About Jeffrey's Restaurant
Jeffrey's Restaurant & Bar has been an Austin neighborhood fine dining institution since 1975. In 2012 the restaurant closed for a major renovation and has reopened under the leadership of Austin's premiere restaurant group, McGuire Moorman Hospitality. The restaurant, nestled in a quiet neighborhood just west of downtown features a lively bar, three distinct dining rooms and menus featuring dry-aged prime steaks, updated classic fine dining and locally sourced produce. Private dining is available, free valet is standard & local car service is offered.
Josephine House offers lunch, brunch, happy hour, dinner & Monday night steak frites. The Clarksville cottage features a small marble bar for coffee or cocktails, intimate tables in the dining room, shady nooks on our patio and a grassy front lawn for lounging. Chef Alex Manley and her team prepare an eclectic daily menu featuring the best locally sourced products.

Jeffrey's Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
Arrived for a special Birthday dinner with my husband. Service was prompt and attentive at first and then became rushed. When at a fine dining establishment, we take our time through courses and like to enjoy a cocktail, appetizer, salad etc. prior to having an entree shoved in front of us as to "flip" a table. That was our pet peeve at Jeffrey's. On the plus side, the ambiance is inviting, low light. enables conversation etc. Food is good but not of a Michelin star quality in any way (just to set a bar). Would we return? Yes but most likely would do the bar area and reserve a fine dining experience for something more Chef and Service Driven.
This was our first dining experience in Austin, and it was excellent. The food was creative and the portions reasonable; even my cocktail, which was delicious, was beautifully presented. The servers -- yes, plural, because there were many people involved with the service -- were all very friendly and helpful. I will definitely try to go back if I am in Austin again.
Had dinner here for my husband’s birthday. Everything was absolutely wonderful. We were seated in a cozy booth next to the window and they even put a “happy birthday” card on the table! The cheese cart was awesome, my husband’s steak was literally perfection, my seafood risotto was incredible and service was on point! We will absolutely be coming back.
We had a great time at Jeffrey’s on Saturday! The servers were very attentive and knowledgeable, the timing of the courses was very well planned, and our overall experience was great. My only complaint would be the prices. The steaks especially are very expensive.
I ate dinner at Jeffrey's twice last week -- once as part of a large work-related group, and another time with my wife. Each time, the dining experience was fantastic! Everything about our dinners -- from the valet parking to the food and drinks to the service from the waiters -- was top notch. As I recall our experiences, the attention to detail -- exacting without being obnoxious -- sticks out the most to me. It definitely results in an "ease" to dining at Jeffrey's which is so hard to find at other restaurants, whether in Austin or elsewhere. I no longer live in Austin, so my opportunities to eat at Jeffrey's have become increasingly few and far between. However, I certainly will return every chance I get. Thanks for the delicious and delightful dinners.
Jeffreys has always been a favorite of ours since the first time we dined there as a result of a friends recommendation. We never travel to austin without a trip to Jeffrey's. We discussed this time that we believe it to be the best Restraunt we've ever been to
Recently went for a special occasion. The ambiance and service were outstanding. The appetizer and hors-d'oeuvres were excellent. Unfortunately, the main courses (steak and seafood risotto) fell short. The ribeye was very tough. The risotto was drowning in a sauce rather than creamy. I would have rated this a 9, but the food was so lacking for the main course I really can only give it a 6 or 7.
Fantastic dining experience. Rivals any higher-end dining in the Austin area. In the constant release of new restaurants downtown it is easy to forget this long-time standby. If you love the Austin vibe, as we do, but sometimes long for a bit more formality and grace over an unparalleled dinner, you must try Jeffrey's. We were celebrating an especially notable event for us, so we enjoyed the full experience - from craft cocktails at the small, cozy bar (felt like I was in Europe), to martini prepared table side, to caviar service with champagne (they serve Cristal by the glass, at a relatively moderate price, who knew?) to med/rare dry aged Wagyu with fantastic right bank Bordeaux (please don't count the drinks). Immaculate service throughout from all. Truly unbelievable. Every dish was perfect. Wine list was impressive, with something for everyone. Put on your must-visit short list.
My only complain is that our reservation was at 9:30 and they seated us at the bar table for 30 min next to a really loud table . It was our anniversary so we really wanted to talk also it was kind of late and we were hungry so those 30 min were not the best.
I reserved a table here for my daughter's birthday. Both of my daughters and my daughter-In-law were in Austin for a girls' trip for my daughter's 30th birthday. My thoughts are that we were all dressed up and saw people in here in t-shirts and jeans. We were not greeted warmly and were told to sit in the window seat (big enough for two people) in the busy hallway because even thought we had reservations, our table was not ready. Then a guy with what looked like two call girls was seated immediately. It took our server 20 minutes to make four martinis from the tableside martini bar, then she made mine with a twist instead of the olives I asked for. She was a nice server and tried fairly hard. Overall the service was very slow. The two who ordered Chateaubriand were thrilled with their meals. My daughter and I ordered sole and pork chop and were less than impressed. The popovers were a nice touch, and the wine list was very good. I have eaten in 5-star restaurants all over the world, and when you pay this much for a dinner, you just expect a little more polish from the staff in the front of the house as well as the back of the house.
Consistently excellent restaurant which too often is taken for granted because of how long in business ..
Testimony to this is how Jeffrey's is able to recruit '
develop superior young talent like Lucas & Alex. They assured a recent pleasurable evening, Friday 9/22/17 .. Roger E.
Took the wife out for our 5 year wedding anniversary. The food was great, the ambiance was perfect and we had a blast. She is 6 months pregnant and the waiter took great care to steer her thru the menu as well as recommend alcohol free drinks. Great "white glove" experience for a fairly reasonable price. This place came recommended, and I see why.
Impeccable service provided by everyone from valet parkers to our team of wait staff. I appreciate the little touches that made it a special meal. They had a handwritten happy anniversary note on our table and a welcome glass of bubbles for our anniversary. Service was courteous and efficient. The dishes were tasty and presented well. The popovers were fresh out of the oven and delicious. And the waitstaff knew how to make recommendations based on our preferences. Overall a special meal.
We went for a special birthday and our server forgot the whole second course. By the time the entrees came we were so hungry we didn't have time to wait for the second course to be started. This was really disappointing. They at least comped the drinks and dessert but I'm was shocked by such a big mistake.
The food was excellent. They initially were very delayed in taking our order - we grabbed a manager to let her know. They were extremely apologetic and made things right by not charging for our appetizers or dessert. That is what good restaurants do. Other than that initial delay, the service was excellent, and they could not have been more apologetic. Would very, very highly recommend. I am excited to go back.
My husband and I went the night we got married for our mini-moon for a special dinner. From the hostess, to waiters, to chefs, and kitchen staff, everyone made us feel so special and loved. They brought us special appetizers, beverages, two gorgeous desserts, and even decorated our table. I've never been to a restaurant so delicious or with such kind people. I can't imagine a better wedding night dinner. The ambience was perfect, romantic, and so unique. Thank you to everyone at Jeffrey's, from the bottom of our hearts.
Dining experience was impeccable as always...the only complaint was a rude bartender in the bar. We wanted to have an after dinner cocktail and was told they were no longer serving (it was 10:20) even though we had not been given a last call. She however served one of her friends at the bar right in front of us, and when I inquired about it she rudely said she was serving another employee. Not the kind of service or behavior I would expect from Jeffreys.
Jeffry's is beautiful and the service excellent. However, it is somewhat overpriced. The 8oz filet and halibut were very good, but the temperature of the halibut wasn't hot enough. The brussels sprouts took carmelization too far and were basically burned. The cheese service was described as cheese with baguettes and jelly. However, we got honey and crisp thin crackers. Also, the server said we'd get two ounces of each cheese we picked, but there is NO way we got that much. It was more like one ounce. I'm not sure we'll return as often as we used to (every 3 to 4 months), especially since the prices have increased so much.
I chose Jeffrey's for my anniversary dinner and I was shocked at how average, at best, the food was. I would be ashamed to claim this restaurant as a high end Austin great! I ordered the Caesar salad and fried oysters to start with, had the rib-eye and seafood risotto for the entrée's with mushroom and broccoli sides. Salad was good, not sure what they were trying to do with the oysters, the rib-eye was select grade of meat at best, stringy and chewy (and my I add rib-eye is my favorite cut of meat and always my go to for choice of steaks), and the seafood risotto was like a soup/porridge limited on any flavor (they could definitely cook down the broth and strain the seafood better to limit the amount of water in the dish). the service was good so that is a plus.
To sum it up, for the price of their dishes and what I tasted as the quality of their food, this place is not worth the time and I will not be going back again. To many other choices around to make this your dinner stop!
Nice bar area. Watched bar tenders make every drink. For a restaurant with these prices you wouldn't think they would make every single drink intricately measuring all alcohol in a jigger. $130 organic ribeye was good flavor but very tough. Waiter could not recommend a Pinot Noir to go with our meal and there was no Sommelier. Extremely over-priced for the food quality.
