Jeff Ruby's Steakhouse - Columbus
I’m overweight, and they tried to sit us at a booth, although their tables are bolted to the floor. It was embarrassing and irritating, especially since we had to wait 10 minutes past our late reservation time of 9:30PM before they even tried to MIS-seat us. Luckily, they were able to move us to a table.
Then the bread was so tough and chewy you could crack a tooth. The corn chowder is fantastic, but gigantic and super filling. They need to warn you it’s a meal before you order it.
My guest and I spilt a wedge salad, and my plate was way, way over saturated in dressing, which ruins a salad for me. Then the waiter, who dropped a fork twice while serving us, had to break it to my guest that they ran out of chicken for their chicken Parmesan, so she had to order the burger instead. The waiter never asked her how she wanted it done. It came medium rare, at best, as most of it was raw.
Also, I ordered the steak Dianne, which is supposed to be prepared table-side, and for over $50, why not? But the waiter suggested I have the chef make it in the kitchen instead, “Because he does it way better than me.” I obliged the lazy waiter, still embarrassed by previously not fitting in the booth.
Overall, the food and service were both incredibly mediocre for the price. The check came out to $215. Being a sap, I tipped $40 anyway. So that’s $255 for a very so-so dinner at an extremely overrated generic steakhouse, albeit one with a fun, lively atmosphere and decor.
The food, the staff, the ambiance- it’s always exceptional.
Very expensive, but well worth it for special occasion.
Amazing as always!! Love the buckeye cake!!
Our server and helpers seemed scattered. We had to wait a half hour for bread. We were told four times it was in the oven. Our drinks took an unusual long time to be served. The server didn’t know how to poor champagne so the bubbles were lost. Two of us order the Wagyu steak but there wasn’t enough for both orders. This was a Friday evening and there wasn’t enough steak! No excuse. Fortunately the food that came was wonderful and we celebrated our family birthday with bananas foster.
Great restaurant! Great service! Fabulous food! Highly recommend!
Amazing staff from top down, bar staff is second to none!!
Great service, terrific ambiance and the meal and drinks were first rate. Definitely going back.
Steak was excellent along with the Oysters and dessert. Sides were very good, but not quite at the same level of preparation and quality as the other items we had. Overall a great meal. Glad Columbus has some upscale restaurants like Jeff Ruby's. Nice wine list.
My family and I had a fabulous experience at Jeff Ruby's. Tim was our waiter and he is an absolute professional, kept drinks filled, attentive and anticipated our needs, without huvering. Steaks were cooked to perfection. My son said the Cowboy Ribeye was best steak he has ever had... Much better than another high end steak house in Columbus. Several of us had the 8 oz filets, with various butters, one had the New York Strip, and Chicken Parmesan. Six of us shared three sides... we sampled the grilled asparagus, baked macaroni and cheese, and potato gratin... all were just delicious. Oh, and then there's the desserts... Carrot Cake, Creme Brulee, Cheese Cake, and some kind of berry torte, all thumbs up ... If you have not tried Jeff Ruby's make a reservation soon, you won't be disappointed.
Outstanding meal once again. Avoid bar high stools. Not comfortable for a $300 meal.
The food was salty and cold. Certainly not worth the cost.
Excellent meal and service
I am very surprised to give this rating, but the experience we had this past Friday was very disappointing. My husband and I were continuing our tradition of celebrating our anniversary at Jeff Ruby’s as we had our rehearsal dinner at the Precinct. We up until now have always had an impeccable experience, but this year fell very short of that. The evening started out well, but went down hill shortly there after. I had ordered a glass of wine that took about 15 mins to arrive to the table. After we had placed our order we watched two tables who had been seated long after us receive bread service before we were even asked if we would like some. We had also placed an order for Oyster Rockefeller that never was brought to the table and never acknowledged by our server that it he had forgot to ring it in.
As expected our entrees were very well prepared, as well as the desserts we ordered to go. However the delicious food was greatly overshadowed by the lacking service. When coming to Jeff Ruby’s you are well prepared for the price point of the check, but know in return that you will receive a dining experience that will be nothing short of superb. As stated before we unfortunately did not have that this time and left wishing our experience had been more like year’s past.
THE best steak house in Columbus. a great experience and we will be back!
We brought family that have never been here. They can’t stop talking about how great everything was and great food
Great food, atmosphere and drinks. I really like how they are passionate about the food and ensuring everything is to your liking. It’s expensive but it really is a cut above the rest.
Omg!!! What an amazing experience. From start to finish, everything was perfect. We went in for our anniversary and the Ruby’s team really made us feel special. All the sushi is fresh and beautifully displayed. Definitely get the crab cake!! It was fantastic. Service by Justin was impeccable. We never needed for anything. Great service, great food, beautiful ambiance. A perfect evening!
Superb steaks and service!
I was very excited to try this restaurant so we went to celebrate our 15th wedding anniversary. Sadly it didn’t live up to my expectations. On the minus side we spent 160.00 for two meals I could have gotten at Longhorn and enjoyed more. The food wasn’t bad- it just wasn’t good enough to have cost so much. I had an 8oz filet mignon and my husband had halibut. We shared a side of creamed spinach and each had a glass of wine. The best thing was the cheesecake we shared.
Now to the plus side- the wait staff was amazing! He was attentive, kind and ready to accommodate our needs! I also liked how they gave a free Tony dessert sampler since we are celebrating. The ambiance was really amazing and the fact that they took a picture of us and printed it out right there to commemorate our special night was fabulous!
But I don’t think I would go back except maybe to try the sushi!
Best steak I've ever had. If you're looking for an upscale place to go in Columbus, this is definitely the one to go to. Just expect a hefty bill.
Amazing food and service! Celebrating 35 years of marriage ! Great choices on the menu . Definitely great experience! The bread and butter absolutely delightful!and the complimentary cheesecake was a sweet surprise and is a new favorite! flavor sooo good !
The food was very good - as usual. Rachael, our server, excelled at making us feel welcome, the service was perfect.
Service and food are beyond words...truly an all around fabulous evening!!
Wonderful place food is always good, service was not the greatest this time, but we still enjoyed it.
The food and service was excellent. I just wish it wasn't quite so dark in there. My old eyes struggled to read the menu and our anniversary photo was very dark. Otherwise I thoroughly enjoyed eating there.
Wonderful experience from start to finish!
A little annoyed that I had made reservations two weeks prior but when I arrived (15 minutes early) I had a half hour wait past my scheduled time.
Other than that, no complaints. The food was outstanding.
The food was amazing. Thank you to Jordan, Max, and Sebastian for being attentive and knowledgeable on the entire menu. My friends and I had an amazing evening celebrating my birthday, and the three of them were a welcomed addition to the occasion.
My first visit but it won't be the last. We were a party of eight and were seated downstairs. Very intimate. Service was excellant and food was delicious.
Service was impeccable. Our server Jordan F took amazing care of us, was on top of our every need and all around fantastic!!!!!
Steaks over cooked but that could be an anomaly. Have dined at all JR’s in Cincinnati. Certainly get the benefit of the doubt. Management and servers very good.
Birthday dinner and was amazing
We went to Jeff Ruby’s for the special, steak and shrimp. As an appetizer, we ordered the bacon. We had it on a previous visit and it was great. This time it was really greasy and REALLY fatty. The server took a few pieces back to cook it longer but that did not seem to make a difference. We will never get the bacon again. Consistency is what we had hoped for. On the other hand the steak and shrimp were good. We will go back but just not for the bacon.
Wonderful food and great service. One of the best places I’ve been to in Columbus!
Service/experience was much better than prev visit in Dec2018. Food was excellent and presented as ordered. Server was very friendly and accommodating. The only disappointment was that not all the food requested to be boxed up was included. It was not enough to warrant a phone call to the restaurant, but just wanted to bring it to your attention. We should have looked before we left, but it didn't occur to us to check.
4th Wedding Anniversary. Our waiter Tim and helper Max were on point. Very personable and experienced. I asked about history of Jeff Ruby. I met Mr. Ruby’s son. He also was very engaging. The atmosphere and ambiance of the place was outstanding. This was our first visit and will go back again.
Hello, it was our third time here. We were definitely not disappointed. We were seated in the Venetian room and what a treat. Beautiful!! We had the summer special and it was amazing. We are always treated with the utmost care. The staff is so attentive, we couldn’t have ask for anything more FYI, the Espresso Martini was the bomb. ❤️
The only thing I would improve is the cleanliness on the way to the bathroom including the staircase and hallways leading to bathroom.
