Food was great! Great steak, and the vegetarian risotto they make is amazing.
Great food and service tonight
Service was inconsistent. No lemon with beer and asked twice[Heffenweisen]. Two cocktails forgotten. Ordered potatoes did not come. Desert was free which was nice but overall not the usual Howie superb experience.
Although there are many alternatives for steak in Bellevue, John Howie is the best by far. The Chateaubriand was amazing: cooked to perfection, tender with just enough texture, and a lovely charcoal coating. The wait stuff from the server, the water refilled, and the sommelier were top notch. They made us feel very special on a special day. Why go anywhere else?
Great dinner for our anniversary. Everything was near perfect except the USDA ribeye was almost tough. The filet was outstanding. Will definitely go back but will stick with filet. The tableside serving options are fun.
Normally this is our favorite restaurant but that evening it just didn't live up to our expectations. One person had to send the steak back because it wasn't very good quality.
Way over rated. Ruth Chris, El Gaucho and Daniel’s in Bellevue blows this place away.
I’d say this place and quality of steak and lobster is good at best. For how expensive it is, everything should be excellent and it is not.
I’m sure you’ll do well but by the signs of Thursday night, your business looks like it’s falling off. The place was pretty empty.
Steak was delicious and generous but not cooked to requested doneness. Peppercorn steak was drowning in pepper and sauce, which diminished the taste. Another steak was drowning in butter. Gourmet salts were on the table. They made the steaks too salty (big/giant granules), but without salt the steaks were bland. Sides were unremarkable and not great. Brussel sprouts, for example, were burnt tasting and extra salty, to the point of not looking or tasting like Brussels. Asparagus was drowning in Hollandaise and was otherwise bland. The Hollandaise was good but too much. Macaroni and cheese, bread basket, and lemonade were all delicious (great for kids). Overall, very heavy food. Even dessert was heavy. Service was attentive, especially our waiter. We were really looking forward to this meal but left disappointed.
Excellent restaurant for food, service and location!
Our recent visit was wonderful! The personnel were very service oriented, knowledgeable and attentive. We knew that a few were young people were just starting their career but so conscientious about their responsibilities! Our questions were clearly answered. One of our guests has a shell fish allergy and we felt very confident that there would be no cross contamination! We did have one criticism that there was a large group who was quite noisy (young child/infant, and loud talking and laughter by the 7 or 8 male adults) and seated in the middle of the room rather than to the side in a more private area. Fortunately they were seated when we started dessert and we soon departed. It was an excellent evening enjoyed by all.
While the price tag is extremely high, the service and food quality were topnotch. Our waiter was super - one of our group likes well-done filets, and she usually gets alot of pushback but in this case he smilingly brought her a lovely, well-done, juicy filet! Others wanted very rare, and got exactly what they wanted, too.
The drinks were great, the meat was outstanding and we had a wonderful evening. So when the bill came it was a little easier to take!
Dinning here is what you would expect from its name; you order what you want and it comes to you, I recommend a rare filet.
Went for a special occasion but turned out to be less "magical" than we had hoped. We had tables with kids around us that disrupted the enjoyment of the evening, the tables in the dining room are far too close together and laid out like a more average restaurant. The food was excellent and the service staff, while attentive and knowledgeable, was a bit too "fussy" for our tastes.
Given the prices for the meal and the reputation of the restaurant, we expected an other-worldly experience and it feel far short.
Sit in the bar and you'll have a much better experience.
The service was so poor we will never return. From the moment we came in for our reservation our waiter had an attitude. He was rude, condescending and went out of his way to not be helpful. Our dinner order took over an hour to arrive. Appetizers were delivered with dinner. We did complain to the manager who was amazingly nice and she did comp us a gift certificate which we gave to friends as we will never return. Also they included a mandatory 20 percent gratuity for the waiter to treat us like crap. No thank you.
My husband and I celebrated our anniversary at John Howie. We’ve been here before for dinner before and know to expect a great experience. This time was no different, though I have to say Zach, our Server was absolutely phenomenal. His knowledge and skills and most of all his engaging authentic personality made our experience even better. We will be back soon and I hope we can request Zach as our server.
We were celebrating our anniversary and Sergey and Christina went above and beyond in everything to make our experience great. I was very thrilled with their services and hospitality. It made all the difference
Service and food are always excellent. Food is cooked perfectly as ordered. Flavor/seasoning complements the food and does not overpower it. The staff are like a choreographed machine, bringing and removing plates, refilling drinks, etc. They are professional and never seem to appear at an inopportune time or interrupt your dinner conversation.
Superb food and very attentive service. The attention to detail is amazing and shown in everything they do, such as the heart-shaped candle in our desserts, as it was our anniversary. Highly recommended and will definitely return.
I love a good ribeye. The marbled fat within the ribeye makes it the perfect combination of tender and flavorful steak. I ordered the 45 day ribeye and split it with my wife. The steak was cooked perfectly, but it was rather stringy and there was an excessive amount of fat on the exterior (this is typically trimmed off before serving). I've been to John Howie's steakhouse before, and I will return, but the quality of this steak was NOT equal to the primo price I paid.
Excited my expectations! Absolutely outstanding service and food.
Our dining experience was amazing. We did have to wait a long time for our drinks but the rest of the dining experience well made up for it. The food was amazing and the service was impeccable. We shared the chateaubriand tableside, the tableside Caesar and bananas foster. I highly recommend John Howies over Daniels.
Service is outstanding. Joe V is the best!
It was my wifes birthday i have heard good things about this place. We checked in with the hostess and she did not even acknowledge that we were there for her birthday. Nor did the server until it was time to get the bill he said oh dont you want dessert for your birthday. My wife was so disappointed
My s southwest salad was very bland.
Food and service was great, but it was so loud we literally couldn't hear each other talk.
We were very disappointed by our experience at John Howie Steak on Father's Day. We have always been very happy with this restaurant in the past, but we haven't been there for about 18 months. It has definitely gone down hill. The service was poor and the food was not good. How can there be no flavor on Truffle Fries? We won't be going back.
Wonderful food great, great staff. We will definitely be coming back b
Came here for fiancé’s birthday. Amazing service with high quality food. Japanese A5 is unparalleled. We had a great time. We also saw a ton of other options which are more economically efficient. Will definitely come back especially for more casual dining.
Food was amazing. Dining room was freezing cold.
1st visit to John Howie after living in Seattle for 30 years. JH in Bellevue for 10. Exceptional table service. Wagyu tartar app is killer. Steaks are Very Good but $85-90 for a bone-in filet is pricey. If money is no problem you will have an exceptional meal.
Great service and the steak was amazing! I would highly recommend this restaurant for a romantic dinner.
Fantastic service. One of the better restaurant experiences ever in the Pacific Northwest.
The sommelier is the best in Greater Seattle!
Excellent place to celebrate our son’s 18th birthday!
Amazing food and service. You will pay a lot of money, but there is good value.
We tried to make it for Happy hour, but kind of glad we didn’t. Pretty noisy up front and in the back of the restaurant it was quiet and more intimate.
The tempura fried bacon was delicious and a good way to start out our dining experience. My boyfriend and i then shared the chateaubriand with a side of the truffle butter, truffle fries and wild mushrooms (didn’t really care for the mushrooms) but everything else was amazing. The wait staff were very attentive and friendly. Thank you for a great date night out
Server was rude and snobby
Excellent service, excellent food. Beautiful view.
It’s my husband’s and I’s favorite restaurant. We come from Gig Harbor area just to dine here for any occasion.
John Howie always offers exquisite food, wonderful wine, and a great, comfortable atmosphere.
Waiter was pretty rude. He was snapping at everyone at the table. Even made comments like, well we may not have enough steak since you want a lot, so I don’t know if you can order that. We were a party of 10. Instead I was expecting something more graceful like. Let me double check to make sure we have enough of what you’re looking for. I finally asked if everything was ok since our party was very unhappy with his attitude. He said he was fine and didn’t mean anything by it. I definitely didn’t expect a snappy attitude, especially at those prices. They forgot our wine order all together till we finally asked since our food had already been served. They recognized the mistake and made it right by comping our two bottles of wine, so that was good. During dinner we asked for mayo 3 times for our fries and still nothing. By the time they remembered we were almost done the fries and steak :(. My previous experiences here are typically amazing, so this was definitely not the norm, but it was very disappointing.
