   Are you going to Montreal? Then you need to eat here. End of story. Highlight meal of my entire trip, and it's not close.

   The hostess and servers were very friendly and attentive. The restaurant was incredibly hot, there was no AC or open doors/windows to cause a breeze. The tables were small and everything felt cramped. The food wasn't exceptional, especially given the expensive prices. All the food was drenched in sauce, you couldn't properly taste the meat. For one of the top rated restaurants in Montreal, it was severely overrated, wouldn't return.

   Exceptional service and meal. So happy we were able to get in on short notice, and our seats at the bar were perfect. Nathalia, (hope that's right) our server / bartender was such a pleasure to chat with. To start we had the seafood platter, savoury eclair appy, and as our mains, the lobster spaghetti and filet mignon. Cocktails were delicious.

   After great expectations based on reading the Joe Beef cookbook years ago and generally great public reviews, we were very disappointed. Spastic and inattentive service. Questionable escargot. Inedible French fries (how??). Great beets and flank steak with peppercorn sauce. So much food left uneaten.

   I hope it was an off night. I’ll list time stamps that I began taking note of, due to what we felt was an excessive wait. We were sat at 8pm, we got our drinks at ~8:15pm. We had to flag a hostess to let the server know we were ready to order food at 8:20pm. We then had to flag down a server (as the host never returned), and ordered food at 8:25pm. Our first item of food, oysters, came at 8:46pm. Complimentary bread and pickle appetizer came at 8:55pm, along with acknowledgment from the server that food was taking a little long. Croquettes came at 9:04pm and the rest of our appetizers, snails and bone marrow custard, at 9:07pm. At 9:51pm we finally got the lobster spaghetti. We finished our meal and paid at 10:15pm. Oysters were delicious, except for shell bits in one (it happens, not the worst). Croquettes were solid, snails were not very good, bone marrow custard was very good, lobster spaghetti was fine. You can decide if that is worth $200 + tip.

   Première fois chez Joe Beef, j'ai pris le spaghetti au homard. C'était bon mais trop cher pour ce que c'est à mon humble avis. L'ambiance était bonne, mais trop bruyante. Le service était impeccable.

   Excellent porterhouse steak! The staff is amazing and provided great recommendations. Will definitely go back to Joe Beef.
