Joe's Crab Shack - Fairfax
I took my entire family of ten to eat and my server treated us like we were the only people there. Very refreshing and too really take care of my disabled father-in-law was a treat. Thanks!
first time there! Sharon made our experience very welcoming . Even tho we came at 9pm, she treated like we were the first of the day.
The food wasn't all that for the price, the crab was good but corn was soggy and the sausage was yuck. My husband didn't care for his steak, service was good and friendly. This was our visit to this chain and I was expecting more for the bang. I was disappointed:(
We ate at Joe's Crab Shack at 4:00 pm on Saturday. It was not many people in the restaurant.
When we got our food we didn't get the side of fries that we ordered. We had to ask for ketchup, garlic butter and silverware. It took more than 5 minutes to get everything. In the meantime we could not eat our food. I hate to eat food that isn't hot. But we had no choice.
I specifically ordered garlic butter on my steamed shrimp and also ordered garlic butter on the side. I got neither. It was not cooked in garlic butter and they brought me a garlic broth on the side. Then I asked to just bring me garlic in a separate container and melted butter in a separate container. They took a long time and finally brought me garlic butter (mixed together - not separate). Then a few minutes later I got more garlic broth.
The food just doesn't have much taste and the service is awful. We will not be back.
We’ve been enjoying Joe’s for many years. While it’s never been great food it’s worked well when the group has a hankering for crab legs. The last couple of visits have been less enjoyable as the food quality has declined while prices seem to have increased. Last visit was really disappointing. Crab that was overly salty, corn that was mushy and frozen (and served ice cold TWICE) and a price tag that ended up to be almost $175 with tip for 4 people (that’s right - and no alcohol!!). While the service was good and our server apologetic, Joe’s just isn’t worth it anymore. Sorry.
The waiter was good. The food was very good. The noise made it the place pretty miserable. They have an indoor playground but there's no wall between the eating area and the playground. On the day of our visit there were several children screaming at the top of their lungs. We were unable to have a conversation and we were not near the kids. On the way out I mentioned it to some waiters They rolled their eyes and said that was a common complaint. It would have been great if it wasn't for that.
The drinks here were terrible. Most of them were watered down. I returned my Bloody Mary because it was just tomato juice. Stick to beer and wine.
The food itself was good! Although the corn cake out cold and they got my order wrong.
I think this place could be great. Maybe it was an off day? Or, maybe the management is lacking.
Good steamed seafood. My only complaint is with the corn in the steam basket...very mushy. Too bad...it's corn season, afterall!!
Terrible service! I am not sure what happened, but it seemed like all of the staff had quit suddenly. We were seated promptly, and drink orders were taken, but looking around 3 of 6 tables hadn't been cleared of old dishes in our area (and they were never cleared during our time there!). Our appetizers took 45 minutes to come out (steamed shrimp, cooks in 5 minutes), and dinner didn't come out until 45 minutes after that! When dinner did come, the poor server tried to put her tray on the (uncleared) table behind us, balanced it poorly, and one whole dinner crashed to the floor, breaking the dishes and ruining the crab legs.
In addition, one whole meal was MISSING from the tray. 10 minutes later we had to ask the manager for our missing meal. When the food did arrive, it was very tasty, but not worth 90 minutes of total wait time and the feeling that we - and the tables all around us - had been totally neglected. The restaurant wasn't even that busy...very sad.
Went here for my birthday, was not impressed. It was loud and the wait staff was mediocre. They took a long time with the food, got my wife's order wrong and then took an additional 20 minutes to correct it. They didn't even offer a comp dish or free app. Would not visit again.
Restaurant did not have my table as requested ready upon arrival. Host stated computer issues but knew party size when we arrived. Service once seated at table per requirements was slow and intermittent. Server got orders correct but wait time for food and check pick-up was significantly delayed affecting the dining experience.
Dennis was very good and the food was great. 10 of us and got our food fast
After an hour long drive, my whole experience at the restaurant was well worth the wait. The staff checked up on us multiple times (with good periods of time inbetween) and the shady outside area had a nice view of the highway with surrounding trees (we love to car-watch). The building itself was huge, and since we ate around 3pm there weren't a lot of people so we had a nice, fairly-private meal together. They play area they had for kids was located in the back of the restaurant too, kind of out of sight but I think that works to it's advantage when it's busy and loud (keeps noise away from most tables). The seafood was some of the best we ever had (better than Red Lobster at least), and the portions were just perfect for filling us (but not overdoing it as well). The fact they had free wifi too allowed us to play our own music outside, which really made the meal special for us.
We was celebrating our anniversary . Our waitress was wonderful , very attentive , food was excellent , loved it , we'll be back
The crab legs were small and tasteless.
Came in with a party of 5 -- two adults and three kids. Not a large group, but hostess team argued for 5 minutes about where they would seat us. We all ordered various entrees. My wife asked for vegetables instead of rice; they brought rice. My seafood all tasted pretty bland.
I had also ordered a bowl of chowder, which still hadn't arrived. Waitress never came back to check on us, so she had no idea I hadn't gotten the soup. Another server brought the meals, so I asked him to cancel the soup. No less than two other servers came out in a few minutes, each bearing a bowl of soup. Go figure.
Our waitress acted like she didn't care about anything at all, and as we were leaving, my wife told the manager what had happened.
I wouldn't recommend eating here unless you value price over all else.
Had a great time. It’s been a long time since I’ve been here and they lowered the price and upped the quality from the last time I’ve been. (Why I stoped going). Can’t wait to go back.
Always a great place to eat with family and friends. Thoroughly enjoyed the crabs as usual. Wished it was closer, but worth the drive.
Very good meal for the money.
Really enjoyed it. Our location in Gaitgersburg closed down and this location is even better. Kevin our server was really great.
Was mother's day so of course busy but I did make a reservation 2 weeks out for 6:30. I did this because I have a 85 year old grandmother who can't stand for long periods. We got there at 6:20 and guy at front told us we would have to wait 15 mins. OK understand can't predict how long someone will take. 20 mins or so went to see how much longer because all seats for waiting were taken so my worst fear my grandmother had to stand. When I asked the lady the man never even put my name down for us being there and waiting. She was very helpful and friendly wish I had gotten her name and got us seating within the next 10 mins. The food was good, our waitress was also working the bar so sometimes it was a little difficult getting her attention other than that probably won't go on a busy day but would recommend it.
I drove from Md with my family to celebrate Mother's Day. Unfortunately, the Joe's Crab Shack that was near me in Greenbelt, Md has closed. I must say it was DEFINITELY worth the drive. I enjoyed the food and love the menu at Joe's. I will definitely be returning soon.
It was my daughter’s 21st Birthday & we decided to go to Joe’s to celebrate. We had an excellent evening!!!
Lexi, our waitress, was awesome & provides exceptional service
Great seafood, friendly and fast service. Always consistent and good crabs, shrimp and other seafood. Service has always been good. It can get crowded, so be sure to make a reservation. My only complaint would be the noise from the "kids play area" in the back. Request a table up front or at the bar to avoid the noise.
As far as seafood goes, I’ve had much better. We ordered Mac and cheese for our toddler and it was basically Easy Mac. Families with small children aren’t always the fastest, but our waitress and the manager both stopped by after they gave us the bill (and we paid) and made it seem like they were in a hurry to turn the table even though there were plenty of available tables.
JCS indicated wide availability on OT Saturday night. So, we signed up for a table about an hour later than our planned arrival. When we got there, the hostess (who seemed overworked) told us that they had not incorporated any OT reservations into their reservation system and we were placed at the bottom of the wait list. :0(
We asked to speak with the manager, but even after our waiting 15 minutes, one never showed up. And in the 'insult to injury' category: As we left, I checked the restaurant on OT again. It still showed wide availability when there obviously was none. Zero Stars!
Crab nachos and cocktails were the only thing that was really good. I did like the service. My $28 steampot was not nearly worth the $28. The “clams” were the size of my smallest fingernail. Not a good value at all. The crab cakes were sub par. The acoustics are terrible inside. It was extremely loud; we weren’t even that near the kid zone playground & it was extremely noisy. Dropped almost $100 to include tip. So not worth it. Won’t be coming back.
First time visiting this location....food and service was great....will definitely go back soon
This is a good place for people who want lots of food in a fun atmosphere. The quality is what you would expect from a big chain, but the service was very good and we had an enjoyable lunch.
Our Waitress Alysha was awesome, super friendly, checked on us just the right amount of times. The bucket of Snow crab legs I got were cooked perfectly, it was a great way to start my Birthday weekend!
We enjoyed our visit to Joe's as we hadn't been there in a while. The food was plentiful and by in large cooked well. The side salad was humongous. The shrimp and fish were done just right and the coating wasn't overly thick. Our server did an outstanding job considering there was a large group that he was also helping out. All in all, a pleasant evening meal.
