About Jeff Ruby's Steakhouse - Louisville
The first & only steakhouse of its kind in the Louisville area, Jeff Ruby's Steakhouse serves only dry-aged USDA prime beef. While steak is the foundation of the menu, Jeff Ruby's promises to please seafood lovers as well with its raw/sushi bar & seafood entrees.
Jeff Ruby regulars will be pleased to know that their favorite signature items from the Cincinnati restaurants will be well represented in Louisville. The bone-in filet, the 7 cheese baked macaroni, creamed spinach, truffle flake creamed corn, & of course Jeff Ruby's secret recipe cheesecake will all be staples of the Louisville menu.
Styled after the great NY steakhouses of the 1930's & 40's, Jeff Ruby's promises to be as pleasing visually as it is to the palate. French art-deco design, plush mohair upholstery, hand selected antique furniture and cinematic crystal chandeliers anchored by a 1950s-era antique featured in the Starz series Magic City and the 32 foot wall of wine.

Jeff Ruby's Steakhouse - Louisville Ratings and Reviews
I love this place!! We always eat here when at the Galt House for a conference - a nice treat. If you can sit in the lounge area so you can enjoy the piano bar. Jeff Ruby’s steaks are nicely seasoned and perfectly cooked. Add the amazing Mac and Cheese and your meal is complete.
We visited Jeff Ruby's over the weekend before catching a show at the YUM center. We made our reservation a few month's in advance (which I highly recommend). They were completely booked on the Monday evening. The atmosphere is awesome...sort of retro with cozy couch like booths and chandeliers. We had the Godfather Roll as an appetizer and it was wonderful. I tried the Japenese Wagyu and it was totally worth the splurge. My husband tried the filet and he said it was the best he had ever had. We shared generious sides of mashed potatoes and mushrooms and they were fantastic as well. We were too stuffed to try any dessert but everything we saw looked delicious! We will return next time we visit Louisville. I highly recommend Jeff Ruby's.
Let me say first I have been coming to JR now for several years. I have brought my kids here for their first high end dining experience and to make a great memory. I have brought countless clients visiting Louisville here, and I have celebrated business milestones with partners where I have spend more money on dinner than I care to actually admit here. I waited a few days to write this even to make sure I was not over reacting. The service in general was good, but it was very obvious that there were issues between the back and front of the house this night. We waited for 20 minutes between appetizers and entree. We had a gift card (a wedding present) and a $25 gift certificate from JR from a previous dinning experience. Our server advised since it has expired a week ago we could not use it. He advised that he asked his manager and the answer was no, it was expired. Keep in mind our coffees at the end of night was $25, so it would have been like comping a couple cups of coffee with Bailys. Really? Management can't comp $25 bucks?! It is merely the principle here, not the actual $25. Very disappointed in the management this night. I won't be back anytime soon.
Side note, JR is a high end steak house, but by 9:30 pm service suffers as the live entertainment takes over the noise level is elevated to that of small live music venue.
All of the hoopla about this place is well deserved. While the steak was excellent and perfectly cooked, it IS just a piece of meat and there just isn't that much difference between JR's and other high-end steak houses. But the decor is fun, service is great, food is great. The shrimp cocktail came in a bowl with a blue light. Ooooh! The bread was excellent and the sides were very nice too. It is a memorable dining experience and we wouldn't hesitate to celebrate a special occasion there.
I've been to a few nice steak houses and this has to be up there with the best. Our steak was truly flavourful and the mac & cheese to die for. To top it off our server was wonderfully attentive and assistant attentive yet almost invisible. The ambience of the place fit together many unique aspects in a most wonderful way. My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our date. One of the best food experiences we've ever had.
First class and then some
We had a couple rolls (The Godfather roll and an avacado roll) that were absolutely amazing.
A couple glasses of B.R. Cohn Cabernet Sauvignon with 2 house NY strips prepared with a Pittsburg sear...you don’t need a steak topping, but I would recommend their regular unsalted butter over any of the a la cart options. It was the best steak we’ve had in years, easy.
We split a baked potato and lobster macaroni and cheese and wished we’d just had the potato. The macaroni is very rich and decadent but we were nearly too full to enjoy dessert, nearly :)
My wife had the blackberry cobbler and I had the carrot cake...superb and a perfect end.
Great atmosphere, service, and food. Didn't try the sushi or raw bar but everything looked very fresh. The steak selections are prime, wet or dry aged beef. The filet was excellent and the strip was phenomenal. Great selection of sides.....be sure to try the Mac and cheese! Best steak I've had outside of Chicago.
We chose Jeff Ruby’s based on a friends recommendation. It was a wonderful experience. Our waiter, William was more attentive to us than any other waiter we have had experience with. He made it his job to make sure our food choices, wine choices, and desert choices were superb. He took a real interest in our anniversary (21st), making sure to put the right amount of extra touches to make the night memorable. We loved William. So very charismatic and charming without being cheesy. Perfect integral part in our lovely anniversary dinner. Thank you for your time, kindness, and conversation William. You tipped the scales on the restaurant to one of a kind night.
Not as good as the Cincinnati location for service or food. We have been long time diners at the Cincinnati location. So this one is a beautiful place, the pianist was really good and we enjoyed his music. The problem started when we ordered an expensive bottle of wine at the bar while we waited for our table. 15 - 20 minutes later we still had no wine. After asking several times they said they couldn't find it. I saw a manger tell the bartender. I felt the manager should have come to us and apologized or acknowledged us, or even bought us a glass of wine, appetizer or something. In a high end restaurant I would have expected more customer service. Things happen but its all about how it is handled. My husband and I both had filet which was a bit dry and not that great. Maybe an off night, who knows. The prices here are high, over $50 for the steak alone. That's OK if the overall experience is good. I can say we just did not enjoy our evening or our meal as much as we had hoped to. I will not go to that location again. I did not feel like a valued customer. Our waitress was very nice, but she was also preoccupied with a larger party, which sometimes happens. It was just the perfect storm as they say. Nothing was up to our previous experience as a Jeff Ruby Restaurant. We are no strangers to high end steakhouses. This one just didn't fit the bill.
The atmosphere was wonderful for a date, dinning area good for conversation while the bar and awesome entertainment. The food was top notch, one of the best steaks i have ever had. Wine list has anything you could want, and the cheesecake for desert is to die for. the service was perfect as expected in a restaurant of this caliber. Highly recommend if you are in Louisville..
The food is obviously top notch at Jeff Ruby’s, but the one thing that distinguishes it from ANY other restaurant is the level of service provided. Everyone is a VIP and the well-trained and expert staff makes sure everyone feels that way - anticipating your every need before you even realize it. I wish I could dine there every week, but reserving the experience for special occasions just makes them that much more special. Our lead waiter John was personable, helpful, and top-notch. As if the experience weren’t special enough, we were absolutely surprised and thrilled when he gifted us with a Jeff Ruby onesie and bib for our baby on the way. We LOVE them and will be back for a future special date night.
Wonderful experience. It was my anniversary and my uncle's 81st birthday and he'd never been to Jeff Ruby's. We really enjoyed the experience and of course the wonderful food. Andrei was our waiter, which I had requested, and he made the evening very comfortable for those who'd never been to a fine dining restaurant. Thank you Andrei!!
The evening was perfect. My wife and I treated our best friends to a special night. The food was excellent, the fillets were of course delicious but every side dish was outstanding. The MAC and cheese was extravagant. The girls said the house made from scratch sour mix for the Lily 's have changed their lives!!!!
I unfortunately can't recall our waitresses name but she was the best ever!!!!!
