the typical tourist stop. We highly recommend JoJo.
The new Jojo's is as good (or better than the old). We were extremely content with the warm welcome, professional polish of the staff, excellent menu selection and new decor. One small quibble...please add chick pea fries to the every day menu not just Monday nights.
The change in the decor was over the top odd, more like a fancy diner. The charm of the prior was lost. Loads of help milling around ,to the extent you wondered if some staff had anything to do. However the actual service was only so so. Very limited menu and what we did choose was not a true Vonnerichtin experience. Would not go Bach which is sad as original was one of our favorites and we live just six blocks away.
The food was terrific, the service was unbelievably poor. Being rushed for an order after telling the server to please give us time. Continually pouring the sparking water into the flat water after being reminded....etc.
Sadly this group of servers need TRAINING....
Delicious food. We just loved the tuna tartare in lettuce leaf appetizer, the Wagu beef, brussel sprouts, and dessert (warm chocolate cake and pear/sour cherry crumble) -- honestly everything was really good but those were the standouts. We had a 7:30 reservation (Sunday) made through open table, seated on time. The place was full when we arrived and full when we left with a low key, chic crowd. Service was SO attentive and the young, attractive waitstaff were professional and thoughtful. I wish the room was warmer and more elegant. The decor is kind of cold and Swedish, no tableclothes and the cafe tables are small which gives it a more relaxed vibe. It feels intimate, but the townhouse location begs for warmth and elegance. The "downtown" and casual vibe does not match the posh venue, superb food and service -- So good that it deserves to feel more luxurious.
Exceptional food; excellent, friendly and cheerful service; beautiful, comfortable surroundings. We especially liked being seated upstairs where there are tables for larger groups (6 or so), and the atmosphere is quieter and the space seems less energized. We loved the warm seafood salad with avacado; the kale and broccoli salad; the sea bass; the Maine Lobster; and butterscotch dessert! We had a mini family reunion with siblings for a birthday, and the staff was very supportive and helpful.
Part of JoJo from the get go and have been frequenting the place through all its changes. Prices do not match the ambience paper placemats and decor change the advantage of being in a townhouse at that address. Sneakers and dress have downplayed a menu of quality. Noise level was a racket and although food was excellent, I would not return as I found it had lost its charm.
I had only one night in NYC, and went straight to JoJo for a treat. It was a frigid cold night, but the reception was warm and welcoming. I liked the remodel, but I liked it before the remodel too, so my reaction to the environment was still comforting.
Service was impeccable. Each staff member demonstrated warmth and professionalism.
As always, the food was wonderful: seafood salad, salmon, and the lava cake for a celebration of my birthday.
A special note of commendation to Dennis for having the most wonderful way of making me feel like a welcome guest in his home.
I can’t wait to return.
I was so happy to discover that Jojo had finally reopened and invited a colleague for a business dinner. I was disappointed to find that what I thought of as the warm and inviting atmosphere of the old Jojo seems to have disappeared. A lot of hard surfaces have made it a lot noisier. The food is still first rate and service was good, so I will probably keep trying it--it was the best place in my neighbourhood and hope it will continue to be.
Food perfectly prepared, delicious and fun. Small menu for both food and wine but enough to select from for every palate. Love the updated, lighter decor. Downstairs a bit casual, will try the upstairs for a cozier feel. Gets noisy at peak hours but that’s part of the fun. Only piece that needs work is the service. Our server was young and inexperienced in both her approach and manner. Would be great to add training on the nuances of good service. (eg...Don’t remove 1bread plate from table because 1of 2people do not initially order a piece. They may change mind later or share with partner or ask for some later or use it as a side plate. Select proper size wine glass for the type of wine and don’t be giggling and distracted with your serving peers while you are opening a fine bottle of wine. )
The staff went out of their way to be pleasant, but after waiting 15 minutes for a reserved table, there was a long wait for ordering, and then a very long wait for the food, which was quite nice. There was a cold draft blowing over me throughout, apparently made worse whenever the door to the restaurant was opened. I was never given the bread that I saw on other tables. Overall, not an experience I want to repeat.
The new JoJo is superb! The interior renovation is clean, crisp, and well lighted--a big improvement. The menu is also excellent, yet spare and simple. Our dinners (salmon and chicken) were cooked to perfection and the preparations were both interesting and tasty. Our server steered us to the crab dumplings, which was a great call; the 6-minute egg and salad was also delicious. We don't typically order dessert, but their apple and sour cherry crumble with almond ice cream greatly exceeded my expectations. Service throughout our meal was friendly and attentive. We also loved how nicely they treated a family dining with their toddler. While it was a date for us, we intend to bring our family back next time. Huge success!
