The restaurant is very quaint and old school, which I love. We were fortunate to be seated on the patio which made the experience even better. Our dinners were delicious and we thoroughly enjoyed the experience on our last night in N.Y.C. I highly recommend a stop in for dinner or a sip of wine at the bar!
What a charming little restaurant! The service was wonderful, food was delicious. I'd definitely return to Joanne and recommend to anyone looking for an Italian restaurant in UWS!
The waitress was not friendly, and got sarcastic when we asked how the meatballs were. Overall I could have went to a local spot, which would have provided better service and food for less.
With kids, yes, because kid friendly
Food okay, but very expensive for typical Italian food ,but not typical italian homestyle portions. These portions were small in size and we left hunfry
Firstly we get there and they sit us at a dark table. No light or anything so I say hey there are 20 empty tables with light can we sit there. No response. Then the guy who approached us said look up the light burned out- I said exactly ! Can we sit there? “NO” 2 meatballs for 14$ when they aren’t fresh, I saw the packaging when I went to the bathroom past the kitchen and then the caprese was made of say old tomatoes and really sloppy mozzarella. Ok then we order a pitcher of Joanne’s specialty white sangria ! Thinking fine $44 let’s do it. It was horrible wine with ice and bar fruit (cherries and limes and lemon and 2 sliced oranges) it was so watered down we were shocked ! So the pizza. You can’t mess that up!!!? No!? Well it’s frozen crusted pizza not brick oven like we were told and the topping and everything reminded me of a frozen pizza from a grocery store marked “supreme” let me state that we didn’t KNOW that Lady Gaga and her family own it. But knowing this now I’m shocked that there isn’t some sort of worry for impression. We saw out waitress twice and when the bearded guy brought us the pizza he was trying to place the pizza on table with dirty plates on it and I suggested “let’s get rid of them” my friend got a clean plate for his pizza. I had to ask and it was handed to me from 5 feet away!!? Service was TERRIBLE Food TERRIBLE and listen if it’s a Lady Gaga family owned place. They need new management! It’s horrible ! Oh and we saw the Costco tags on the desserts. Classy take them off if they are in the display case!!? Wow!
While the tables are very close together, the overall atmosphere made it acceptable. Food and service were both very good. We shared the antipasto salad which is definitely big enough for two people. Entrees of chicken Marsala were quite good. Gluten free pasta available and the martinis were perfect. We will return
The food is reminiscent of any Italian grandmother’s kitchen on Sunday afternoons. The meatballs were and amazing start to our meal. My friend got the truffle Alfredo which was to die for and I got the chicken Milanese which was equally delicious. Overall the entire experience was amazing and we can’t wait to go back
The ravioli were bland. The sauce was watery.
However the fettuccini pork ragu and chicken Marsala were delicious.
Our first time in NYC ❤️
Good food drinks and service
The food is excellent, the sauce is over the top delicious. A busy Fathers Day so the servers were annoyed and impatient. Understandable!
We had a wonderful experience at JoAnne Trattoria. The ambiance was lovely, we really enjoyed sitting outside on the patio. The service was perfect and we thoroughly enjoyed the food. Only down side was the slightly smaller than expected portions. Would probably go back again.
Haven't been in about a year. I remember the food being much better. Tonight it was uncomfortably warm inside.
Ein sehr schöner Abend.
If I lived in NYC, I would be here every week. Food was delicious and the service was great. To top it off, the cannoli was how it should be, with a hint or orange. Perfect evening!
We heard a lot about this place so maybe we expected more. The food was ok certainly nothing to rave about. There are so many wonderful Italian restaurants in Manhattan, but (sorry to say) this is not one of them. Skip the hype and take yourself (and your checkbook) to a better location and experience.
A gem on the UWS, try it soon.
Cute restaurant with a great atmosphere. Food was very good. We really enjoyed it
Delicious- great food, service, and cozy, lovely environment. Recommend for a comfortable, delicious Italian meal. We’ll be back! Thank you!
Excellent and friendly.
Loved the atmosphere, very clean, and great food. The only thing was we had a table that wobbled. Would definitely go back!!
Fantastic meal and service! Loved dining on the patio.
We usually love Joanne for traditional Italian food. This time around we went for pizza which was just ok. It came out lukewarm and the crust was doughy. This could be due to the service being a bit slow this evening. It seemed maybe they had a larger crowd outside on the patio and I think service suffered inside. We will go back, just not for the pizza.
Excellent seafood salad,service and atmosphere!
Lovely intimate restaurant. Excellent service and delicious food. The hangar steak was amazing!
This place is a gem. Casual, home-style Italian cooking. The servers are all nice, and make great recommendations. The food is terrific - generous portions, prepared perfectly. In nice weather there is seating in the backyard. A perfect neighborhood spot, but for those who are not in the area it is still worth traveling to for a wonderful, modestly priced meal.
We sat in the garden which is always a treat in NYC. Food was solid. Loved the Rice Balls. Would go back for sure.
Great meal. Ate in the garden on a beautiful evening. Lemon chicken with artichokes was excellent. As was the chicken Marsala. One of our neighborhood favorite places.
The front vestibule smelt very offensive upon walking into the restaurant. After noting this to the staff, no effort was made to ventilate or remedy the situation as we walked out of the restaurant later and it was as bad as originally noted. Other customers walking out were commenting on the same smell, some noting it was a dirty, kitty litter smell. There was a dingy, basement smell throughout the interior of the restaurant. Grade is “pending” which is jarring at best but can sometimes be overlooked if other aspects can compensate. Additionally, I was served a dish that was similar but not what was listed on the menu and the waitress and manager agreed the dish I was served was not listed and they served something else without informing or asking me. They were quite surprised when I mentioned it at the end of the meal rather than send back a meal before eating (which leaves me vulnerable). Additionally, lasagna and alfredo sauce was obviously not freshly prepared and microwaved as we received the dishes within 10 minutes of ordering and the consistency of the Alfredo was not smooth and creamy but balled up and clinging to the pasta. Waitress was clueless and manager was apologetic but left holding the bag for the waitress. She ultimately resolved the situation by taking the incorrect dish off the bill. I’ve been here before and had no trouble but the cascade of events seemed to be more than just a fluke.
We go for the food and the ambiance of a local family restaurant. Always great!
Overall great experience. Our server was very helpful and the food was terrific!
Two week advanced reservation. Sat us in the bar. Service very average. Food nothing special. Overrated.
What a lovely restaurant! Both the inside rooms and the outside garden are beautiful. Such a great ambiance for any dining occasion. Food snd service were very good. Wine list was very nice and reasonably priced. In fact I thought that Joanne’s Trattoria was s great value for NYC.
Early Saturday, the food and service were fine, but watch out for the $8 add-on for filtered water that appeared on our bill, we weren't offered nor did we ask for filtered- folks, this is NYC, known for their quality tap water!
Delish arancini. Liked the counter height table alternative. Friendly and courteous staff. Very nice experience. Thank you.
Restaurant was great. The service was great. The food was so delicious and the ambiance was fantastic.
A so so experience. Nothing was terrible, but nothing was wonderful. I will not return.
Been many times. Everything consistently good.
Fabulous intimate restaurant. The staff are lovely, the food so tasty - a real home cooked meal away from home! Go!!!!
