I would like to be able to review the food at this restaurant, however there is only so much effort one is willing to put in to a dining experience. I've rated the food to match the service during our experience. We arrived at our reserved time. The bar was full, but most tables were empty. The front desk was unattended. No worries, we went to the bar. The bartender looked at us standing at the end, made eye contact, then turned back to his conversation. We waited for a few minutes, he continued chatting. We signaled the waitress at the far end of the bar--she too made eye contact and turned back to her conversation. We tried the bartender one more time. Nada. (Please note, the staff wasn't busy--at no time during this 5-10 minute period was a drink poured or a table checked on--just disinterested.) Even my husband who is much more patient about such things than I am walked out angry. We were looking for a decent neighborhood place--thanks to John Doe, we found the Smith.

Good pub menu ; good pub food; good selection on draft. Easy feel to the place and noise level meant conversation was completely manageable. What more do you need in a pub??!!

Showed up early for an early dinner, no problem. Super nice people, very friendly and accommodating. Good bar food, good beer selection. Moscow mule was so-so. Pretty decorations for the holidays too!

I found John Doe to be a fun place as a drinking spot -- and the bartenders and wait service was very friendly and accommodating. However, I think Open Table needs to be more clear when presenting it as a restaurant. It was very much a bar scene where the food was secondary. The good was good bar fare, and I had reviewed the menu and was prepared for that. But the noise level was off the charts for a table of friends trying to catch up. DJ etc. I would go back for drinks but not for dinner plans.
