About Jeff Ruby's Steakhouse - Louisville
The first & only steakhouse of its kind in the Louisville area, Jeff Ruby's Steakhouse serves only dry-aged USDA prime beef. While steak is the foundation of the menu, Jeff Ruby's promises to please seafood lovers as well with its raw/sushi bar & seafood entrees.
Jeff Ruby regulars will be pleased to know that their favorite signature items from the Cincinnati restaurants will be well represented in Louisville. The bone-in filet, the 7 cheese baked macaroni, creamed spinach, truffle flake creamed corn, & of course Jeff Ruby's secret recipe cheesecake will all be staples of the Louisville menu.
Styled after the great NY steakhouses of the 1930's & 40's, Jeff Ruby's promises to be as pleasing visually as it is to the palate. French art-deco design, plush mohair upholstery, hand selected antique furniture and cinematic crystal chandeliers anchored by a 1950s-era antique featured in the Starz series Magic City and the 32 foot wall of wine.

Jeff Ruby's Steakhouse - Louisville Ratings and Reviews
Bread basket & butter - awesome
King Crab soup - phenomenal
8oz Filet (Medium Rare) - as good as ANY steak a I’ve ever eaten. My colleague has the Freddie salad and loved it. Lots of bacon. He also had the filet.
I wished I had ordered the bigger one because it was that good.
Only complaint is the noise level with the elevated piano in the bar and a packed house. Too much for my ears.
I was planning an anniversary for my girlfriend and was blown away by the service and the amount the help we received from the staff. It was both of our first times at Jeff Ruby’s and we will go again one day! Best food we have had at a restaurant ever. The steak, sushi, and even the salads are outstanding!
My husband and I went for his birthday. It was our second time eating here and couldn’t remember anything but great things about our first dinner. This one was not the same. We had to send out steaks back because they were clearly Red when we both requested well done. Now I’m fine with a little pink however they were Red. Our waiter was great and brought out plates for us to enjoy our side dishes. However the plates had hair on it. I had already sent back my green beans and steak so I did not want to complain anymore. For as much as you pay for dinner at Jeff Ruby’s the steaks should be perfect and the plates should be clean.
Great food, and great service. The bourbon list wasn't comprehensive and it was just a bit too expensive for me to go back anytime soon. 2 of us had apps, drinks, salad, steaks, and desert: It cost $354 ($424 w/ 20% tip) Just an fyi ;-)
Very disappointed in our meal. The first time ever have we sent back a steak in all the years we have been coming to Jeff Rubys. Also the butter for the lobster was very cold not only once but twice. The spinach side dish was also cold . We did not have an enjoyable meal.
Treated my spouse and my parents to a surprise early Christmas dinner. With three appetizers, four entrees, two desserts, three coffees, and a soft drink, plus tip, our total came to a little over $400 -- so Jeff Ruby's is pricey, but it is very worth it.
My spouse had the Shrimp & Grits appetizer, while I had the Seared Ahi Tuna, and my parents split the Freddie Salad. The Ahi was phenomenal: it was tender, seared perfectly, and complemented wonderfully by the accoutrement on the plate. I did not taste the salad, but the shrimp & grits were savory, comforting, and filling. Be warned: if you eat it all, you may not have room for your entree.
My Seared Scottish Salmon (I am not a red meat eater) was almost anti-climactic after the Ahi, but it was good. My spouse and my father each had a medium-rare filet mignon, and raved about their "perfect" steaks. My mother opted for the Cowboy Steak; she is extremely picky about her steaks, to the point of being unsatisfiable, but enjoyed her ribeye. For our sides, we split the mashed potatoes, macaroni and cheese, and roasted vegetables. All were excellent. The mashed potatoes were smooth and fluffy, and were flavorful without overdoing the salt and butter. I was particularly surprised by how good the vegetables were, as most restaurants tend to treat vegetable sides as mere "also-rans."
Our desserts (the blackberry cobbler and apple cake) were good, but failed to dazzle us like the first two courses.
It was a bit crowded when we went, but we had reservations and were seated quickly. We enjoyed the live band. Together with the size of the crowd there that night, it was pretty "lively" atmosphere, but the noise wasn't so overpowering we couldn't hold a conversation. The busy dining room did mean a longish wait for our food, but we never felt we had been abandoned; the serving staff there was excellent, courteous, and attentive.
All in all, money well spent.
Warmly greeted & promptly seated. Wait staff inquired as to whether we were on time restraint & promised meal would be out with plenty of time to get to play. It was. Attentive without overbearing. Steak was perfectly cook with superb flavor. Only complaint is waiter referred to my daughter & myself as "dear". I realize dear, sweetie, honey are often used in the south but would expect it in diner not fine dining establishment.
I had the "huge" ribeye and it was prepared perfectly! Reservations were made over a month ago and at that time we requested a table; however we were seated at a booth which was a little uncomfortable. They were absolutely filled to the max so it was the only thing available. We ask again if there was a table and was told it would be about 45 minutes, so we settled in the best we could at our booth. Then to our surprise the manager came over and said we will move you to a table that just became available. What is so amazing about this move is they could have placed 6 people at this table, but were willing to give it up for 2 people. Very impressive! We can hardly wait to go again and this time we will take the children and other friends. Also, great service and great desserts! I would suggest the delicious carrot cake be warmed prior to be served.
