Johnny's Italian Steakhouse - Sun Prairie
This was our second visit to Johnny's Italian Steakhouse in Sun Prairie. Our first visit was shortly after it opened and we had a mixed experience. We like the one on the west side so much that we wanted to give SP another shot. I'm glad we did. This time we were seated behind the main dining room, and the setting was more intimate (but not small at all) and comfortable. We ordered a bottle of Cline Zinfandel, which is always a safe choice for an inexpensive wine ($35). We had the sausage stuffed mushrooms as an appetizer. They were very tasty, and 5 seemed like the right number for the two of us, maybe just a little pricey at $10. Sadly, we had requested water and our appetizer was about gone by the time it arrived. I ordered the Filet Medallion Trio, medium, and they were definitely more rare than that. The server offered to take them back, but knowing I wouldn't be able to finish the entire dinner, I elected to eat the outer edges of the steaks and took the rest home - which were then perfect when reheated the next day. The three toppings were all excellent - I honestly couldn't say which was my favorite. My husband had the large filet, medium rare, with horseradish topping, and it was prepared perfectly and he said it was an outstanding steak. The warm focaccia bread with oil and family-style salad were also very good (maybe a little too dressed), and my baked potato and my husband's garlic mashed potatoes didn't disappoint. We topped the meal off by sharing the Roasted Banana Cheesecake which seemed like a cross between a banana bread-cake-cheesecake with a light salted butterscotch topping and was quite delicious.
Really good food, really nice atmosphere, staff was outstanding - and I'll be back!
Valentines Day Dinner. They were completely booked but, found a way to fit us in. Everything was excellent!
The food was fantastic. Filet for me and stuffed shrimp for my guest. Our service was not so great. Four or five other tables were seated, served and done before we received our meal. Nearly two hours from start to finish. I would go back but have a new server.
This was our second dining at Jonny's both times my wife and I were greeted and seated by friendly staff. Our waiter was pleasant and checked on us frequently without announce. The steaks were cooked to perfection.
Will dine here again.
Outstanding service and food, can’t wait to go back!
May give another try but dinners 4 took too long and asked for steak med pink it was well done and burnt. Hopefully will get better after open a while.
Absolutely we would. MyWife and I had celebrated our 41 st wedding anniversary there. Our waitress Dee was wonderful and attentive. We would request her again.
Our meal and service was great. However, what almost ruined our meal was the use toxic smelling cleaner that was sprayed on the tables that were next to ours. For some people with allergies to chemicals, could have caused an allergic reaction. For us it almost ruined our meal. I believe the bus boys were using 409 as cleaner, very toxic and very bad smelling. And the big spray bottles, really?
Sysco brand steaks. Ribeye was tough. Cooked perfectly but just a cheap steak. Crab cakes were over powered with nutmeg. Drinks were good. Service was good. Prices for the cheap quality steaks are over-priced. 2/5. Will not return and would not reccomend.
My husbands steak was really bad. No favor and was so tough. He had a time eating it. Also the server didn’t seem really happy to be at work. We were out to celebrate my husbands birthday and we have two small child. So you know we don’t get out much. We were very disappointed!!
This was my first time at Johnny's Italian Steakhouse restaurant and the only complaints that I have is that they could have had larger pieces of lobster in my meal and they should offer meatballs with the spaghetti. I will definitely come back again, the food and prices and the service were beyond.
Food was very good. Recently built. Lots of grey colors, dismal looking decor, music a bit loud.
The food was excellent. Food was priceier than what we were use to coming from a small town in Wisconsin. Food was worth it.
Great food and service
We ordered the entrée from Restaurant Week. Poor quality and overcooked.
Waitress disappeared after we placed our orders. Never came back to ask how we were doing.
Very attentive and friendly waiter. We came during restaurant week and had a really good meal.
Excellent food and excellent service. Beautiful restaurant. Would definitely come back and recommend to others.
It was restaurant week - food was very good. Our server was attentive and although she said it might take a while, I didn't think the food was later than normal.
However, for a first time visit, it was hard to find. Perhaps add to your website that it with the hotel? It wasn't easy to get to the parking lot either. Our reservation was for 11:45 but due to getting lost in the area, they held a table for us.
We decided to try the new Sun Prairie Location for restaurant week. We have been to the Middleton location several times and enjoyed our dinners very much. We arrived a little early and sat at the bar and ordered drinks. The bartenders were nice and knowledgeable. We were seated a little late but within reason for restaurant week. My son ordered the Ribeye which was on special menu, I ordered veal, and my girlfriend ordered the salmon. We also ordered the pizza bread and scallops for an appetizer. They came in a timely manner and were very good. That's when things went bad. My son had to order something different, because they had run out of the Ribeye, so he ordered the Filet. After appetizers then we had salads delivered, then the waitress came to the table and told me they were now out of the veal. At this time we had already been there for 75 minutes. 15 minutes later they came with the Filet and the New York Strip that i ordered, and the waitress said she'd be right back with the salmon. My girlfriend insisted we start eating since her meal would be coming soon. My son's Filet was so charred he needed to trim the char off so he could eat what was left, we would have sent it back, but we were going on 1-1/2 hours. My New York Strip was very good. Another 10 minutes had gone by and i finally got up and found the manager, she apologized and went to the kitchen to figure out what was going on. 5 minutes later the salmon arrived at the table piping hot. The manager took care of our bill, and apologized for the inconvenience. Later we asked the server what happened and were told they overcooked a Ribeye just before starting my son's so they had to use his to fill that order, the veal was just out and the chef never told the waitress, and the salmon was supposed to come with no butter and the chef put butter on it. I believe this will be a good restaurant in time, just needs to work out the kinks and the chef needs to communicate.
Went for Restaurant week, service was good, food was great. Steak was very good. Waitress was nice and helpful. Just wish they had a Happy Hour at the bar from 4 to 6 or 7. Maybe someday.
Waiter was very personable. BUT, restaurant week should have been simple. Choice of 3 items for appetizer, 3 for main dish, 3 for dessert. Main dish and dessert, served incorrect dishes for both. The main dish created an awkward delay in meal, while I picked gently at mine while we waited. Dessert was easier to forgive as mine had a flavor similar to a cold Hostess cupcake. Table next to us was served wrong dish also. Too disorganized for such an beautiful ambiance.
Our food was delicious and we thoroughly enjoyed the Restaurant Week menu options. However, our young waiter was inexperienced. The table was not cleared of extraneous menus before the food arrived. Plates from each course were not cleared before the next course arrived, leaving us to dine amidst used plates and silverware. I paid with cash and my change was not returned. I guess he assumed it was for the tip. Isn't it customary for the change to be returned and the guest chooses the amount to tip? Hopefully, he will get some more training and experience and gain confidence to be able to provide the exceptional service that one would expect from a fine dining restaurant.
Made an error and went to Greenway Crossing branch. Service was excellent, as they let us stay regardless of the wrong reservation and food came quickly. Perhaps too quickly, as desserts suffered from being cold. Also disappointing was the lack of vegetable side dishes during Restaurant Week and the pairing of Chicken Parmesan with garlic mashed potatoes.
Glad I had reservations! Very busy at lunch . Wine was excellent and sandwich/soup lunch special was really good and reasonably priced!
Awesome! I will becoming back.
I visited Johnny's in Sun Prairie with a group of friends (4 of us total) for Restaurant Week. I had high hopes after having good experiences at the Middleton location. We have an 11:30AM lunch reservation on a Sunday and the restaurant was very quiet when we got there. In spite of that and the fact that we ordered from the very limited menu for Restaurant week, it took TWO HOURS from the time we sat down until the time we left. And that is not because we were slow eaters. It took a really really long time to get our food.
I will say that once we got the food, it was very good. (I had the bruschetta, steak, and banana cheesecake from the Restaurant Week menu.) The two staff members we encountered (the hostess and our waitress) were both friendly. But there needs to be some work behind-the-scenes if it is taking that long. I'm hoping this is part of them trying to get their bearings as a new restaurant and that they get the kinks worked out because it would really be nice to have a Johnny's on this side of town if the service could match the Middleton one.
I have been to Johnny’s two other times once in Middleton and once in Sun Prairie. Both times the food was excellent as was the service. So this time I brought others and had high expectations. But on both food and service it fell flat. Not sure why but I was very disappointed. The food was bland and once our food came we didn’t see our server until the check came. Also made me look bad with people I recommended come with me.
The parking lot was not plowed, my wife had to walk thru ankle deep snow in heels, it had stopped snowing 9 hours previously. (major bummer)
The waiter could not provide any details about the "Roasted Red Snapper" other than it has tomato's. The were no condiments brought to the table with the main entre, my ribeye steak was over done although my wifes was not.
The online reservation system worked well although.
I realize it is a new store with all new staff, need some practice i guess.
Good Food, Good Drinks, Good Service. I'd return there and I'd recommend to others.
Enjoyed our first visit to the Sun Prairie location.
Bartender was good, waiter (Trent) was excellant & very attentive to us. Great tasting meals! Good ambience. We had reservations, got there early to sit at the bar for a drink & got seated right away at our reservation time.
It was a lovely evening to celebrate a birthday with family. We will be back!
It was our server who made this a great dinning pleasure. She was great and should be considered an asset to the shop.
Everything awesome but hosts seemed bored, unfriendly, and proceeded to seat us at a table for six but our reservation was for just me and my hubby. We asked for the booth across the way as it felt fairly ridiculous at a huge round table. Thought it was weird because there were smaller empty tables in other areas. Food was great and our waiter Tripp was fantastic.
It was an ok experience. Not great service; food was ok. average.
This was my 4th trip to Johnny's and it was by far the worst. We sat at the table for about 15 minutes before our waitress stopped by. The bread was hard and was obviously not made that day. They brought us new bread when we asked for it and it was much better - the first bread should not have been served. My steak was overdone, my wife's steak was overdone, the other couple in our group had ordered their steaks medium and medium well so their steaks were fine.
We will go back as the first three times we went our food and service were excellent. We had a pretty early reservation so we thought that might have contributed to the poor service.
We have now been to Johnny’s in Sun Prairie 4 times since they have opened. We have had amazing food and a great time on all of those occasions! The wait staff are very professional and attentive, and the bar is very upscale-feeling.
We were happy with everything but my steak had a little more char broil on the top than my wife's did and therefore the taste wasn't perfect for mine. My wife's steak was perfect. Our waiter was great. we will be back.
The restaurant, atmosphere and service were all fine. However, the food was not of the quality expected for a well known "steak house" and really very over priced. Will not bother returning! Can do better at the local bar establishment.
