Located just outside the city of Chicago, Jilly's Café has been called a "North Shore Treasure" by Zagat's 2002 restaurant survey. Our French Countryside decor, handpicked flowers, and friendly wait staff make for an intimate and cozy atmosphere suitable for all kinds of occasions. Here authentic French food is served with an American twist making for enough dishes to keep our specials changing daily. We offer a Sunday brunch that carefully combines a traditional American brunch with French flavors, while champagne effortlessly flows throughout the course of the meal. Jilly's is available for private parties, and reservations are strongly recommended.
Friday for lunch & we were the only people in the place (which was fine). Food was reasonable and selection was good. Our food was well prepared, tasty and good portions. The server was a little inattentive despite us being the only customers but not terrible. We enjoyed it quite a bit and would return & recommend. The one true downside is that there is no easy parking nearby.
This is the most wonderful place for a family or friend get-together. Great food, and great value.
Generally good experience. Attentive server. Food quite satisfactory.
One of our favorite restaurants in the area. Lovely small European style. Great food, service and quiet enough to talk.
Excellent food choices, great taste from all six dinners. Service has been very good all three times we have been to Jilly's. Only complaint is the music seemed a little loud at times.
Everything was delicious!
Great find! Perfect for a girls lunch and I will return
Everything was fabulous-it was a very cold Sunday night with competing football games so by the time we were into our meal we had a private seating. The food was wonderful and the staff couldn’t have been nicer.
Great food & great service make for a winning combination! We will be back!
Great food, great service by Ali in a friendly, moderately quiet setting.
The service was very good food was excellent am looking forward to returning
The menu had many appealing options.
Our waiter Ali was very knowledgeable and attentive.
We loved the ambiance.
We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner.
After wanting to try Jilly's Cafe for many years, I was disappointed. It started with a large crack in one of our water glasses. The waiter while attentive, did not provide any personality or atmosphere for our party of 6. He appeared to be in a hurry to take our order immediately after serving the drinks and appetizers. He came back several times wanting to know if we were ready to order. The restaurant was not crowded so the rush was not to turn over the table. The food was average tasting at most and very expensive. The steaks were tough. We expected an upscale experience for the price. I do not anticipate returning or recommended this restaurant.
This was our second visit whch was not as good as the first. It was New Year's Eve and it was a fixed price menu. We had appetizers, soup or salad which were good, 'for the main course we chose beef which I found to be not very tender. Presentation was very nice. Desert was excellent as were the two included glasses of chanpagne. Service was very attentive. We will go again but I thougt the price was qute high for what we had.
A successful family gathering.
I understand it was a New Years eve dinner and prices are a bit more expensive but the quality and pricing of the food was poor and expensive for what we received. They also rushed us through our dinner. They were not up to their regular standard.
Great evening. Food delivers again - seafood risotto (with risotto done “right” and beef & foie gras in a class of its own) and service to match (thanks to our server Ali who anticipated our needs and made the evening special).
My wife and I love Jilly’s, and we’ve been dining there for years. They finally have a full bar! Hallelujah! The wine list is extensive and moderately priced. My wife had a really good Caesar salad and I had an excellent cup of baked French onion soup. Her veal chop entree was terrific, and my seafood risotto was delicious and was loaded with more scallops and shrimp than expected! They still serve an intermezzo of Pinot noir ice, and the sweet pate spread for the bread are both special. Great service, an atmosphere very much truly Parisian, and fitting prices. Wonderful!
My three friends and I had a pre-Christmas lunch today at Jilly’s. We have all had dinner there on several occasions but seldom lunch. The food was delicious and our waiter Ali was very charming and helpful in accommodating our dietary preferences. What a wonderful way to kick off the holidays!
Jilly's has been in business for 40 years, but a few owners, the latest owners painted the outside a challenging red. Inside it's as charming as ever, the menu was good and had something each of enjoyed.
The bathroom was freezing that night. I might just be having a difficult time raving about it, because I have such fond memories, but they are over 20 years old now.
We went to dinner for my friends 50 something birthday and had a perfect evening. The music was nice but not too loud. Most of the tables were filled but not crazy busy. Ali- the waiter- was excellent. Everyone loved their food ! We had the steak su fe gras , branzino and lamb chops. Delicious!
Four of us came here tonight to celebrate one of our birthdays. The food was VERY fair, it was incredibly noisey and the service was dreadful!!!! We would have appreciated having our waters refilled (even once), our ice tea refilled without asking and reaching across the table, in front of our faces to clear every dish (instead of to our side). We waited at least 15 minutes for our credit cards to be processed when tables around us were being tended to in a much more timely manner.
Overall, an extremely disappointing experience-food and service! We would never come back nor recommend!!
I hadn't been to Jilly's Cafe in a long time, but I'm now putting it on my "go to" list. Food was delicious, generous portions, service was excellent. Lovely little restaurant. Some people tell me they don't go because of the difficulty with parking, but there is free parking after 6 PM and all day Saturday and Sunday right next door to the north at the Heart Auto Repair Center.
Lovely cozy place with good food. Excellent for conversation. Attentive service.
Jilly’s dependable fine food is diminished by the poor ambiance. This is a French restaurant for goodness sakes.
The server/owner is dressed very casually (flannel looking shirt and jeans) instead of the “French look” black pants and crisp white shirt. Background music has no French tunes, no Edith Piaf, and even has a few Hispanic songs.
This lack of attention to these details will, or already is, costing Jilly’s some of its most loyal clientele.
We had a wonderful meal. The food delish. All four dinners were excellent. The desserts wonderful too.
Excellent Thanksgiving Day! Food was traditional but with a French flair. Leftovers were also very good the following day.
Wonderful for brunch, always delicious. Great omelets, tomato fennel bisque was outstanding, and the very best scones anywhere.
I had not visited Jilly's in quite a while and was pleasantly surprised. I was wondering if it
is under new ownership. The staff was welcoming and the choice of dinner dishes was
very nice. Service was excellent.
Excellent brunch selections prepared well. Building is old but charming and clean
This place is probably reasonably priced, but for us it's a special occasion treat. It always lives up to our expectations. I love the boulliabaise, the pear salad, the foie gras, and the chocolate mousse cake. This time I had creme brulee as a birthday dessert from the restaurant, silly me, I thought I didn't like creme brulee, I was mistaken. Capped off a delightful dinner!
Jilly's is always lovely. I have been there a number of times. The food is always outstanding. It is an intimate little place, unexpectedly charming.
My husband’s lamb and our desserts were excellent. My squash soup was tasteless as was my trout almandine.
Always love coming here for special occasions and have done so for many years, Great atmosphere and food, although I didn't like my gnocci as much as my husband enjoyed his entree. Would be nice to offer another vegetarian option. The butternut squash soup was superb and the hot lava cake was outstanding. It would have been nice if it was complementary, as I noted it was our 35th wedding anniversary. It came as a surprise from our children and did have a candle in it though.
Excellent value. Friendly service. Nice selection of foods. Pretty presentations. Feeling of a small, French bistro
Lovely little place. Great service. Certainly an older crowd - but that didn’t bother us at all. Food was delicious.
Fabulous food and service and wines
We were a party of six. The atmosphere of the small dining room was pleasant and quiet. Being this is a “French Bistro” two of us ordered Croque Messeur I.e ham/cheese dipped in egg and crumbs and sautéed. What was served was An ordinary sandwich made with dried toast, no condiments, not even
French mustard offered. The other entries ordered were not appetizing or appealing to look at. All in all the eating experience was not good.
An all around pleasant place. It’s been there a long time and serves French influences cuisine. It’s simple and well prepared. Good value for the money
We were the only 2 people in the restaurant. Odd and uncomfortable. Service nice and food ok. We kept laughing as we wondered how they stayed open. As soon as we left, lights turned off and restaurant closed. Sad to us and probably last time going.
