Housed in a glorious Southern mansion in the heart of Music City, Jimmy Kelly’s continues to be the standard by which all American steakhouses are measured. Founded in 1934 while the country was in the throes of the Great Depression and just one year removed from the repeal of prohibition, Jimmy Kelly made a promise to himself and his diners. Simply put, he would serve a great steak, a generous portion of whiskey and insure the service was always attentive. Making good on that promise has been the cornerstone of the restaurant’s success and enabled it to survive and flourish. Now over 80 years later and operated by the third generation of Kellys, it has earned a reputation as one of the grand old restaurants not only in Nashville but the entire southeast. This old restaurant is overrated in almost every way. The $50 filet was just "OK", nothing special. It should have been served warmer than it was, though. The potato and salad were "OK", nothing wrong with them, but not in any way what was expected of a place with the reputation of Jimmy Kelly's. Finally, the creamed spinach was what pushed us over the top in that it was a watery, lukewarm, glob of spinach. You also get no hot bread with the meal, just a stack of small, cold "corn" pancakes. The service was poor, and our seating was needlessly (on a slow Wednesday night) in a noisy part of the restaurant. The wine was good and reasonable. Never again.

The server immediately touted his service skills and lack of ever making a mistake. Ok. Awesome. All went well until.. Not only did he make mistakes he also started making excuses. No assistance. Furthest from the kitchen. Too many tasks at hand so we would have to wait. The missing item from my order was because I must have not ordered it that way. Having been in the server business I understand getting " in the weeds". But never did I blame my customer. I miss the crew before COVID. Always a pleasure with the coolest stories.

Thought I was at a sports bar and had the atmosphere like I was at Buffalo Wild Wings. I personally haven’t experience a high end restaurant with so many intoxicated people screaming at a game while everyone was trying to have a classy dinner with their spouse. Very disappointed with the experience.

Staff was great. Both of our salad was presented / slathered in ranch. My fillet was very tender. Had no flavor. Baked potato was presented in aluminum foil beside the fillet. That’s it. My wife’s half fillet had no flavor and was also presented with a baked potato wrapped in aluminum foil not cooked all the way. As hyped as we had heard this place was we left in disappointment. On to something else.

I loved Jimmy Kelly’s until this visit. Put in the room half way to kitchen to listen to crude language/conversation from staff. Took beloved items off menu. We aren’t talking about just having an off night, the overall feel of the whole meal/place was totally different.

I’ve had two quality group dinners at Jimmy Kelly’s. Both had terrific service and solid food. Not the best steaks I’ve eaten, but very good. I would recommend JK’s for anyone who enjoys an old school atmosphere and a quiet meal.

I’ve dined at Jimmy Kelly’s several times over the years. They’ve recently added a few items, and we tried the aged New York strip and the Porterhouse. Both were excellent and cooked medium rare as ordered. The fried oysters were outstanding as well.

We were looking forward to celebrating our 54th wedding anniversary at Jimmy Kelly's Steakhouse. We were quite disappointed. While the ambience and service were fine, the food was another story. I ordered my 8 oz. filet medium and it came out very well done and dry. My Caesar Salad was fine. My wife ordered the half filet with salad. The salad came out wilted and we sent it back and ordered her a Caesar salad instead which was fine. Her filet came out stringy and cooked well beyond medium well . It also seemed to be different cut than my 8 oz filet and very stringy.

Food was good but certainly not worth the price tag. If the price were halved, then you'd have an argument. Hair in our food also brought the rating down a bit. We were also the first dinner party, so the ambience was essentially nothing, but we'll just say that was because we were early. April was an outstanding server, though!

Never disappointed when going to Jimmy Kelly's. The food is always top notch. Half of our group got filets and the rest had salmon. Everyone enjoyed it. Of course, the bread is the best! We will be back!!
