I would give more stars if I could figure out what to do with the gratuity. They charge a 20% service charge which the restaurant says all goes to the restaurant. But then it says, the staff are compensated very well on that basis. I guess that's ok but then they give you a receipt that has a "gratuity" spot left open. So you are left to put a zero on there and sign off. That feels weird and uncomfortable. I mean, I don't want to pay 40% gratuity on a $800.00 bill either. Just makes me feel weird to end the night. I think that should be addressed in some way better.

Service was the standout, just wish the flavor profiles were more developed for the investment. Husband loved the steak ($97 NY), though we both felt the hyped tableside Caesar salad wasn't as good as we hoped, sauteed mushrooms had a chemical taste to them I couldn't put my finger on, and the potato puree was loaded with butter but lacked depth of seasoning flavor. They offer wine at 4 oz. or 8 oz. and the latter costs $24-$34/ 8 oz. for the John Howie Mark Ryan cabs we ordered by the glass. Overall, it was a nice experience but both felt not worth the high cost for what you get.

This is the second time we have been for dinner in a couple of weeks. And though we go there ALL the time for dinner and happy hour, the past two visits the service has been subpar and last night it took 1.5 hours just to get our dinner. And our appetizers took forever to get as well. We also didn't get the little pre-appetizer-like Bisque that we always get. It was just a messy night of service all around. But the food was tasty. I wish the bar had BETTER vodka. Their selections are pretty slim.

We haven’t been here since before Covid and used to really like it. But between the poor service and the disappointing food (when it finally arrived) it really put a damper on my birthday dinner date. The server talked down to us the whole time like we’ve never been to a restaurant before and suggested “the best value” meals to us….It was nearly two hours that our dinner arrived while other tables had gotten theirs, finished and wrapped up their leftovers after being catered to and waited on so many times. They had great service. We were nearly ready to just ask for the check after the soup but nobody bothered to check on us. Two hours later nobody apologized or explained why it had been so long. The steak was surprisingly mediocre and tasteless and we had a bite or two and asked for the check. Wish we would’ve gone somewhere else where service was a priority, especially knowing that it was a birthday. Probably won’t be back. It’s too bad I used to love JH over Daniels broiler but now Daniel far exceeds them and knows what service is.

We celebrated my wife's 80th birthday at John Howie Steak and had a wonderful time as expected. For such an important occasion, I chose a place I knew would deliver and I was not disappointed in my selection. Greeted as we entered the restaurant with a welcoming "Hapoy Birthday" to my wife, we were seated by a window with a view of Mt Ranier and treated to an exceptional evening all the way around. Our server, Emil, was friendly, engaging and attentive throughout the evening. He could not have done a better job explaining the menu and making us feel welcome and comfortable. Good food, good wine, good service...what more can one ask for. Highly recommended! We will definitely go back!!

Great place for a great steak and service. If you’ve never been I suggest you make it point to go,especially for a special engagement. It’s worth it. Clean throughout,the set up is very nice. Ask for a table for (2) alongside the wall as you enter to bigger dining area. You’ll like if it’s date night.

Everything was excellent as usual but the drinks were way way too strong. I usually have the espresso martini and it doesn’t look like it was shaken long enough and it was a double shot which ruined the drink for me. My wife had a vodka, soda with a lemon. It didn’t come with a lemon and it also was a double shot which ruined the drink for my wife.

My wife and most of the other wife's I saw were still in there coats because there was a cold draft in the building. My wife had a beautiful dress and never got to show it. Food was delicious.

The starter was the best part of the meal (habanero shrimp, so tasty), the sides were very good as well. The steak was a bit of a let down tbh. Dry and overcooked on the outside- raw and undercooked in the middle. Kind of disappointing for a steakhouse.

Unfortunately the dinner didn’t reflect on price. We shared a porterhouse steak and it was awful. Full of gristle, truly disappointing. We also shared a caesar salad and normally that’s always has had light lettuce and it was nothing but dark lettuce.

Great food, atmosphere and service. We got a mystery gift card voucher when we dined in December, and were able to use it at our most recent visit in February. Highly recommend the bone marrow, and scallops if available, for appetizer. For mains we like the chateaubriand with the roasted corn and twice baked potato.

This place is just amazing, the food is excellent and the employees are extremely pleasant. We come here every so often when we are looking for a great dinner out. I did 4 out of 5 stars just because the prices are on the high side but you will not be disappointed with the food or the service, just be ready for the price is all. Would recommend to anyone for a special occasion or just wanted an excellent dining experience! Will be back soon.

One of our fav place but I need to take a star away this time. Food just didn’t come up to our expectations as usual. One of our appetizers, bone marrow, we only were able to have some marrows from one out of two.. one had none. Bad cut but they cooked it and served it anyway. Then one of the main dish out of three which was a American wagyu requested to be ‘done’ (personal choice and the other filet to be requested to be ‘medium’ was cooked perfection to be fair) was over cooked as jerky and very charred, almost seemed like oops moment form the grill yet they served. We will still dine there but night of disappointment..

Very good food but it is fairly expensive. I have paid as much for a less-enjoyable meal or experience for sure. Very attentive staff, who knew about our dietary restrictions from our previous, and first time there. Not overly attentive, just the right amount.

Food and service were very good. Everything that we had was excellent (deviled eggs, iceberg salad, apple salad, and filet mignons). Our waiter was always able to explain the menu and recommend options. We were very impressed with the evening. This is a restaurant that is higher priced, so be prepared for that. The only negative, was the noise level was higher than I would have liked.

Everything was great. I have many food allergies and this is the first place I totally felt safe to eat. Not a bad dish in the whole place. Great place for special occasions. I like that the side are family style, so you can share. The place is wonderful and easy to get to.

Waiter was fantastic, steak delicious, and twice baked potatoes were drool worthy. Deep fried bacon was a little rich. Creme Brule was best I have ever had.

I love John Howie, the atmosphere, the food, the experience is something to look forward to so this was the place to celebrate my birthday but this time was a bad experience. OH MY GOSH!!! The bread, it looked a lot different from bread that is usually served at John Howie and I could not cut it to put butter on it as it was super hard and you could hear it sound like a brick on the plate. The waitress even stated the way it looked was not quality. We ordered the tableside caesar and it had much dressing and not a good mixture of dressing. I just had the same salad about a month-and-half ago and it was amazing but this was aweful but I ate it since I was starving and it took so long to bring to us. My friend sent hers back as she was not very impressed with the salad. We ordered starters and they were amazing!!! After a long period of time, we finally get dinner and the steak was aweful. I sent a picture of this steak to a friend and they stated, "is that chocolate ice cream?" and I had to tell them that it was steak. Needless to say, the steak was sent back. The fried brussels sprouts were so overcooked and had so much of the cheese sprinkled on them, not consumable and were sent back. My salmon was not that great and the cauliflower mash had so much citrus flavor which taste more like orange than a lemon and were somewhat yellow/greenish in color and the cherry tomato confit was distasteful and I was too embarrassed to send it back since 90% of our food had been sent back so had it boxed to go as I did not eat it. The waitress stated numerous times about them being hit hard by the competition that was in the area and they were very busy. We understood that and it does take a toll on establishments but it should have nothing to do with the quality of food and the food this night was just aweful. It was my friend's first time and I was so embarrassed as I bragged on the food and the atmosphere. Thank God for appetizers and dessert!!!
