JJs Restaurant at VCC
JJs is one of our favorite restaurants when we come to Vancouver. Have always enjoyed the experience, attention to detail & participating in their culinary education.
We haven't been to JJ's for several years and were so pleased that our experience was delightful! Being able to book through"Open Table"is a real plus, especially with the reminder sent a day beforehand. The maitre d was pleasant and helpful and the students were very attentive. The food was excellent. I found that the groups of happy, chatty ladies soon quieted down as soon as their lunches arrived!!!!! Over all, my thanks for a wonderful and memorable lunch! Happy Thanksgiving!
I hate to be negative about a place that is training people for the industry, however I've been to JJs before and enjoyed it much more than I did on this occasion.
Firstly, two of our party of five ordered red wine and it was very cold - must have been in the fridge. Most red wines should be served at room temperature.
The service was, for the most part, very nice. The exception was that none of us was offered seconds of our drinks - i.e. wine or coffee. The server asked us how we were enjoying our appetizers, but no one ever asked about the main courses which were mostly served lukewarm. I had salmon and it was not cooked as much as I would have liked and was not hot. I ate most of it as I wasn't asked how it was and given the opportunity to send it back.
The desserts were so-so with the cheesecake being more of a gelatinous cake. The decorations on the plate and ice cream, apples etc. were all very nice, but we expected cheesecake with a cream cheese base and were surprised that this wasn't what was provided.
It took quite some time to get our bills and we were surprised that cash was not accepted.
For a training situation, there did not appear to be anyone who was taking charge and observing/instructing the staff.
Sorry to say that the experience was not what we expected and we were all disappointed.
Food, Service - everything was excellent for lunch. Will go back for dinner.
All the dishes prepared meticulously, with excellent presentation. Food cook to perfection and we can taste the exquisite ingredients with well chosen spices. Wonderful dining experience.
Great food well presented & served. Would recommend JJs to anyone.
Amazing plating and portion sizes. Such a great value, you can tell the students work really hard too!
Very enjoyable. Excellent food. Copious amount for a lunch. Only suggestion - 'Waiter(s)' should describe first complimentary mystery dish - just in case of allergies
Fabulous meal, great value and lovely service:-) Thank you for a great lunch! My guest and I were very pleased.
Second time to buffet but was quite disappointed there's no second round of seared scallop and roast beef , but overall quality of food is good.
Very outstanding lunch buffet with good food and service. I love the scallops so much but unfortunately there were not much left and I only got one piece as I have to leave some for people behind me. Other than that, most food have at least one refill. I will surely revisit JJ to try their three course lunch.
Our 3 course luncheon was fantastic. Top notch food quality, beautiful plating, pleasant service and good ambience.
The amuse bouche to start and hand made sweets to end the meal actually made this a 5 course dining experience.
Great value! Thank you and we'll be back.
The food was very good especially with the price. Can't get any better food with this kind of $$. The server was polite and you can tell that he has very little experience, but that's why he's learning :)
Really good value for the cost. This group of students did an excellent job in every area from waiters, servers, busboys.... always good to chat with them and they were patient with all our questions.
This was a birthday lunch and it’s a great experience! Would definitely keep coming and have recommended the experience to our friends. Thank you.

JJs was amazing. We were treated royally with all kinds of extra treats over and above what we ordered .
We had samples both before and after lunch that the chef sent out to our table. It was quiet and the service was amazing. It was under $25 for three courses and two trays of extra samples and Lots of coffee. I am really looking forward to returning there and only wish they would offer dinners again.
This is a gem, especially in the overpriced town of Vancouver. Make a reservation and go, hurry up!
I love this place, the food is always excellent and the students wonderful.
The food was excellent and very well presented. The salmon was done just right and the side dishes complemented it well. A nice touch was the ‘extra’ appetizer and dessert that was presented to us. Service ran smoothly (busboys and helpers did an excellent job) . Unfortunately, I had to give an overall rating of 4 rather than 5 because we felt very rushed towards the end of our meal. We were still enjoying the desserts but our waiter seemed anxious to give us our bill and in fact ‘hovered’. Other than that, it’s an excellent experience and will definitely return. Hopefully the feedback received will be helpful for the students.
Tried JJ’s buffet for the first time...LOVED IT!!
The foods are nicely prepared and cooked well. Glad to suport the future chefs!! However he ventilation system of the dining room needs to be improved. Other than that, I will definitely bring my family again!
JJs is my favourite restaurant in Vancouver. I love the service and the ambience, however this time I felt the food was below average. I had the ling cod and it was very very salty and I could not finish it. I did not enjoy my dining experience this time.
So good. I almost hate to recommend it! What servers may lack in knowledge they make up for in how hard they try!
I had the daily special, BBQ Ribs, which were extremely dry, not falling off the bone tender by any means. Also, my 3 year old granddaughter was with us and she had just plain spaghetti, no sauce, for which I was charged $15, totally excessive, I thought. Other than that everything was wonderful. Thanks.
A really wonderful experience with our server Kai and the rest of the crew. Food was delightfully presented and very delicious. The staff also added a happy birthday to the dessert of a friend celebrating her 60th. We will be back!
Food looks great but a bit too salty to my taste. Service is good given that they are students. Overall it's a great steal at that price for fine dining experience
The food was excellent, especially at such price point!
Our servers Fumiya and Dave were super friendly, and made the whole dining experience even better!
Food was excellent, both the taste and the presentation of the food. Very accommodating to our Vegan Colleague. Great value for money.
We asked the waiter for sparkling water and he brought over 2 cans of soda (Different brands), we then saw Perrier on the menu and explained that was sparkling water. He was asked to bring 2 bottles and brought 2 glasses!
The server did point out the best way to eat one of the dessert items, and I would never have thought of that and it certainly was the best way.
Not a noisy restaurant which was great, so we could all talk and hear each other.
Excellent Food and service. The salmon entree was particularly good.
Welcoming, an awesome buffet, best dining experience of 2019.
Our group of 11 had a table set up in a nice open area of the restaurant. The mushroom soup was superb.
10 of the guests ordered the Salmon Entree and all spoke highly of it. I chose to be different and enjoyed clams & spaghetti. Service was friendly and very good. Pricing very fair. I would not hesitate to recommend this restaurant. Great spot for lunch with a difference.
THE WHOLE EXPERIENCE WAS DELIGHTFUL AND DELICIOUS. COULD NOT ASK FOR MORE CONSIDERING THE TOTAL EXPERIENCE WAS A LEARNING ONE FOR THE SERVERS AND CHEFS...
JUST UNBELIEVABLY PROFESSIONAL.
Wonderful service for a great price! Food was great and appreciated.
Lovely food, lovely ambience with personal service. Highly recommended.
My name is Sarah and I dined with Katarina. I am not Katarina. The dining room is warm and welcoming, lovely table setting. Service was great. Soup was excellent, hot. Three of us had salmon which was reportedly very good. I had the spaghetti which was cooked nicely, however I found the sauce too watery, could have been a bit creamier. Also I'm a stickler about language, and servers referring to people/patrons as "guys" is not considered polite - folks is better :) The complimentary dessert was a special treat, just enough with my decaf coffee which was specially made for me, thanks so much.
All in all a wonderful experience right there at VCC.
Food presentation was beautiful and creative. Not only did the food look good, the dishes were well seasoned and flavorful , delicious! Service was as expected. Servers were not shy/afraid to interact with guests. A wonderful experience to be repeated!
Great food great service, very good food left happy and not hungry.
Definitely the best value fine dining experience in Metro Vancouver!
This is our favourite lunch spot when visiting Vancouver. The food is extraordinaire, great service from charming students, lovely china and linen settings and all this at an amazing price! We'd travel to Vancouver from Northern B.C. just to have lunch at JJs!
Incredible value for a great meal. Will be back
3 friends and myself enjoyed a wonderful lunch at JJ’s yesterday. I am a repeat customer but the other 3 ladies were experiencing JJ’s for the first time. They all want to go for lunch here on a monthly basis. There wasn’t anything we didn’t like about our experience. Two thumbs way up from the 4 of us.
