The maitre’d , Juanes, was extremely rude and unaccommodating. We arrived as a party of 6 and were sat at a table for 10 outside. We asked if we could be moved to table that was more appropriate for 6 people and were told Absolutely not, as they were fully booked and couldn’t make any changes to our table (4 adults, 2 kids).
Another table sat next to us about 10 mins later, same situation (6 people at a 10-top) and they proceeded to complain as well.
Juanes, for whatever reason, decided it was appropriate to accommodate them and move them to another area where he made them their own 6-top in a different (better) area closer to the heat lamps and main dining area.
When we confronted him about this, he had no answer other than “there was a different situation that took place”
He comped our drinks on the bill, which was nice, but we were treated like second class citizens in a restaurant that we frequent year-round.
Not good for business and not standard for a JG restaurant.
Food was ok, was expecting more exciting dishes.
Overall disappointing and frustrating experience. The restaurant itself is nice and the food definitely tasty, but we experienced extremely poor service from start to finish and I wish we could have avoided this place all together. Did not expect such a seemingly nice restaurant to provide such a low quality experience. No bread dishes, drinks brought to the table so late the table has already been entirely cleared of food, incorrect check and no explanation from the server, and given the runaround when calling back to the restaurant later in the evening to discuss incorrect pending charges. Manager was ultimately nice over the phone, and helpful. Wish it had never gotten to that point. Again, wish we could have avoided this place all together.
We were there for a special occasion and the place did not disappoint. After an unfortunate seating next to what looked like a bachelorette party, we were moved to a quiter bar room, which was perfect. The staff was attentive, polite and knowledgeable. For the most part the food was solid and well executed, if not particularly imaginative or creative. The only problem was with the chanterelle and morel mushroom side that accompanied the sea bass. It was very gritty, which traveled to the fish a bit because of the jus. The restaurant offered a replacement side, but did not offer to replace the entire dish or take it off the bill or send a complimentary drink or dessert, which is usually what high end establishments do in these cases. However, overall it was still a very good experience and the chocolate dessert was the star of the night. I would definitely go again.
As a high end restaurant, with a celebrity chef name tag, in an expensive hotel in the Hamptons, this restaurant is trying to go for luxury and affluence, but they just didn’t measure up. I left overwhelmed and hungry.
The service was just ok, my classic Manhattan was awful and had to be sent back as they used the incorrect vermouth, and all the food was delicious, but tiny, overpriced and most importantly, cold.
Further, they sent an email to their mailing list that they were running restaurant week for the entire month of May, but failed to mention that it was only Monday- Thursday... I hate it when people are purposefully misleading.
Although it was mothers day we went to celebrate a birthday. Brunch was pre fix and not noted asthe only option when i made the reservation. The choices were acceptable. Weboth ordered ny strip steak. It was half edible with much grizzle and improperly cooked. I would not have served that in my home. Its overpriced for what it is. Just a place with a reputation it no longer deserves. We wont go back!
Honestly the service at Topping Rose House was incredible. It is a really nice restaurant, but they make every single person feel special and important when you walk in. The food was absolutely incredible and I can't wait to go back.
I go there frequently and when I make a reservation I always ask for a specific seating. Even when I book two weeks in advance I never get the seating I request. It is very frustrating.
Fabulous server and amazing food!
Very good food in a great setting. There was a private party the night of our visit, so it may have had a negative impact on the service.
Amazing food! Each course was delicious and service impeccable. The ambiance is lovely and laid back.
Finally got a chance to try Topping Rose thanks to restaurant week. And we were not disappointed. A little noisy since it was Friday night and we were seated in bar area. But food and service was exactly what we hoped for.
Our server was excellent, knowledgeable, friendly and efficient.
We always enjoy dining at Jean-Georges at Topping Rose House. This particular evening, however, was so noisy that we had to yell to our friends we were dining with to be heard. Not sure why (could have been the table of 6 men) but it was very unpleasant.
We love coming here.
For a restaurant of this class, we expected better service and a little more ambiance. But the food was outstanding. We absolutely loved the black truffle pizza.
I tried Topping Rose for the 4th time this week after being disappointed with the food previously and taking a year off. Still needs work. Atmosphere in the dining room is lovely and service is good but the food is oddly spiced and not up to Jean-Georges standards in New York. One dish (crispy calamari) was so badly over-salted that it was inedible (and I like salt). A beautiful veal chop entree was horribly over-spiced, with cayenne I think, and very hot (and I also like HOT). Odd. And the wines by the glass are the worst selection of any restaurant out east. Tried three reds and they all flunked terribly. Switched to bourbon.
The most innovative modern cuisine in the Hamptons
Loved everything on the menu! Service was amazing!
A BIG DISSAPOINTMENT ; FOOD WAS COLD, NOT FLAVORFUL AT ALL, LONG WAITS BETWEEN COURSES (MAYBE ACCOUNTS FOR THE 2ND COURSE BEING COLD - LAMB) DINNING ROOM TOO INFORMAL IE CHEAP BISTRO STYLE.
The last time I visited Topping Rose, I had a wonderful experience. So it saddens me to write a poor review for the experience I had there with my husband this past Sunday. The gentleman who seated us was pleasant. But then our server arrived and he had absolutely no personality. He never smiled, he barely responded to us at all. We were given the glass and cocktail list when we sat down, but not the bottle list. So I asked for it and chose a lovely Bordeaux. We put in our food order and received our appetizers before our bottle even arrived. When we asked for our wine, several minutes later our server came back with it but presented the bottle to my husband to confirm the selection and to taste, even though I had selected the bottle. I’m a wine professional so this really gets under my skin. Then he left to open the bottle behind the wall instead of tableside, which I found rather unconventional. To top it all off, when I made our reservation via OpenTable, I notated that we would be celebrating my birthday, and no one so much as wished me a happy birthday the entire time we were there. There was absolutely no acknowledgement. Luckily the food was delicious but the server (Ryan C., per our bill), seemed so unhappy to be there that it really took away from our experience. Never in my life have I given a poor review about a server but we were blown away by his poor attitude. It’s a shame because I have recommended Topping Rose to many friends.
Always lovely here. Food presented beautifully.
The always good menu had a few new items. Best modern cuisine restaurant in the Hamptons.
Great food, beautiful surroundings, friendly and informed service, great people watching, welcoming to our two kids... what more could you ask?
The wait staff & the host were extremely rude & unprofessional.
One of the most wonderful dining experiences in the Hamptons.
Amazing brunch... my favorite spot in the Hamptons! The lobster Benedict is to die for!
The food snd service is always good - we"ve never had a bad meal.
What an amazing and delightful dining experience. From the moment we entered this lovely space, we were treated as valued guests. The food was excellent as was the wine. This has become a favorite, and we hope to return often.
Food was great and service was amazing! Mark was the bartender and helped us fine a great wine. The salmon sushi was the best thing we had!
Meal was delicious and service was *, as to be expected. Only disappointing thing was the dessert! Bread pudding was very hard and cold in the middle. Good thing I was so happy with everything else so it didn't ruin my meal, was just unexpected.
Sometimes you get a restaurant that just knows how to hit all the right notes. Food, service, ambiance. Various sources prepared me for prices in the Hamptons to be jaw-dropping, but I thought J-G at Topping Rose House was very reasonably priced for the quality.
Was pleasantly surprised by the fresh, house-made sodas. Inventive and unexpected! It's so nice to have non-alcoholic options, espeically when you have to drive.
Great rustic chic atmosphere & buzzy vibe (bar gets crowded during peak dinner time). Very fresh delicious dishes...creamy buratta, tuna tartare, fantastic Parmesan crusted chicken (super tender, moist, & flavorful!)! Warm friendly service, especially one of the owners who manned the bar who was extremely hospitable! Also lovely, modern, casually elegant, very comfortable accommodations @ the hotel!
Topping Rose continues to be probably the best overall restaurant in the Hamptons. The food is simply excellent, creative and yet hearty and filling. Some of the same dishes are seen at The Mark and other Jean-Georges restaurants. Portions are not large by any means, but are ample. Prices, considering it is a Jean-Georges restaurant, are high but fair. Considering the mid-February time of the year, the ambience and crowd was mostly over 45, well heeled couples likely Hamptons homeowners and year-rounders. Service is adequate, with few if any mistakes. With $40+ entrees one would expect tablecloths and more substantial glassware and cutlery, but somehow the beachy, casual-chic table settings aren't off-putting. The key to Topping Rose is this: almost every good restaurant on the South Fork now has entrees in the $40+ range. Even restaurants that really are just local joints with uneven food and service. So, if you're going to pay that freight, why not go where you are assured of a near-perfect, internationally tested meal? Topping Rose has become our default place when we want to go big.
The meal was exquisite & the service exceptional. The room is intimate & lively. I can’t wait to get back here again.
Just a totally weird experience
We have been there a bunch of times and always loved it but this time they were confused about the menu, forgot many requests (and there weren’t very many), and just generally did not manage our experience
Perfect! The food & service were excellent. Absolutely an exceptional dining experience.
We reserved during restaurant week to take advantage of the special menu and pricing. We were surprised then to find out that our reservation at 7:45 PM was ineligible as it was after 7 PM. No where on the website was that indicated, nor was it in the promotional email from OpenTable. It may have been the restaurant's policy, but it certainly should have been made clear to someone booking through this site.
Loved the meal. Prepared and served beautifully
I frequent this restaurant often but the dinner I had Friday night was one of the best I have ever had there. They have one of the best bartenders too - Mike is the best!
Can't wait to go back!
