About Jeffrey's Restaurant
Jeffrey's Restaurant & Bar has been an Austin neighborhood fine dining institution since 1975. In 2012 the restaurant closed for a major renovation and has reopened under the leadership of Austin's premiere restaurant group, McGuire Moorman Hospitality. The restaurant, nestled in a quiet neighborhood just west of downtown features a lively bar, three distinct dining rooms and menus featuring dry-aged prime steaks, updated classic fine dining and locally sourced produce. Private dining is available, free valet is standard & local car service is offered.
Josephine House offers lunch, brunch, happy hour, dinner & Monday night steak frites. The Clarksville cottage features a small marble bar for coffee or cocktails, intimate tables in the dining room, shady nooks on our patio and a grassy front lawn for lounging. Chef Alex Manley and her team prepare an eclectic daily menu featuring the best locally sourced products.

Jeffrey's Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
Great food and drinks and service. Ambience was tricky. Recommendation is try to plan seating with the restaurant based on your plan for the evening. Our plan was romantic evening for two, but we were seated in one of the really small side rooms with a larger group who had a casual, heavy drinking party night in mind. Not the best alignment.
I have enjoyed Jeffrey’s for over twelve years now and never once been underwhelmed. From the bar to the dining room to the private dining suite... Not an inexpensive night but they just hit on all cylinders so it is just worth it. Table 58 is amazing for two and our Captain, James was informative, professional and friendly. As Mr. Ferris Beuller says “if you have the means, I highly recommend it...”.
Great place! Would be hard to beat the quality of service, food, and ambiance. Eric, our waiter, was superb. Made online reservation and mentioned we were celebrating a birthday and would be attending a performance at the Bass Concert Hall after dinner. Restaurant confirmed reservation day prior and suggested arriving a bit earlier for dinner to accommodate our time schedule. Impressive attention to detail. On our table was a nice card acknowledging the birthday. Parking is very limited, but the restaurant offers valet parking and is very efficient.
I took my boyfriend to Jeffrey's to celebrate his promotion. I had heard great things about their happy hour, but wanted to try dinner. I told the restaurant what we were celebrating ahead of time and they went out of their way to accommodate us and help celebrate the occasion. The service was incredible and the food is some of the best in Austin - which is saying a lot. We had a romantic table tucked in the corner and it was an all around great night - exceeded my expectations!
Phenomenal from start to finish. Went for happy hour to celebrate my mom’s birthday, and the food, drinks and service were stellar. To start, they seated us at a lovely table with a birthday card. The steak, wood fired mushrooms and coffee ice cream profiteroles with salted caramel were the stand outs. The leek soufflé, popovers, waygu burger, and acorn squash tortellini were excellent too. I can’t imagine how you could ever go wrong coming here, especially to celebrate!
The vegetables that were served with my Sole entree were phenomenal! Of course, all of the other offerings were delicious; fresh and sourced locally, I imagine. The pop-over served before the meal is quite a treat. The chocolate souffle is definitely to be shared.
The atmosphere felt a bit more casual than the previous venue. The division of the space, however, lends itself to pretty comfortable table conversations.
I always think of Jeffrey's as a place to celebrate special occasions. The bar is so fun and festive and the main dining area is lovely. We decided to go last week for my birthday. We had a perfect table and the best service ever. Thoroughly enjoyed everything, until the food came. Not only was most of it totally overpriced, every single dish was a disappointment. The Dover Sole was dry and fishy, the Osso Buco was tasteless and the best part of the short ribs was the side of grits. Caesar salads just ok. We did not even order dessert because there was nothing on the menu that even sounded good! I would say go for a drink and sit in the bar. The other is overpriced and totally not worth, but you will have the best service you've ever had!
We ordered 4 appetizers (2 small plates and 2 appetizers) and all 4 came out at the same time. It was such a disappointment. When you're spending $400 on dinner you want it to last 2 hours while you enjoy your expensive bottle of wine, food and company. I felt rushed and our warm dishes got cold because we couldn't even everything all at once. We asked for the warm dishes to be sent back and kept under a warmer while we finished our other plates. It was a little disappointing because we've dined at Jeffrey's previously and it wasn't like this. We were told this was a new arrangement but I don't understand how two people would ever want 4 dishes to come out all at once? We lived in NYC for 15 years and have dined at plenty of incredible restaurants and have never had this happen. That aside, it was a lovely evening.
Arrived for a special Birthday dinner with my husband. Service was prompt and attentive at first and then became rushed. When at a fine dining establishment, we take our time through courses and like to enjoy a cocktail, appetizer, salad etc. prior to having an entree shoved in front of us as to "flip" a table. That was our pet peeve at Jeffrey's. On the plus side, the ambiance is inviting, low light. enables conversation etc. Food is good but not of a Michelin star quality in any way (just to set a bar). Would we return? Yes but most likely would do the bar area and reserve a fine dining experience for something more Chef and Service Driven.
This was our first dining experience in Austin, and it was excellent. The food was creative and the portions reasonable; even my cocktail, which was delicious, was beautifully presented. The servers -- yes, plural, because there were many people involved with the service -- were all very friendly and helpful. I will definitely try to go back if I am in Austin again.
Had dinner here for my husband’s birthday. Everything was absolutely wonderful. We were seated in a cozy booth next to the window and they even put a “happy birthday” card on the table! The cheese cart was awesome, my husband’s steak was literally perfection, my seafood risotto was incredible and service was on point! We will absolutely be coming back.
