Joe Fortes has been specializing in classic, American cuisine since 1985. The turn-of-the-century inspired dining room features 30-foot high ceilings and six unique dining venues that include our Rooftop Garden. Director of Culinary, Wayne Sych, and Executive Chef, Ryan Green, prepare each dish with a focus on natural flavours and features the finest ingredients from Pacific Northwest farmers, fishermen, and other food artisans.                                                                                                                           The building and the environment are unique and exciting. We booked months in advance for a big anniversary as we were celebrating in Vancouver. It looked like the right place for a special dinner. Atmosphere is cool but VERY NOISY at all times. We were informed upon arriving that there was a 2 hour table SITTING time so dont stay too long. (???) My wife was so excited to be there but soon found out they had no Pinot Grigio (???) We waitied 65 minutes for our food after ordering and the steak was rare although medium was ordered. Seafood linguine was SOOOO heavy with cream and the prawns were tough. Bernaise was like paste. We thought for the price and the hype that the FOOD would at least be excellent. Not even our server asked us how the food was. Service was weak and the Food was weaker. The hostess then walked around scoping tables and giving looks to make sure we knew our 2 hours was almost up. Barely finished our food and had to get out so they could turn the tables quickly. Nobody acknowledged our anniversary even though notes were left several times with the reservation. All in all the food and service at our hotel and other local spots was far superior to this place. They obviously care more about squeezing every dollar out of their reputation than they do about their customer's experience. HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT.

                                                                                                                          Came here for Father’s Day as my dad loves seafood. I’ve been to Joe Fortes for brunch and it’s always been been a great experience for both the food and service. We had mussels and crab cake to start. The mussels came with one small toasted bread. I asked for another one. I feel our server forgot about it as i had to remind him twice (by then we had finished the mussels). He came back saying he had to “fight for this item to come out”.. hmm. For mains we ordered chicken waffles and the steelhead trout we ordered were well received. I had the lobster benedict and it was a disappointment. I remember in the past how much lobster chunks there were and this time around it wasn’t even comparable. The food also came in lukewarm. The patio is being “renovated” but when we asked our server he said nothing is being done. That’s strange as Joe has one of the best rooftop patios in the city - and considering it is summer you’d think they would have this issue sorted out asap. Finally bill areobed. For a small toast - we were charged $4.00, one that we wait for a good 15 minutes. I feel this should’ve been comped as a goodwill gesture, especially for restaurant of that calibre.

                                                                                                                          I have travelled extensively all around the world, and I think this is some of the best food I’ve ever tasted. The ambience was fantastic, although we’d have loved it if the piano player had played longer. Our server was excellent, really got what we needed (sharing plates so our group of 4 could all taste each others entrees). All we had was bread and 1 starter, and 4 entrees and 1 dessert, the portions were generous - so so tasty and we actually had trouble deciding what to order. Will come again….or move in!

She was fun, a great communicator and the meal was well timed, excellent quality as well as a few laughs along the way. Thank you for making our son’s graduation celebration a success!
