About this restaurant

  • Neighborhood gem
  • Good for special occasions
  • Fancy
We are primarily reservation based and very limited for walk-in availability.

Jeju, in Korean, also has a few different definitions such as “skill, talent, ability”.

The close Korean equivalent of the Japanese Ramen, Ramyun is a comfort dish enjoyed by Koreans of all social class and ages. At Jeju Noodle Bar our main focus is to allow diners to experience and savor the distinct Korean flavor by using different techniques & ingredients from chef Douglas’s experiences.

Why they're an Icon

Executive chef: Douglas Kim

From the OpenTable editors: Fine-dining vet Douglas Kim (Bouley, Per Se) has been turning out some of the finest ramyun in town since the opening of this MICHELIN-Starred West Village restaurant in 2017. In a sea of thrilling Korean options in New York, Jeju has held on to that star for six consecutive years and continued to rise on the New York Times’s 100 Best Restaurants list. Grab a seat in the sleek wood and tile-clad interiors for bowls of Wagyu ramyun or lobster myun; a hot take on Korean fried chicken dolloped with caviar; and toro ssam bap topped with fatty tuna, caviar, and sea urchin.

Food: we ordered 3 appetizers, 2 entrees, and ice cream for dessert. Toro Ssam Bap - this is one of the tastier dishes. Well-balanced flavors, and a fun dish as you have to scoop the ingredients onto a piece of seaweed. Jeju Fried Chicken - the chicken is moist, the skin is crispy, and in a sense ok. The saving grace is the yogurt dip. Because of the sourness, it went well with the fried chicken. The caviar is more of a nice touch, but did little to enhance the flavor of the dish. Tuna Yukhwe Salad - a tuna salad with fresh greens. Nothing fancy about it, just tasted good. A bit on the expensive side given that you only get a few thin slices of tuna. I do mean thin as it breaks apart when you try to lift it off the dish. Gochu Ramyun - the broth tasted good, the noodles had a bite, which is great, but only two small pieces of pork that were on the dry and hard side. It’s pork belly, I would have expected it to be a bit more tender. It did have a spam taste to it, which made it different. Lobster Myun - best dish we had for the night. Not a lot of lobster pieces, maybe 5-6 small pieces, equivalent to a big claw. The noodle is al dente. The sauce is the best part. It is briny and creamy. Would definitely order this again. Ice cream - soft serve with EVOO and salt, and came with a side of cut strawberries that had EVOO and salt. Very well put together. Would never think EVOO and salt would go with ice cream. Something to now try at home. Service The service was pretty standard. Nothing special to note. Reason for a lower rating was that I had written in the special request that the dinner was for my wife’s birthday. For the most part that usually doesn’t go unnoticed and restaurants try to do something - small dessert with a candle, the menu wishing them a happy birthday, or even just dropping by and saying a simple happy birthday. But nothing. Also, as we left, the host just kinds of looks at us while we walk out. Doesn’t say bye or anything.

Very good value for your money. I would avoid the ramyuns because they are so similar to ramens you can get at other places, but the myuns are good. Very unique and special. The toro ssam bap was phenomenal. The ice cream soft serve is a must. You won't regret dining here.

The toro ssam and the mushroom ramyun are my favorite. The ice cream soft serve changes based on season and it never fails to marry complex flavors together wonderfully.
