Jema Ratings and Reviews
We arrived and had a drink at the bar, they don’t carry grey goose (even though the bartender says they are constantly asked for it and agreed they should have it) but the cocktail I had was delicious and the bartenders were very friendly we enjoyed that. We finished our drinks and sat for dinner. This was where things went bad. We ordered wine from a menu of unknown bottles. The red was great but the white bottle was disgusting to the point of not being drinkable. We refused the bottle initially when poured for tasting but the manager came over to arrogantly tell us that we own that bottle and are unable to refuse it. We let him know that we planned on buying other bottles and this one was unanimously not a good wine. He again refused and said that they wouldn’t be able to accommodate our request. Ok. I drank the red instead and my friend unsuccessfully tried to drink the $80 bottle of white. We’ve never turned back a wine and this wasn’t just bad it was disgusting. Acidic and bitter, could have been the bottle but he wasn’t hearing it either way. We decided to make the best of the night and ordered a few appetizers. The oysters came and our request for cocktail sauce was denied bc they don’t serve that but adding that they get that request a lot also. The grilled octopus was tough but the mushrooms tartlets were decent. Our dinners arrived next. The short ribs were smoky in flavor as described but absolutely tasteless otherwise. I honestly could have been eating firewood it was that smoky. The squid ink pasta was terrible, our friend said it was practically inedible and the strip-loin ok but nothing special. I’d like to add that the waitress was a doll and we even laughed that we would love to get her a job at another restaurant bc as great as she was we would not be returning to this restaurant. Overall the experience lacked everything that makes a restaurant desirable and enjoyable. Don’t waste your time or money.
I would return because food good though I have had similar fare at other high end restaurants. Obvious care and detail went into the food and the execution was first rate. My only complaint was the overzealousness of the wait staff which was a disconnect from the quiet, sophisticated ambience. As a former waitress, I know wait staff cannot win: too enthusiastic, not attentive enough. Our waitress was good but I would have liked her to tone it down a bit.
Thoroughly enjoyed our dining experience at Jema's. We received a warm greeting when we arrived. The warmth we extended to all staff we experienced: hostess, bartender, server, and management. We were a party of six. All of us felt Jema's food was truly among the best we've had anywhere, form New York City to the Hampton's. You could feel and taste the care that went into each plate served. I absolutely love Octopus, aka Pulpo. Yes, many serve it, but not well. Jema's Octopus excelled. Tender on the inside, just enough char from the grill on the outside.
I highly recommend dining here!
Classy and contemporary - a style few succeed at!
We've been to Jema many times and it never disappoints. From the time Victoria welcomes us by name until she hands us our leftovers as we depart, it's a non-stop five star experience. The menu changes periodically but doesn't "try too hard" to be unique. On this trip I had the mushroom tart and the grilled octopus - both are simply amazing. If you like fruity cosmo-type drinks try a Joy-de-vivre (named after owner Joy Mangano) - very well done cocktail.
This will not be an inexpensive evening, but you're guaranteed an excellent meal with excellent service. By far the best food AND best service anywhere in the Huntington area!
Excellent restaurant, NYC level!!! From the hostess Jennifer (even if it was her first day) to the food and service everything was top notch. Octopus is the best I've ever had, Duck was unbelievable and the cocktails too..I dont understand why people complain about prices. Overall 120$ for two people. At this quality, totally worth it. Will be back!
Food was delicious. The best grilled octopus appetizer I ever had! It included the flavor of chorizo and was served on a bed mashed potatoes. An appetizer of $19, though, was a tad bit pricey. Had the squid linguine with seafood. It was super tasty. Loved the bread crumbs sprinkled on top. Still, could have used a bit more seafood. Also, a past dish for nearly $30 was a bit pricey. The service was impeccable. Extremely knowledgeable and friendly wait-staff. Finally, the wine list was excellent, but the pour was bit light and not your usual 5-6 oz. This is an honest review. I really loved Jema, but I offer up these cheers and critiques as one who always seek for restaurants to improve themselves.
We ate upstairs in a very quiet (only seven tables) area and received incredible personal attention along with excellent food. It was a joy not to have to raise your voice to be heard on a Saturday night. The downstairs section was more lively with a little bit more noise. The Maitre d and Manager came to the table to assure all was well and told us a brief history of the chef. Highly recommend Jema. It is a NYC type upscale restaurant here on Long Island.
Food is fine. Seems like the same menu as restaurant that had this space before. Jema just re invented it?? Portions are very small. My husband had to go to little Vincent’s for a slice after we left! Service is friendly. Decor exactly the same as before. All in all. Eh
My husband and I wanted to try Jema for a little while, and we were very happy we did.
The interior is cozy yet contemporary, the staff is very nice and attentive and the food was delicious. This is an upscale kind of restaurant, worth the trip. We will definitely be back....
Each time we go, the place just gets better and better. Small touches go a long way. My wife didn’t finish part of her meal, asked if she could take it home. Yes, of course. As we were leaving , almost forgetting she asked for it, the hostess handed her a neatly wrapped package containing her leftovers. Instead of bringing it to table where it’s always ackward, they hand to you as you leave. Very classy.
This was my 2nd visit to Jema and it didn't disappoint. Oysters and grilled octopus were superb. Our main entrees also were great. Incredible service from the staff. Really nice personal touches such as choosing your knife to cut your meat, etc. Although expensive, well worth it!
Really nice restaurant, our only issue was the service was very slow and we were left waiting a lot. The menu is also very small, without many safe items. We are foodies and loved all we had, but some of the people in our party wanted somthing familiar ( No fillet mignon ) . Also lights a little bright upstairs, would have loved them more dim and intimate. But we will be back and would recommend!
Beautiful space, quiet ambience and good locally sourced food. Slight problem with timing, our entree came out before we had gone over a wine pairing so we sat with a cooling main course waiting for the sommelier to stop by. This might sound picky but with food at this quality and price I would have expected better. But overall a lovely dining experience.
We started with drinks at the bar and then moved upstairs to a corner table . Loved the decor and levels . Had the octopus for appy - so tender and the black squid ink pasta with scallops , shrimp and mussels - all excellent - portions were not large ,just right
I visited the restaurant with my wife to celebrate my birthday. I was really excited to visit this place as my friends said how nice it is. It was better. Since the moment they opened the door for us with a great smile. All staff were friendly and lovely. We absolutely loved the food. It was tasty and delicious. We did the tasting menu with pairing wine, just perfect. Decor it's beautiful. I have not enough words to say about desert, love it. They just made my birthday complete. I will be back, totally recommend it. Worth the drive. Thanks Jema team.
Outstanding service from the valet parking to the hostess to the server to the sommelier and to one of the owners, all of them so gracefully greeted, acknowledged and accommodated you like if you were a long time patron of the place. All very impressive. The cocktails were very different and delicious, you must not skip them. The bread basket however, you can skip with no regrets, bread was cold hard and not what I would expect at a restaurant like this one. The rest of the menu is intriguing, I like the grilled octopus which our server recommended, I also had the picanha which is a beef, it was absolutely delicious. The menu is limited but not ordinary. The desserts are wonderful. Noise level is a little high for my taste, but all in all we had a lovely and enchanting dinner.
I’m really torn with Jema. The service and atmosphere is absolutely amazing and the food on paper looks amazing. Great menu selection and diversity of products. My only concern is the amount of sauce in their dishes. The last several times I have been here the salt was unbearable. It was like taking a teaspoon of salt and just eating it. We spoke to the staff and they stated that it’s not the first time they’ve heard this and the chef is know to be heavy handed with the salt and that’s the way he likes it. That’s really not an excuse. If your customers don’t like it you gotta lay off of it. Please use less salt. If It needs more we can always season it ourselves at the table. Less is always more. I’d rather it be under salted that I have to season myself then over salted and have to send it back.
