Ambiance great. Waitress very nice. Food wS greasy and not great. I can’t say I would speak badly about but I wouldn’t necessarily recommend it either.
Great spot with excellent food. Even the dipping oil concoction for the bread was amazing. Tremendously good flavor in each app/dish we ordered. Would come again for sure.
Entrees, drinks and desserts were excellent. Restaurant is a bit loud to hold a coverstion at the table. All the staff were accommodating and friendly.
The food was outstanding! It has a cozy tavern feel with great music!
As usual great food, and service!
I had not been to Johnny's Tavern in a few years. The last time I had went, I thought the food was OK.
This time I was blown away! The food was amazing! I had surf and turf for under $30. The drinks were amazing as well. I will definitely be back!!
Great menu, reasonable prices. Love going here - there's always something new on the menu. Try the huge pretzel app!
Had a great meal on a busy Saturday while visiting UMass with my son. He loved the calamari and black ink spaghetti and I had a very good short rib. Server was great and comped the appetizer when they were slow in getting my glass of wine.
Wonderful meal and will definitely be back. It was loud in the restaurant but very crowded. Parking is a bit of a nightmare tho.
A perfect, problem free birthday celebration dinner. Service like clockwork, but more pleasant than clockwork. Interesting menu. Excellent preparation. Totally satisfying experience.
The fried chicken sandwich was phenomenal- crispy, juicy and flavorful. Home made chips are a must! Shrimp carbonara was very good- could have used a bit more zest spice. Soups very tasty
Food is always great. Unfortunately bread was cold and service was a little slow, but this is typical of Johnny's since it's always so busy.
Johnny's Tavern is our go-to restaurant when we visit our kids in Amherst. Everything on the menu is expertly prepared... and they make a great sidecar.
We absolutely love coming to Johnny's. We have never had bad service or a bad meal. As a Chef, I often find it troublesome finding a meal that matches the pricing or the type of service and ambiance provided. Johnny's has certainly captured this perfectly. The establishment is always in good condition, very clean, and the setting is still intimate with crowds. My only complaint is that it can be a bit chilly inside.
This is favorite restaurant in all of Amherst. Its 5 star food for 2 star prices. Everything from beginning to end is perfect and getting a complete meal for under 50 bucks is amazing. I take all my friends here for dinner. Perfect for a nice date, an anniversary, a gathering of friends or even a business discussion.
Outstanding value. Seldom does excellent food and great service match with reasonable prices. I was advised to make a reservation which I did and at 6:30 pm on a Wednesday night the place was packed. Got seated within 5 minutes and the waitress was very responsive. My wife and I both had the Black Pasta with Seafood which was delicious. Highly recommend Johnny’s Tavern.
I love this restaurant! The food is well prepared, creative and there is plenty to eat. Choices are varied and reflect an eclectic focus. Prices are very reasonable and the beer and wine list more than adequate. I’ll make it a point to be here more regularly.
This was my husband and my first time dining there and was our first date night since having our baby. The ambiance was perfect for the occasion, the food was superb and service was exquisite. We will absolutely be returning.
We are frequent guests st Johnnys because of the great service, delicious, we’ll-made food, and the atmosphere. It’s alsovreasonably priced.
We had a great date night! First time dinning and it was very yummy!
Always great. My son's favorite Bolognese anywhere. Hearty portions and comfortable atmosphere. One of our favorite eating spots in the Valley.
Try it! I have never had a bad meal at Johnny’s Tavern.
We went to Johnny’s Tavern for New Year’s Eve dinner. The Salmon and Short Rib were awesome! Awesome service as always. We always enjoy our dinners there! There was a large table of people near us that we kind of loud and had obviously had a few drinks! They left and another large, loud party took their place! But it didn’t spoil our dinner. We will return many times!
This was our first time going to Johnny's Tavern, but probably won't be our last. (We live in Maine so our opportunities for going there are limited.) The food was very good, and the service was excellent. There were a lot of interesting menu choices, and the wine & beer selections were first-rate. Our only quibble is that it was fairly noisy--a measure of the popularity of the place!
This is the place to go in Amherst. Food, service and bar are all top notch.
Very good food with broad selection. Great service, friendly staff. A bit noisy though
We just love going to Johnnys. It’s my favorite restaurant in western mass, and anytime we go somewhere else, I always wish we had gone to Johnnys instead! Way to set the standard!
Our server was excellent. Lighting was a bit dark in the back room. I would highly recommend Johnnys for food choice and quality.
I highly recommend Johnny’s as this is one of the best restaurants in the area. The food is consistent and has that higher level of taste that the best restaurants have. My wife and I had the pasta with sausage dish and it was outstanding. The only thing better was the cheese cake dessert!! I do not want to leave out the parsnip soup...awesome, like everything else. Go to Johnny’s Tavern in Amherst!
Braised beef pappardelle was delicious as was the Killka Malbec.
We have 2 friends we meet here on Friday evenings. We use Open Table to make or reservation because Johnny's Tavern gets busy. There were other places to go a few years ago and now Johnny's is the place to eat. The food and service are great. Drinks are well prepared and a decent selection of wines although no Merlot but a great blend.
Loved our server and food was very good. Only complaint was it was cold by the windows but will come back. Some of the men wished you offered a Domestic beer (Budweiser) but I'm sure that was intentional to promote the craft industry.
Ahi Tuna sandwich is unbelievable!
Service was great, food delicious. No complaints!
We always enjoy dinner and lunch at Johnnys but were really disappointed that you no longer serve brunch on Sundays We will have to find a new brunch spot for eggs Benedict
Restaurant was very busy, but our reservation was honored quickly.
Service was informal, pleasant, and prompt.
Pasta -- in my opinion -- should be avoided here, because sauce has too many ingredients, and is overly fatty.
Duck dish looked interesting.
Short ribs were quite good. Mashed potatoes OK, and spinach just fine.
Beer choices were interesting.
Bread was very good.
Wine list looked to be somewhat expensive, with a relatively small number of choices. Brands/vineyards unknown to me.
Our table of 4 shared a chocolate "bombe" dessert which was over-the-top, and not praiseworthy.
3 of 4 in our party liked the restaurant, and felt that it represented good value.
Diners who make SIMPLE menu choices would likely be happy here.
In town for a wedding and had read very favorable reviews. So glad we decided to eat at Johnny’s
Terrific local spot. Excellent simple food very well cooked and very good service and value.
This was my second visit, and I enjoyed sitting at the bar better than the dining room. The food's the same but the service at the bar was quicker, and I enjoyed being able to watch a football game. Plus, this is of the few places in Amherst that's open after 9 on a Sunday.
