Jeanne D'Arc is an elegant yet reasonably priced French restaurant located near Nob Hill and Union Square in the Cornell Hotel de France. Replete with tapestries, stained glass and artifacts, the decor celebrates the life and deeds of France's legendary heroine, Joan of Arc.
Founded by the Lambert family in 1972, the restaurant is a favorite of locals and visitors. Jeanne D'Arc offers a prix fixe menu and a cellar of well chosen California and Frence wines. The restaurant is perfect for before-curtain supper, a gathering of good friends, or romance with conversation.
Prix Fixe: $52/pers
Perfect. Wonderful food, perfect service and the atmosphere is authentic France a few blocks from nob hill. A magical place.
We have enjoyed this restaurant several times previously and will again. Truly an opportunity to be transported in mind to France. This New Year's Eve event was "magnifique". Best lobster bisque ever. The escargot were scrumptious. The halibut and duck entrees were done to perfection. And of course we ended with one of the house specialties - - Grande Marnier soufflé. All accompanied by a Nuits St George burgundy and wonderful musical entertainment. Kudos to the two tenors.
Great French food in a fantastic, cozy setting... like stepping into a painting. On Sat. nights and special occasions, there is live music. It's a fixed price menu and worth every penny. They have a nice (and not too expensive) wine list too. We were there New Year's Eve, which is is truly special. Wonderful restaurant.
As a native San Franciscan, I am quite stunned that I had never eaten at this place! After reading several recent reviews and hearing from some acquaintances about the restaurant,we decided to try it for ourselves. Quite a delightful surprise. Tucked away in the basement of a downtown hotel, the place has charm and elegance. The wait staff was efficient and infomotive. The food was terrific. Will definitely try again.
We had a prix fixe New Year's eve meal. All dishes were well curated and superb. The choices were amazingly extensive, favoring complicated country dishes. The price of a four course meal (including souffle, if you chose it) was $52 ... unbelievable. I've been to Paris many times and this place transported me back.
Jeanne D'Arc is a wonderful find. It's like being transported to France and while not cheap, it's a bargain for what it delivers.
This restaurant in the basement of a hotel is decorated like a dungeon, with lots of statues of Jeanne d'Arc, as is fitting. The decor means this is not stuffy at all, despite the fairly high-quality traditional French cuisine. I would say in fact that is is fun. The neighborhood may seem a bit sketchy, with a gay strip club next door, though I thought that rather added to the interesting ambiance.
At around $50 the four course prix-fixe menu felt like a bargain - soup, entree, main course and dessert with lots of choice. The escargots (6) were quite good, the noisettes d'agneau perfectly prepared, and grand mariner soufflé was excellent. I would definitely go back for a special occasion.
A true french experience
