The menu and service reflect the warmth and attention of being a house. Some regulars say "it has the look and feel of Greenwich Village on the Upper West Side"
We feature fresh pasta, artisanal pizza & other great Italian staples, like chicken scarpariello, eggplant parmigiana, & lasagna. We have many vegetarian and gluten free options as well.
Joanne is conveniently located near Lincoln Center, the Beacon Theater, Museum of Natural History & Central Park.

We would recommend, with a few caveats.....
Food was good, but pricey.
Service was inattentive.
My wife was disappointed that only a part of her leftover entree was packed to take home.
Food was good. Restaurant had an odd smelling bad odor. Lipstick on the water glasses. Not going back.
The food was great. The problems were service and comfort. It was freezing in there and the waitstaff sad they would put on the fireplace to warm the room. Not in advance, when I complained. They refused to put the heat on. As an aside, the fireplace was puny and couldn't possibly heat the space and the glass doors on it were shut anyway when a couple was seated in front of it. Ridiculous. Our waiter was mildly negligent.
Everyone there was extremely polite and enjoyable. The food was flavorful and delicious. The mahi mahi was incredible. The chicken parm was amazing and somehow felt very light. Soup and salad were great. Bar drinks were very well made.
Loved the food and server! I now have my neighbor hood go to for fun easy dinners‼️
Great Italian comfort food.
Nice selection of wines by the glass
location, ambience, staff and food. All fantastic and to top it off - great value for money. Love going back here.
Ambiance was perfect, food was exceptional, service was spot on and loved the Gaga wine! What is in that cannoli? Best one I've ever had and that's saying something!!!
Great service, comfortable place, nice menu, food was good. Quick meal before the opera.
A good and reasonably priced Lincoln Center alternative. A friend said that it reminded her of the red sauce places she knew growing up in Syracuse, NY. Good and basic southern Italian, fair prices, and friendly service.
Great restaurant for romance or spending time with friends. The food was delicious and the staff were very nice.
If I ever go back to NYC I would go back in a heartbeat. Served with a smile and staff were very pleasant. A nice relaxing dining experience.
Visited on January 18. Was seated under a cold air return duct. Felt like air conditioning on me off and on the whole time
Food was amazing and prices were reasonable! Will for sure be going back next time I’m in NYC!
Joanne's homemade gravy is the BEST! Had the lemon chicken with artichokes, so tender and delicious. Not huge plates, just perfect. Chocolate mousse dessert, heavenly!
I found the food here yo be very mediocre. That bad kind of Italian American food. Terrible tomato sauce and eggplant that was too bready and undercooked. Place seemed a little grundgy and in need of some TLC. Would not return.
Key points to consider:
Seating is very tight to the point of uncomfortable due to very small tables barely accommodating the dishes and which are placed unusually close to each other. Private conversations are open to those seated near you.
My pasta with eggplant meatballs was good but overwhelmed with too much sauce, such that when I finished the pasta, half the bowl was filled with sauce.
The grilled shrimp salad was OK but the shrimp was overcooked and dry. The $27 charge was not a good value.
Atmosphere was pleasant and service was efficient, professional and courteous.
This not a 'cozy' restaurant but the food was quite good except the foccacia served was stale. Nice cocktails and a good wine list, even if purchasing by the glass. The servers were very pleasant and attentive (not overly so, which is good). With so many Italian restaurants to choose from I am not sure we would return here.
Fantastic accommodating service. I was running a bit late for my reservation, and I called ahead and they let come to the restaurant 15 minutes after my initial time, which was much appreciated for the birthday I was celebrating!
Excellent food. The pizza was delicious. Great staff. Super kind and pro.
Joann’s was everything I imagined!!!
Food was delicious, so glad we choose your restaurant!!!
We will definitely be back on our next trip to NYC!!!
The food was good but overpriced.
Wow!!! We had an outstanding dinner today. We came here to celebrate my birthday. The food is incredibly amazing and our server was wonderful. She even broke out and sang when she gave me my cake. We will be back and highly recommend a visit here!!
Loved it! Great experience
Food was delicious and wait staff very personable and efficient. Can’t wait to go back.
It was lovely
The service at Joanne was impeccable and the food was divine. I immediately felt warm and welcome - the environment and decor was especially cosy! Will absolutely recommend to friends and family who visit NYC.
This was our third time dining at JOANNE.
We have enjoyed it every time and will be returning on our next visit to NYC.
Spaghetti meatball was delicious, the buttery chicken artichoke with gluten free pasta,on demand, was very good.
Very expensive for food which tastes nothing special I can get better Italian food in my home town in the UK
By far the most disappointing meal in a long time notwithstanding it being new years eve. A missed opportunity to go somewhere better. We were seated in the open area outside which was fine but at a rickety high table. The pork ragu was poor with overcooked pasta, the tiramisu - we've had so much better. Before we had finished our wine, the heat outside was switched off along with some lights with the waitress stating loudly that they could close up as soon as we were all gone. Appalling. A long way from the authentic tratorria in Italy. So disappointing and a missed opportunity to go elsewhere. Nothing more to be said.
New Years Eve
Great atmosphere with great service and hospitality
Came here because I am a huge Lady Gaga fan and wanted to eat at her parents restaurant. I was disappointed with the food. I thought it would be better. Location, ambiance and service was great.
Pretty place. Friendly service. Food just average. Disappointing.
We enjoyed dining at Joanne’s where it was relaxed and quiet as opposed to the night before, dining in Little Italy where it’s hectic, noisy and they churn you out as quickly as possible.
Went to Joanne for a birthday celebration. The food, music, atmosphere and everything else was wonderful.
Quality of food has diminished since last visit. Caesar Salad did not taste at all like a Caesar salad and the meatballs were tasteless. Sauce was good, though.
Always have to pop in here for an authentic Italian meal in a cozy warm environment.
We went on a family dinner. The service was not so good, I ordered a drink for my dad and it took 20 minutes for us to get it even when I re asked the waiter for it 2 more times.
We ordered a rib eye medium cooked and it was almost well done.
The salmon, Mac and cheese and chicken parm are very tasty. Good portions.
Ambiance was good for me because they kept the music on the lady Gaga’s pop side. Not so noisy. We got a booth table and the arm space was not so big.
They should have perhaps a small waiting area, we arrive 15 mins before our reservation and had to wait outside.
Overall, we would definitely come back again. Just improve the service please.
