I took my wife to Jilly's for Mothers Day. First the service: we were there in the evening on Mother's Day, and the restaurant was packed. Despite that, the service was timely, friendly and efficient, despite the crowd. We like a more leisurely pace for dinner, and the timing was what we like.
Now the food: I started with the tomato/ soup and it was excellent. My wife had the goat cheese that was terrific. For a main dish, my wife had the salmon, which was also very good. I like a good "moules-frites" so I ordered the appetizer mussels mariniere with a side of fries. The mariniere sauce was a creamy delight and I had to ask for more bread to soak it up. The fries were real french-styles frites, thin and crispy.
For dessert, my wife enjoyed the key like pie, and I had a peach/berry cobbler with vanilla ice cream.
Portions were ample, and we took some food home with us. Also, we found an excellent southern (Midi) French chardonnay at a very reasonable price.
We are from Montreal, and I have also lived in France, and the food and ambiance at Jilly's was as good as we have had in those countries. We highly recommend it!
The food was outstanding, loved the vibe, and energy in the room as it filled up for a busy Saturday night. Happy to see Jilly's Cafe still doing so well and carrying on the tradition of offering cuisine that pleases the eye and the palate.
This was a "thank you" dinner for a friend who had done a project for me. He was overwhelmed by the venison, the great Malbec, and the attentive, friendly service. It was a delightful experience!
Jilly's continues to please all the senses time after time. Alphonso is a superb, attentive, personable waiter, the chef is brilliant, the fois gras is incomparable, the new owner is a delight and the place deserves to be packed every night. It is easy to imagine being in a Parisian cafe, only the food is better and the prices are far more reasonable! It is among the only restaurants left in Chicago area where a pate at the beginning and a sorbet in the middle are included in every meal, and a Sauternes is served with the fois gras for a mere $2. Just go there!

Jilly’s is a small French restaurant. The food is fresh and very tasty. The waiter was great and informative. The cream brûlée was outstanding. The decor is rather worn and the 25x70foot space is a tiny space. The cost for the food was certainly worth it. I highly recommend.
This is a wonderful place to take your girl. Good menu & drink, super friendly wait staff, and terrific atmosphere. This time each of our main courses were a little over-cooked (halibut & pork tenderloin), but it did not diminish from the consistent enjoyable experience!

The food was delicious. Especially loved the pinot noir sherbert between courses - sweet touch. Very welcoming and cozy. Service fabuous.
We had a delightful dinner here on Saturday night with dear friends. Everyone enjoyed their dinner. Order the prosecco! This is the second time we have eaten here and each time the Prosecco they have has been exceptional (and far more reasonable than the French champagne).

New ownership has done nothing to change the superb dining experience for lunch or dinner at Jilly's. All that was best has been retained (a brilliant chef, a splendid waiter, great wine choices, amazing menu options offered by few if any other area restaurants) and the new touches are warmly inviting. Prices are not low but are well below area competition for such exceptionally high quality. The foie gras was hands-down the finest I have had in any metro-Chicago restaurant and better than most I have had in travels all over France. The venison is in a class by itself, great enough to win over people who might think they don't actually like venison. The duck was made to order and succulent. The new owner's secret recipe for creme brulee was a knock-out. Service is wonderfully attentive yet never intrusive. Make Jilly's your destination for a magical lunch or dinner!
The service was excellent and the food was great. The new owner was our hostess and wait person. We ordered the profiteroles and the owner brought us a bonus, her famous Creme brûlée which was her own recipe and very good.
Great Valentine's Day fixed price meal, good wine, and champagne. Servers were very attentive. Meals were delicious!

My wife, two daughters (ages 14 and 12) and I celebrated my 51st birthday at Jilly’s. I enjoyed delicious lamb chops, my wife had steak frite and our daughters split a seafood special with shrimp and scallops. Everyone was pleased with their meal and the superb desserts were a welcome topper.

Scented votives were not conducive to eating. Too overwhelming and made u wonder what they might be trying to cover up.

This is a nice place for dining. The people working there are very friendly and helpful. The food is very good. My lamb chops were cooked perfectly. I wish the place had a full bar, but their wine list is quite good.

This is the latest of many visits to Jilly's, and may have been the most satisfying. As usual, the genuine French bistro atmosphere is both warm and romantic. The menu seems not to change, but is diverse enough to last months. The wine list is one of the most reasonably priced in Chicagoland. The service is always friendly, efficient and reassuring. The food is the reason we come back: fresh ingredients, great preparation, and generous portions at good prices. On this occasion, my wife had an excellent Caesar salad followed by an entree of duck breast, which she loved! There was enough leftover to feed our Bichon. I opened with escargot with a puff pastry covering, and these delicious morsels were excellent. I then stayed in the ocean with shrimp and scallop risotto (a special) which was out of this world. The shrimp were tasty and the diver scallops as sweet as they come. A creme brulee topped off the feast, and made the evening perfect. Fantastic!
Jilly’s was perfect. We had a party of four for a special birthday. Food, service as well as ambiance were all excellent . We all fully enjoyed our meals. The setting was just right for a small get together. I was here once before and loved it - I will definitely be back again.

I took a friend for her birthday and we had a great time in the quiet, cosy restaurant. Although French, they have a range of Mexican-inspired options as well. We did miss the French Onion soup we thought would be a staple at a French restaurant, but were delighted with the tomato soup, mussels and steak sandwich options. The host, in finding out we were celebrating a birthday, treated us to dessert, bringing over samples of the choices which made it impossible not to indulge. The tab was lower than it would be at any other French restaurant and included a bottle of wine. I would definitely go back again, but will have to find another place for French Onion soup.
If you are looking for the ideal place to enjoy food fit for foodies, an intimate ambience, superb service that is attentive but never intrusive, totally separate lunch and dinner menus at affordable prices and conversation-permitting noise levels, look no further than Jilly's Cafe. After many thoroughly enjoyable meals, it remains a favorite haunt.
We'd previously had a fabulous lunch at Jilly's, so this time we brought our friends for a birthday dinner. Once again we were thrilled with the entire experience. From the complimentary escargot down to the surprise birthday desserts, new owners Ida and her husband were hosts par excellence. Each of us had a different entree, but the lamb and short ribs were a special hit with the men. The ladies thoroughly enjoyed the pear chicken and mussels, and everyone ate twice as much as they usually consumed in a typical restaurant meal. Our friends are confirmed "foodies" and world travelers, but they said Jilly's was the best dinner they'd had in years and promised they'd return--all this for a restaurant that's a 45 minute drive from our homes in lake Forest! Thank you to Ida. This is now our favorite restaurant on Chicago's North Shore!
