Had my first anniversary here, I had driven by this place countless times. But it’s a can’t miss place. Great food my wife loves it. I want to come back every year for my anniversary. This reminds of this French restaurant I enjoy a few years back in London.
We had brunch on Sunday. It was good. Dining room is charming.
Jilly’s is always top notch in every category. This was our first time for brunch. It will not be our last!
Jilly’s is a tiny place, blink as you’re driving by and you will miss it! When I saw them on Open Table for a Sunday breakfast with my daughter, I decided to give it a try. What a charming place! Excellent food and service. The breakfast menu is simple: classics like omelette, Benedict, French toast, but everything was prepared with such precision and elegance, it felt decadent. A real gem. I can’t wait to come back for dinner!
Excellent meal and service. Hadn’t been there in a few years because we no longer are in the area often, but very glad we went back!
A neighborhood gem for decades, intimate, quaint, warm and friendly. We enjoyed a dinner of spare ribs, mussels, and steak. Everything is priced reasonably for a good French restaurant, and the wine selection is very nice. You may feel comfortable in business casual or with a sport coat, patrons are dressed both ways. The owner and a server provide excellent service. We have eaten there maybe ten times through the years and will return most definitely.
An excellent time for a birthday dinner. The food was great and the staff were helpful, engaged and knowledgeable. Ali, our waiter, was wonderful - he made us feel welcome. Living nearby, have always wanted to come to Jilly's and it did not disappoint. It is a small space, about 10 tables, which was perfect for a cozy dinner.
We love Jilly’s! We were celebrating the 55th anniversary of our meeting and were rewarded with a fantastic meal. I had the tomato fennel soup and we shared one of the best Caesar salads anywhere. My wife had a special preparation of steak with Swiss cheese and caramelized onions that was enough for three people! I had venison which was out of this world. Our server, Alfonso was wonderful. He was efficient, professional, and we had excellent conversation with him about his family and the world. The prices were quite moderate and well worth it. We have been coming to Jilly’s since it opened years ago will continue to be regular diners here.
Wonderful food, delicious coffee, great service. The food was fresh and plentiful. It reminded me of a time where dining was peaceful and enjoyable. I pretended I was dining near the Seine river. You must go and enjoy it.
Wonderfully prepared food coupled with excellent service.
This was our 20th 1st-date-aversary. And quality and ambience was as great as in 2001.
This place is wonderful. The service was great. The food was delicious and for a low price. I honestly can't believe I've never seen this place before, but I am glad that I had a chance to try this place. Definitely going to go back again soon!
The food is interesting and tasted good but the service is slow and extremely inexperienced for the price point this is at. The place is freezing cold. Bring a wrap!
Great service looking forward to returning to the wonderful food absolutely delicious!
Overall the experience was very good. The cafe is on the northern side of Evanston, in a very unimpressive part of town. My wife and I were very pleased that parking was available. We both had a cocktail (vodka tonic, french martini) which were quite good. They had a rather lengthy wine list for such a small cafe. No beer. As a starter, I had escargot, which were fantastic, possibly the best I've every had, and I've had a lot. My main was venison and it too was very good. Perfectly cooked. The sides were, well, hmm. It came with green beans and squash puree with a cherry demi-glace. The menu stated the side as haricots vert but they were clearly not french green beans. Also, they were par-boiled - way too underdone. The squash was strangely sweet and the portion was far too big. My wife had the Feullette and it was very good. However, the portion was far too big for a starter. As a main, my wife had the sea bass which was a special that evening. It too was very good. But as the feullette was so large she couldn't finish the main. She opted prior to the main to finish the feullette rather than have it boxed as scallops and shrimp do not lend themselves to be simply warmed up the next day. The space is rather small - about ten tables, minimally but tastefully decorated. However, the waiter station should be renovated posthaste. The bill was quite reasonable for fine-dining. We liked the place and were impressed enough to intend to return.
The mussles were clearly frozen. My food was all clearly frozen. It was expensive and awful. Sorry Jilly Cafe - total miss.
This is a good place for an intimate dinner, very conversation friendly due to nice background music but little noise. Prices are fine. Food was ok, some things better than others. Only one waitstaff, so service is slow. So it's not great, but if you want a comfortable and quiet place to have a nice dinner, this would be a good option. The paté served with the bread and butter was particularly good.
The food was outstanding. Overall, a very pleasant dinner.
Food was outstanding. Small place and not a chain, which is so nice.
Jillys is a gem, food was delicious and staff was so attentive! It was our first time and we will be back !
Food was excellent. Lamb chops cooked to perfection and melt in your mouth short ribs. Only complaint at all is that cocktails were way overpriced. Cost more than a nice downtown restaurant! On other hand, when a wine on list was unavailable we were offered one mgr felt was similar in taste but cost more for same price. Lovely lava cake w berries just perfect size for sharing.
Enjoyed and plan to return regularly---supporting our local restaurants.
I am confused but this was one of the worst restaurant experience I ever had. This is not a French restaurant, the worst presentation and preparation of French dishes I have ever experienced. Not very clean either, plastic flowers on the table, lousy service. In my opinion they need to hire a French chef if they wish to claim they offer French Cuisine !!! There is a certain culture associated with French dining and it is sacred; you have to love quality, taste, finesse, and been able to show your love for amazing menu creations through your dishes, unfortunately this establishment lucks all of the above. No French chef could ever possibly serve the dishes we were served this was a very disappointing experience.
Maybe in the past it used to be a very fine French restaurant, maybe they are under new management, maybe their chef had the day off.... Sorry, this was a very bad restaurant experience we will never go back and we do not recommend this place to anyone.
Great food, quiet and friendly environment. Good music.
We had not been back in a while and we found what we had missed. The food was better than ever with wonderful choices and large portions. Cannot wait to return and try something different from the menu. The best!!!
Very nice evening, I did check in and let them know I had a reservation with open table but then got a phone call stating we had not shown up for our reservation and asked if we were still coming. Service was good and quick, food was very good and everything was very fresh.
Great service. Our food was delicious. Really liked the quiet ambience.
This was our pre-Mother’s Day dinner and my wife and I were thrilled with the experience. We hav been coming to Jilly’s for decades, and it keeps getting better. They have one of the most reasonable wine lists around. The room is truly reminiscent of a Parisian bistro and cozy, but spacing was adequate so we felt comfortable. My starter was delicious escargot, in a butter sauce topped with puff pastry, and my wife had fantastic smoked salmon on a potato pancake coated with creme fraiche, but unusually topped with French fried onions! It worked! As entrees, my wife had short ribs which she loved, and I had marvelous venison (which used to be a special, but now is on the standard menu.) Two people ran the floor and provided excellent service. We return because we expect this terrific dinner, and we are always rewarded!
Jilly's offers true European food preparation; not Americanized versions of the same. The foie gras appetizer is amazing--among the best in the city. We enjoyed the branzino--very fresh and a wonderful substitute for the trout. All of the accompaniments are well-paired with the main courses.
What a joy! Food and service were stellar. As we expected but after this last year, it's nice to have expectations met and/or exceeded.
Get together with friends after we were all vaccinated. We all had different dishes, all delicious. Service was great, not rushed as in so many chain restaurants. Pricecwuite reasonable. Look forward to returning.
Food was amazing. The venison was cooked to perfection and a very good wine selection. Will definitely be back!
Excellent food, attentive service! Restaurant nicely decorated.
Jilly’s continues to prepare a wonderful menu which reminds us of being in Paris with every visit. The cuisine and service are alway top notch and we always leave thinking “we need to be back soon”.
Not what we expected based on our past dining at Jilly's. Everything seems to have gone downhill.
Wonderful staff excellent food
Our seared foie gras was delicious. The salad was fresh but overdressed for my tastes. The shrimp and scallop dish was tasty. I was not fond of the risotto with tomato. I was expecting fresh tomato and it was a tomato sauce. Our server was very attentive and pleasant. We wanted to order wine and the first two we chose were out of stock. I am going to give them another shot as we are all getting out for the first time since the shut down and they need time to hit their stride again.
Spotless environment, quiet, soothing music, spectacular food, delicious wines!
The Valentine’s Day prix fixe menu was great. My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed the full experience, from the intimate European atmosphere, to the impeccable service, and of course the excellent meal. We’ve been coming to Jilly’s for many many years and it never fails to reward us. The goat cheese appetizer was unique and the duck, as always, was fabulous. I also loved my creme brûlée. Wines are moderately priced and of a great selection. So glad they are open again!.
Felt ripped off. I spent $500 for 5 people no alcohol because I was with my kids. The restaurant was freezing and I am a hot sweaty dude. The food was subsequently ice cold within minutes. Yummy cold fish stew and fatty duck. The food was not eaten and was poorly prepared and should not have left the kitchen let alone escaped the servers attention. When you see this quality control in a restaurant, the days are numbered.
