It was just a okay experience. The food was a bit disappointing. They served the tuna appetizer with only two chips to a table of five people. Still we’re eating the appetizer when the main entree arrived. Felt rushed for that.

Stopped by Johnny’s Tavern while in town for my son’s orientation at UMass. Got fish, a homemade pasta dish with duck and the braised short rib with gnocchi. Everything was delicious, including their mocktails.

First visit to Johnny's: Food was very good and our server was extremely pleasant. Great place to hang out for a drink and a meal.

Service started a little bit slow; we were in the main dining room and there was a large party right in the center of the room, which raised the noise level and probably distracted the serving staff to notice that we had been seated. We waited for about 10 to 12 minutes until our waiter finally came over to us and from there all went smoothly. We had PEI muscles as an appetizer (a little heavy on the fennel) and each of us got to pasta dishes that were amazing. We’ll be back!

Jeff was our server, who successfully balanced our party of 2 while attending to a party of 13 and his other tables with kindness and professionalism. A busy night with UMass orientation did not significantly slow down the kitchen nor did it impact the excellent quality of the food that we so appreciate. It was also a night where the entire team helped each other, which is a clear sign of how they have each other’s backs. Well done!

My friend said the flank steak was wonderful, and I really liked the mushroom pasta. I especially appreciated that it arrived nice and hot. His beer was apparently fine and we both liked my Portuguese white wine. The strawberry shortcake my friend ordered was a disappointment. It looked to me like cake with strawberry syrup poured over the top. When he dug in with his fork, some small pieces of strawberry were visible, but we had both expected to see more strawberries on top and around the dish. Both of us were used to shortcake made with biscuits. I guess the cake foundation is a reasonable variation, but the missing strawberries were not! Our server was outstanding! It was a busy Friday evening, and she was very friendly, attentive, helpful, and efficient. Her bright personality added to the pleasure of our evening. We both thoroughly enjoyed the atmosphere and the meal (except for you know what). It was a terrific evening.
