Steakhouse
Housed in a glorious Southern mansion in the heart of Music City, Jimmy Kelly’s continues to be the standard by which all American steakhouses are measured. Founded in 1934 while the country was in the throes of the Great Depression and just one year removed from the repeal of prohibition, Jimmy Kelly made a promise to himself and his diners. Simply put, he would serve a great steak, a generous portion of whiskey and insure the service was always attentive. Making good on that promise has been the cornerstone of the restaurant’s success and enabled it to survive and flourish. Now over 80 years later and operated by the third generation of Kellys, it has earned a reputation as one of the grand old restaurants not only in Nashville but the entire southeast. Come anytime and enjoy a great steak and a generous portion of whiskey!

Sadly disappointed in our entire visit. It seemed chaotic at the hostess station right off the bat. Then when we were seated at tables that were too close together, it took too long to have any service, even to get water or look at the wine list. We were not asked if we had ever been there before to know that everything is ala carte. Ordered cheesecake for desert and left half of it as it was too dry. The over all cost for our meal was over $300 which in my opinion was not worth that cost. This was our third visit here after somewhat disappointing service last time enough that we made sure not to get the same server this time. We wanted it to be as good as our first time but definitely was not. We gave it another try and will not make that mistake again.

We had a really nice dinner last night. We usually come once or twice a year. My husband and I split a Porterhouse (sliced) medium cooked. It was good. I wouldn't say "great" but it was good and a great steak choice for splitting. Our server was amazing. Very knowledgeable and nice. There was a lady that greeted us as well and I saw her helping get tables ready. She was also amazing!

The issue we had was our gift card. We received a $150 gift card due to a bad prior experience we had at the restaurant. They said our gift card didn’t have anything on it, even though it had never been used. They said they’d take care of it. We were given our receipt and they decided only to make the gift card for $100, instead of the $150 it clearly said on the envelope it came in. We decided to leave and not contest it. Overall, great food but we won’t be returning.

Ordered Porter house was med rare the way I ordered. Quality was mediocre. Sides were not impressive. Had the mac and cheese, potatoes and broccoli. Pork chop was best thing on the table. We’re was good short on dressing. The pour for the 10 year Pappy was on point and price was fine. Sat in lower area under construction when we left to go out there it lost the whole ambiance. Christian the waiter was right there with the pork chop. He was on point new his stuff and I would highly recommend asking for him.

Let me start out by saying that our server was absolutely amazing. His name was Grandon and he was very friendly and well versed in the menu. We were torn between a few dishes and he helped make some recommendations for us. I really enjoyed the corn cakes that were complimentary, they had great flavor. The lobster fritters were heavy on the potato and I only got a few hints of lobster which was disappointing for the price of $25 for an appetizer. My husband got the pork chop and I got the Black Hawk Wagyu Strip. I felt like my strip needed a little more seasoning and would have paired well with rock salt if they had it. My husband enjoyed his pork chop overall but said it tasted very smokey. We did not enjoy the mashed potatoes and should have listened to the recommendation of our server when he told us to go with the scalloped potatoes. I really enjoyed the Mac and cheese. We ended the night with the chess pie which was really good and an espresso martini. Located in an old mansion the sound really carry's so it was a little hard to hear each other talk in a small dining room with four other couples. Overall I would say it fell a little bit on the expensive side for my taste. Our total bill was $300 but that is to be expected for a Nashville steakhouse.

Overall the experience was pleasant and comfortable. The wait staff was friendly and personable, and the food was excellent. My only concern is that you'd think that for the price for two people, the dining area would be better maintained. Moulding was peeling off the wall/ceiling and one couple near us had a piece of the ceiling fall on their table.

Food is very good, but the prices are terribly high. Having to pay for everything separately, makes it very expensive to eat a meal. In the past, you could order a steak and it came with a salad and baked potato. Now a steak is just a steak...... We will not be eating there as much in the future as in the past, because of this way of pricing. Also, why can't you have other choices for salad dressing? Thousand Island it a lot of people's favorites. You could at least buy a bottle for those who like it.

I have dined at Jimmy Kelly’s several times and the food and service has always been worth the value. Making a reservation gave me no pause based on our previous experience. The service was slow and very inattentive and the manager never bothered to come by our table. My filet with the truffle sauce was so undercooked I had to send it back. Once it was back at the table it was scorched not burnt and tasted like plastic. The sides of Kate’s potatoes and creamed corn were good but were a bit flavorless. Drinks from the bar took too long and our server was slow to get our drinks. Will I give this place another try, yes but they only have one more shot. So disappointed with my $400 tab and horribly served distasteful food. Looking for much better from this place!

It was Valentine’s Day so I will definitely not throw them under the bus. I think they were just super overwhelmed. We ordered crab and half of it was unable to be eaten almost rubbery I don’t know if it was not in season or not but we could not eat it. There is an appetizer that is similar to potato au gratin and it was pretty much raw and crunchy, the cream spinach was to die for and so were the corn cakes! The steak was just really not of quality we got a blue cheese crust and we don’t know if the blue cheese was too old or if it was just Extremely aged but it had an ammonia odor to it so much that we tried to scrape it off of our steak and it kind of ruined it. It’s a beautiful atmosphere and it probably would be better to go on a non-holiday night. The staff was very knowledgeable and helpful and the ambience is very romantic. It’s extremely loud in there so it’s kind of hard to have a conversation.

Repeat business and referrals are the key to building a long-term successful business. The new owner is ignoring the base of loyal customers. Read the reviews starting in October, 2023. Common theme-unbelievable increase in prices not tied to inflation, poor quality, mediocre service, removal of favorite items from menu. We had 2 burned small filets for $250. No drinks. Paid extra for 3 shrimp @$22 , small soup, and one salad. This reminds me of how I felt when I moved here in 1971. We got season tickets to Vanderbilt in football and basketball. They were our adopted team. Then VU decided that in order for us to have the "privilege" of buying season tickets, we had to make a contribution to the university. We, and a lot of loyal customers, decided not to support that policy. We haven't been back. I believe in free enterprise. But I also believe the new owner has made a strategic error. When times are good, you can thrive on visitors and new one-time customers. In tougher times, your loyal customer base carries you. We don't plan to be back.

We have been going here for several years now for Valentine’s Day. This year we were very disappointed. The new chef changed the menu and now everything is all a cart and took off their awesome twice baked potato. Our server made us feel very rush. He never even asked if we wanted a second round of drinks and brought us our bill before our dessert even arrived.

Menu has decreased by more than half. Prices have doubled. Too many tables set in the porch room, I was bumped into by the waiters every time they passed. I have been going here for more than 20 years and I have 3 gift cards left - once another dinner is finished it will be my last visit. The food, service, etc. have definitely declined vastly. It is a shame that a special treat dining experience at JK's has been lowered to the level it currently is. They are too many steak choices in Nashville and the surrounding area to be so disappointed at the end of the meal.
