Johnny's at The Atlantic Resort
Johnny's is a gem worth rediscovering. They were always a great place to dine on the beach, and still are at their new location in the Atlantic Resort. We were a group of 8 and had a mix of seafood dishes, rack of lamb, chicken piccata, chicken marsala. All dishes looked and tasted good. The service was great; professional, friendly, and aware. The ambience was nice. As it was a midweek, cold, winter evening the place was all ours.
If you havent been to Johnny's lately, it is worth checking it out. It may be the best restaurant in Middletown.
Live music was great as was the food and cocktails.
We went to Johnny's on Valentine's Day. They were offering a 3 course dinner for $35. The choices were excellent. I had clam chowder, filet mignon and chocolate mousse cake. My wife had grilled shrimp wrapped in prosciutto, lobster ravioli, and creme broule. The meals were prepared perfectly and the presentation was awesome, fitting for the occasion. Service was really good as well, they thought they were a little slow but we weren't in a hurry so it was fine. Great meal, good value. Looking forward to going back to Johnny's.
Went there on a Sunday evening when wonderful live Jazz was being played. If you want less "sound", go some other evening. Service, food, atmosphere was great.
Birthday pleasantly surprise 1st visit
Brunch on Sunday. Overall less than expected. Food items were sparse and the lunch part of brunch was not appealing.
Really less than expected for a hotel brunch.
Maybe it was the presentation?
Took my aunts for Sunday brunch and it was fabulous. The variety was excellent. The service was so friendly and professional. Can't wait to go back!
We went for the Early Bird specials. The quality and quantity of food were fine for the price. The salad and bolognese were tasty. The red wine was served too warm. Skip the dessert...cheap chocolate cake or vanilla ice cream. Not worth the calories. The waiter was unfortunately having an off night. The bus person was a no show so the waiters were a bit frazzled. It was surprisingly loud for being less than half full. Mostly bar noise. No view which was a shame. Overall the dining experience was ok.
Convenient place to eat if you are at the hotel and a good selection priced moderately.
Not what was expected. We had a reservation and were seated quickly. A jazz band was playing in the corner of the restaurant, which was very good! However, when they stopped playing there was no further music of any type making the restaurant almost too quiet. We found the atmosphere a bit stark, bland and almost cafeteria like. Harsh lighting that resembled modern fluorescents. Food was good, but nothing special and it was the first time I ever had tomatoes put into a caesar salad! However, portions were large.
Server was fine, but either had a long day or wanted to be somewhere else. All in all, it was just OK, will probably not go back.
Go to place a little out of the beaten path. Worth the short drive from downtown Newport. Consistent service and full menu.
We were attending a wedding at the resort and decided to eat lunch at Johnny's before, which was PERFECT!
Delicious food and quick, courteous service made our experience wonderful.
Food was good but was expecting some sort of water view from the restaurant. It overlooks a parking lot.
Waited waited waited severs kept walking by us. I asked a few times for water and to order a drink never came over finally we got up and on the way over we were stopped by a very nice lady. We should have kept going out but she asked me to give them another chance. Big mistake the stuffed shrimp were unetible. I paid left and the evening for me and my fiancée was ruined.
Nice location - outside you have a nice view - there was a wedding going on in the adjoining facility which made for great people watching- the restaurant itself was very quiet. Food was good and waitstaff was attentive.
Food was excellent and so was the service. Nice setting, however, there is no view, even though the place is on the water, only the outside spaces (which does not include the dining space) has a view. We had expected a view, but otherwise, very good.
The food was excellent and service was great. Great night!
Outstanding service! Great food and beautiful scenary!!!
Johnny's is a very good restaurant and the arrangement for music is attractive. However, the performer I drove 75 miles to hear, against Cape Cod Sunday traffic, cancelled her appearance. I wish that Open Table , in one of its several e-mails, would have told me about the cancellation. You did not!
Also, there is nothing on the outside of the building that directs you to Johnny's. It would be helpful to change this.
We visited for a special occasion. The dining room had live music which was nice, but quite loud. The food was okay, but one of our guests received her meal long after the rest. It made the meal much less enjoyable., although they did offer her a drink. Overall disappointing.
The food was very good as was the service. The prices were lower than expected considering the quality of the food. The one drawback - the room’s temperature was uncomfortably cold.
Booked because of the location wanted to sit outside to see the ocean when we got there there was an outside bar and seating area which was very pretty but when we ask the hostess if it was the same menu inside as outside she said no so we went inside to eat and it was just a typical Hotel restaurant. Our appetizers were abysmal we didn't eat them we sent them back the lobster and steak were okay. After going back outside we saw waiters bringing the same items on the inside dinner menu outside and ask them if the menu was the same and they said yes we could have ordered anything we wanted and it would have been brought outside. Overall a very unpleasant experience
Great ambiance, great food and excellent service for the Sunday brunch. Our server Michaela was very attentive and a joy to answer our questions regarding the early bird lunch. Based on her input we made a reservation for the early bird this Thursday.
Solid well prepared steaks and seafood just beyond the throng oh Newport summer crowds. Eat for the food and service, not the views
Food was very good and the service was excellent as well.
Great food. Got really loud and the lights were a bit brighter than we’d like but the band was good and the place was nice.
Everything was good except my baked stuffed shrimp tasted really off. I could hardly eat it because it tasted old, like it may make me sick.
Surprised that it wasn't crazy busy on a Friday night. Food was excellent. We were a party of 5, had steak, lobster Mac and cheese, and fried chicken. Everything was perfect. It was all filling, didn't even have room for dessert. Drinks were great and service was super.
It was nice visiting the new location for the first time. It was reassuring to find the same items
Present on the buffet. The addition of the salmon and garnishes was a pleasant surprise, which we totally enjoyed.
We enjoyed our visit and will return after the summer rush has ended! Have a great summer!
This was our first time at Johnny's at the Atlantic Resort and we were very pleased. The new space is comfortable, clean, and on trend. Our food (lobster bisque, clam chowder, pan-seared scallops, and linguine with white clam sauce) was delicious!!! We will definitely be back!
Good, but sadly, not the old Johnny's. Without carpeting to absorb noise, it was very loud, especially since it wasn't crowded. During times when it is full, the noise level must be extremely high. The house specialty, Shrimp and Feta, was always my favorite, but the shrimp were much smaller and there was far less feta. The bolognese sauce had plenty of meat but lacked the robustness that a bolognese should have. Disappointing.
We were a large group and the staff was very accommodating. Half of us enjoyed the buffet brunch and the others ate from the menu. The food was good and plentiful -- the only issue was how long it took for the people ordering off the menu to get their food, which meant that the people having the buffet were finished before the others. Other than that, we enjoyed our lunch and ended up being there long enough to enjoy the first number of an excellent jazz ensemble!
We head to Johnny's for a great dinner with live music. The staff members are incredibly friendly and go out of their way to make you feel appreciated.
Food was good. Customers do appreciate transparency when asking about an item on the menu. Our server was detailed but forgot to mention the difference of price of 2 items which was a $12+ difference when we asked what is the difference of the two. We received the surprise when we saw the bill!
This was my first dinner and second experience at Johnny's. The food and the service were fine -- not extraordinary -- but very good. Worth the price.
What was off-putting about the experience cannot be fixed easily, but included a vast, uninhabited space (except for the bar -- at 7pm on a Saturday night), strange music, poor acoustics (one man who was dining across the room was not shouting, but his voice reverberated strangely around the room nonetheless), and strangely not oriented to a lovely view. When I last ate at Johnny's -- I took my office staff for lunch, and we ate on the patio -- the food was also very good, the service great, and the ambiance far more relaxing and evocative of a "seaside" resort setting.
The dining space seems to have been so oriented to large groups that to go there for a relaxing dinner for two -- especially inside the dining room -- was just unpleasant. This seems a basic design flaw, but for a $60 dinner for two -- with no alcohol or dessert -- a little atmosphere would have been nice.
It was a great way to celebrate my birthday!
Lunch with friends during Restaurant Week-great food and service! Enjoyed it so much we made dinner reservations for later in the week!
Great restaurant inside the Hotel with plenty of seating at the bar and in the dining area. I visited during restaurant week and tried two different entrees. The baked stuffed lobster and the Bacon wrapped sirloin both entrees were delicious. We tried the chocolate mousse cake for dessert which melted in our mouths. I would return to this place in the future.
We had excellent service and the food was great. We went during restaurant week and had the lobster. It was stuffed with more seafood. It was a great value.
Went for lunch, all was very good! Nice place, good band, good food. Will be back.
