This relatively expensive establishment aspires to greatness, and has the potential to reach its goal. The staff was friendly but not as knowledgeable about the food and wine as would be expected for a restaurant of this caliber. The main courses were fabulously conceived, but the execution of one item on each plate--undercooked angelotti on one, slightly tough duck on the other--kept us from giving the dishes a "5 out of 5". And coffee came a bit cooler than optimal. I would give the food overall a 4.5 if that were possible in this review.
Manager presence on floor but would be better if they spoke to tables
Service was friendly, a bit slow although place was busy
Needs to be more knowledgeable about the food
Desserts were excellent
Calamari a top dish and the foi pasta with squash
Solid 4 Stars 5 If above adjusted
Another excellent meal at The Oyster Bar. The oysters were bracing like they had just been pulled out of the water. The squid appetizer and my pork chop entree were both delicious. We will be back again soon!
Dinner with friends
We have been here twice for Breakfast/brunch and have not been disappointed yet! LOVE the CHIVE SCRAMBLE!!! Great atmosphere for a casual Sunday morning!
Our second time to Jockey Hollow. The food is just amazing! Much better than anything in my hometown of Ridgewood! It’s pricey, but worth it!
This is second time my husband and I have been there. I had the burger which was cooked perfect and my husband had the trout which was delicious. We will definitely be back
We sat in the Vail Bar which was a nice change of venue. The chairs are not that comfortable but we still lingered and enjoyed the company. The autumn salad was a mix of arugula and squash. Tasty. The entrée included pork chops. Large portion but a little dry. Vegetarian option entrée was enjoyed. Dessert included an assortment of homemade sorbets. Each was served with a shortbread cookie for a nice touch.
The oysters are good but the rest of the food is average at best. New York prices and NJ quality.
The food was fine, the service was OK, the only thing exceptional with the price
Food was terrific, service was very good. Waitress never brought us our drinks, think she just spaced, but it was fine as we enjoyed the food, the ambience, and were pressed for time.
Entrees weren’t very good.
We walked into the restaurant - were greeted less than warmly by 3 hostesses in front of a messy dreadful bookcase - the plaster was also peeling off the walls by the elevator buttons.
Sat in the bar area and decided to forgo our table and sit at the bar since one person at the table would be staring at the wall.
Bartenders were fantastic! So gracious and welcoming, it looks like they make fantastic specialty drinks. The food was pretty good - just not as elevated a cuisine as I had expected.
Really disappointing as frequent diners. The 3 hostesses exude attitude and act like they are doing us a favor by greeting us. Attempted to seat us in the corner by the waiter station when the restaurant was empty. Waiter was pleasant enough but far from attentive as dishes from our courses sat far too long. Food was overdone, likely due to sitting under a warming lamp. Squash salad was a big pile of arugula with the squash buried underneath and very sparse dressing. Used to be good but has slipped significantly.
Great place to have lunch!
Food was cold when it arrived. My client ordered chicken on his salad and it showed up on a separate plate after the meal was over.
We had a 6:45 reservation. I told both the hostess and the server that we were attending the show next door at 8pm. We ordered promptly and our appetizers arrived within a few minutes. Once the appetizers were removed, we sat for over half an hour waiting for our entrees. We were told several times that our food would be out shortly. At 7:30 we were told our food was being plated. We asked for the check so we could pay it in advance since we were running late. We paid the check in full. . At 7:50 our entrees still
Had not arrived. We stood up, got our jackets, told the hostess what happened and left without eating. The manager took our number to work our the credit the following day.
I eat at your establishment 2-3 times a month. I won’t be back for a while if ever. There are many options in Morristown. This service is unacceptable. And for the record... the Oyster Bar was not busy.
The service team from start to finish was friendly and very helpful! The food as well did not disappoint! Particularly the Little Gem salad— very creative and tasted delicious!
Great neighborhood restaurant to stop in for a cocktail and burger/small plate or to go In to celebrate a special occasion! Love the vibe! Love the food! Best in town!
Great lunch. The new chef AJ has stepped up his game. He was formerly at La Toute Heure in Cranford.
Tables in oyster bar area are way too close to each other. I could hear everything the people to the left and right of me were saying, which made my dinner very impersonal. Also made the meal very uncomfortable.
We had dinner last Saturday night, we went early the place was empty. We ordered, and all was well until I got my duck. It tasted great however it was luke warm. I sent it back and helped eat my wife's scallops, which were great. The chef sent out a wagyu beef appetizer, which i thought was very professional and the proper way to deal with a dish that was sent back to the kitchen. Thanks Chef
Jockey Hollow was fantastic! Some of the best and cleanest oysters. We had two different pastas that were tasty and fresh. Farm to table ingredients were top notch. Finally, best perfect Manhattan ever!
There were three of us dining that night. And this is the second time we were jammed in to a small table for two in the entryway to the Oyster Bar. It was a busy night and full but I made the reservation months in advance and expected more. The service was inconsistent and we had to wait a long time between courses. We even waited a long time for our drinks. One of us had wine and the second glass was half a pour. The service and wait time was so bad that our server, Hunter, compted is a round of drinks. At these prices and after all these years in business, Jockey Hollow should be running like a well oiled machine.
Amazing food and service. Thank you chris and team
I come to Jockey Hollow a few times a year for brunch. The brunch menu is by far one of the best in the area and that's saying quite a lot as there are a lot of competitively good brunch places in Morristown. The grounds are beautiful and it is equally stunning whether you eat inside or outside. It's an experience that would make any meal feel special.
My husband and I have come here numerous times because we love the food and the atmosphere. However, the service is always just OK. Our servers are never really attentive and to have to wait about 10-15 minutes before being greeted and our drinks order taken is about average each time we go.
Our recent visit was our worst service yet unfortunately. It took a very long time to be acknowledged once we were sat, and again a long time for drinks and our oysters to come. We had about 3-4 different people wait on us so I’m not sure who our server actually was. The most disappointing part was the fact that we had to wait an hour and a half for our entrees which was just pasta. It felt like our server (or at least the girl who took our food order), had forgotten to actually put our order in. Not only that, but it took over and hour for someone to even acknowledge the fact that our food was taking a very long time and come and talk to us about it.
They ended up comping 2 of our drinks but it just wasn’t a pleasant experience and we aren’t coming back anytime soon.
The bar tenders are amazing. Drinks are a work of art. Incredible meal from start to finish. Highlight was the oysters. Service was outstanding.
We sat outside on a lovely night! However, disappointed in the service and food. I ordered wine and received such a "short pour" compared to the other patrons (guess it depends on who is serving). I noticed several runners/servers being confused on which tablea to attend (walking around with plates of food not knowing where to serve). When our food came out it was well done and we ordered medium. Flagged down the server and she agreed it was over cooked. So I had to sit there while my companion ate, disappointing. In the meantime tried to get another round of drinks. Again confusion on which table ordered the drinks. My food was brought out and now I ate alone. For such highly rated restaurant it seemed like amateur hour. PS nothing gratis for our dinner disaster. They didn't seem to care...…….
Great place for any occasion! Excellent service. Menu always of excellent quality
lobster roll was the worst I have ever had and I have had many, many lobster rolls. the lobster was cut so small and there was so little that you could not even taste the lobster.
Food was outstanding and great variety. The big differentiation during this experience was the service. This was a business meal with a group of 7. For some reason, the pasta entrees were significantly delayed. The wait staff held the other entrees until we asked for the entrees because the wait was so long and one member of the party had to leave. The manager proactively provided an immediate salad entree for that guest and comped the cost of al entrees and provide one serving of every dessert on the menu complimentary so the group could sample all desserts and comped the coffee. Although a restaurant is this caliber should never have a delay in getting meals prepared, at least they proactively did something significant to offset the inconsistency and apologized without us having to have to ask or complain.
The food was very good. The service was not what I was expecting for a top notch eatery. They forgot to bring items, could not accurately describe dishes, and did not take into consideration our time constraints. Our food took a long time to come out and after we waited they let us know that one dish took a long time to prepare. We would have happily ordered something else if we knew it would have come out faster.
The service was attentive but not overbearing. The food was all fresh and very well made. The Carbonara was excellent. I would recommend going here.
The $16 heirloom tomato salad had 2 small slices of an heirloom tomato, and the rest were tasteless cherry tomato’s. The clams came with a vinegar and Chile pepper topping and no cocktail sauce. Wouldn’t have ordered it if it was described appropriately.
Pre-concert meal. Great location, facility, service, wine & food selection, food execution ! Thank You !!!
Inside smelled strongly of disinfectant, so decided to eat outside. Unfortunately, it was early afternoon when delivery trucks pulled up in front of us..another unpleasant smell! As we usually do, my husband and I shared our lunches. The lobster roll was skimpy and the use of tarragon overpowering. The burger was ok, but the roll with caraway seeds was not a plus. The French fries were not crispy, and had a weird powdery coating which was supposed to be salt and vinegar I guess. Service was good, but I doubt I would go back.
We had higher hopes for this place. The ambiance and building is super cool- it looks like a setting worthy of a James beard or possibly Michelin level chef. It fell short, however, on all counts. Service was a cluster of kids running around with no sense of timeliness or hospitality. Our waitress was working very hard but it was clear she was under-supported and likely new - the food was ALMOST there, but lacking. Small plates:
Mussels flavor complex was constructed well, but they were over cooked well before being chilled. This leads me to believe they were either prepped earlier en masse or they really just don’t understand seafood. It’s a toss up.
The burratta peach starter was decent but the burratta wasn’t properly brined. I also felt it very odd that it didn’t come with any bread. Neither did the beef tartare
The beef tartare was prepped minced without any cohesiveness. The flavor was there but that was about it. Again, not served with anything.
We ordered a break basket.
For mains, the duck breast was cooked well, cut wrong. It’s accompanying corn bread was good but overly dry. Corn/jalapeño side was good.
Pork chop was ... sub par.
As was the two pasta dishes my colleagues ordered.
All in all- I wish we could’ve liked
This place more. With better staff and kitchen management I think it has great potential. I wouldn’t, however, visit again.
Superb service, wonderful atmosphere, and amazing food. Absolutely worth it
Service was amazing. My date and I sat in the patio section and the view was great. Kim (our server) was very helpful with the menu. Everything came out in an appropriate manner. Food was delicious! The manager Michael came up to check on the table and to be sure we were enjoying our time there. Would definently come again!
