Serious food in a fun environment is the name of the game. Stepping through the door will bring guests out of their everyday routine and into an inspired atmosphere reminiscent of Mexico City.
As a Mexican food fanatic I thought this food was amazing. Upscale but definitely not pretentious. Everybody at our party loved their dinner and the appetizers. They even brought dessert for our friends birthday on the house. My only critique is the cocktail menu. It lacked any special cocktails and no exciting margaritas to set it a part which is a bummer considering how great everything else was. 10/10 would still recommend!
The queso fundido is fabulous. A thoroughly enjoyable meal.
The albondiga taco is amazing! I wouldnt have given it a chance, but im glad I did.
From the host to our server, Johnny Sanchez offered outstanding service and tasty food. We'd definitely recommend to someone in need of a very tasty meal.
Food was wonderful! Would come back when in New Orleans again!
Slow service. High price. Food just ok, nothing special.
Nice atmosphere. Disappointed by food. Brussel sprouts very salty. Tastes were subpar. Chips and salsa were best part of meal.
The plantain chips are delicious and the crawfish enchiladas were literally amazing! JS never disappoints!
Loved it! The Crawfish enchiladas were amazing, and definitely stick around for dessert. Be brave and try the chapulines on the guac
Food, service and ambiance exceeded my expectations. Looking forward to returning.
We have been enjoying the finer restaurants in New Orleans for over 15 years. We love Aron Sanchez and were very excited to try Johnny Sanchez. So excited that we booked a reservation on my birthday...Cinco de Mayo. Our experience at Johnny Sanchez was absolutely one of the worst we have ever had in New Orleans. This place absolutely ruined my Birthday.
We walked in and the front of house staff person was very friendly. She told us that because of my Birthday, she was seating in the best seat in the house. We were seated at a window seat next to a DJ table. We sat at “the best table in the house for 20 min. before our server showed up and took our drink and app order. The Guacamole came pretty quickly and was good but two beers took another 10 min. During that time the “DJ” began to play some horrendous Mexican hip hop that was so loud we could not talk to each other. An older gentleman, who we found out was Aron Sanchezs Uncle was harassing female customers in an effort to get them to dance. Several people left during this time and a couple more came in the door and abruptly left not wanting to dine in the”club” atmosphere.
My wife and I ordered both of the specials being offered. The most expensive on the menus. After 45 minutes, several inquiries, and me threatening to just walk out our food came. Honestly, the food was very good but the loud music, the long wait and terrible service made it irrelevant. Just to top it off, we missed most of a show we had bought tickets for months in advance as I never imagined that dinner in a Mexican restaurants take 2 1/2 hours.
It may have been because of cinco de Mayo but with all the competition in New Orleans, I strongly recommend anywhere else! By the way. This is the worst review I have ever written.
Food is very good everything was well seasoned and the quacamole is the best I’ve had. You get a mix of regular chips and plantain chips with both being very good. Margarita was good and if you like tequila they have a large selection. It’s a little in the pricey side but I thought it was worth it.
Excellent staff and delicious food! The cauliflower tacos are the best!
Great food, but a bit pricey and it took a while to get our food.
The chicharon was cloyingly greasey and they put sugar with the limes on the tequila shots
Great food in a casual and fun environment. Loved the mural inside the restaurant. The food and drinks were very good as well as the service. We had the chili con queso which was some of the best we've ever had. The tacos were very good as well. We will definitely visit again the next time we are in New Orleans.
The food was fantastic! There were 8 of us and everyone enjoyed their food a great deal. Our only complaint was that the service was slow. Granted, it was busy when we first got there, but the restaurant has substantially slowed down before we got our food. I highly recommend the restaurant and I am sure it was just a staffing issue.
The food and service was really good. I went with my coworkers we had 8 total for administrative day. Our appetizers came out very quick but the food took a while to come out. Otherwise I would go back bc the food was good. Everyone enjoyed.
Loved it! the food was great and excellent customer service!
The atmosphere, the overall experience was awesome. The staff was very helpful and friendly. The food was amazing and comparably priced!
I came away very unimpressed. Catfish tacos were bland. Asada tacos were OK. The concept of the crawfish enchiladas sounds awesome but what you get served is just like a bowl of mushy, oily, vaguely crawfish-flavored slop. The margaritas taste like the kind you get at a sporting event: basically just lime juice with a very, very faint whisper of tequila. My 5 year old niece can make a stronger cocktail. Any time I go for tacos and at the end realize the chips and guac was the best part, I know I'll never return, and that's the case here.
Excellent service and food. Please consider Houston Texas as a location for your restaurant. Thank you.
What a great first time! Dinner Saturday evening was fantastic. Tried several tacos and small plates. Will definitely be back. The plantain chips were a great addition to the salsa and guacamole both were fresh and full of flavor. The cocktails were of high quality. The staff was very friendly and attentive to the table.
We loved our food so much! We tried different tacos, the empanadas, a shrimp salad and the street corn. Everything was delicious. On top of that, the chips and salsa they bring you was the best I've ever had!!
Server was old enough to understand service. Took 15 minutes order drinks, 10 minutes after chips. 10 more minutes to order, server check back until after the plates were cleared, got the bill. Great food and enjoyed, poor service.
Also, their was water spills on the floor workers walked by. I don’t really care, as a owner can you say law suit...
The restaurant itself is wonderful, with an open floor and exciting art and decor. The food was spectacular. Do not skip the tuna tostada! I could have made a meal out of these. It is a sharing plate, and only one tostada per serving so next time I will order one for each of us. The tacos were delicious, but somewhat overpriced at $6 for a 2-3 bite taco.
The bathroom is another story entirely. I understand it’s a shared bathroom with the entire building, but I’m sure the restaurant pays substantial rent. The bathroom stall had panels missing behind the toilet paper dispenser so not only could you see into the next stall, but if one desired they could reach straight through. The soap dispenser leaks and the sink is angled such that the soap drizzles over the fascia, but the counter is black rendering it impossible to see until it’s too late. Leaning forward to wash my hands my white shirt became saturated with blue soap. Left with no choice but either return to my table with a blue stain the size of a softball or a wet patch on the front of my shirt I was left unhappy as we were celebrating a special occasion at the restaurant and then heading out for the evening elsewhere.
Food took a while to come out but overall very good
Food was delicious, loved the fried plantains. The salsa was AMAZING , it was not the typical salsa you find in a Mexican restaurant it was soooo good.
Apps and entrées were fantastic. Tequila flight and margaritas, too.
Food is always great. Awesome job aaron’ Sanchez
Everything was so nice. The food and drinks were all so good. The margaritas were the best I've had to date!
Well prepared food. Good service we did not feel rushed.
Excellent food. The sauce complimented my empanada perfectly and the street tacos were amazing
The food was very good. I require gluten free so I couldn't try everything, but my meal was excellent and my companions reported that their food was very good as well. The seating was a bit crowded feeling, with tables set a bit too close together. I did not get a refill of my drink, but the server was friendly and asked for clarification from the kitchen when he was unsure if an item was gluten free. Enjoyed and I would return.
Fantastic experience. Will definitely coming back next time we are in NOLA.
Very high ceilings with no sound absorption, quite noisy when full. Food was quiet tasty with unique twists. Warning: salad portions are huge, could easily make a meal
Loved this restaurant! Being a tourist from Canada, travelling to the US on business is all about finding great eats. I love Aaron Sanchez as i have watched him several times on Chopped. It was great eating here with a great ambiance
This place was amazing right from the start! Loved the decor, and music. Exactly
what we were expecting. The staff were friendly, and helpful. Our waitress brought us a fresh bowl of just chips when I explained I was allergic to the plantains. Drinks were fabulous. I had a Margarita, Husband had a Oaxacan Sunrise. The food was unlike anything I have ever eaten. SO DELICIOUS!!! We had the Yellow Tail Ceviche, Carne Asada Taco, Pescado Taco, Albondigas Taco, and the Street Corn. My husband and I shared the Doberge Torta for dessert, which was the perfect ending to such a great meal! We visited from out of state, and if we are ever back in New Orleans we will definitely be going to Johnny Sanchez again!!!
Food was amazing!!! Totally recommend everything on the menu
The Johnny margarita was fantastic. Needs to be in a bigger glass! We had the queso which was incredible and I highly recommend the cauliflower taco!
