About Jean Farris Winery & Bistro
From its inception, Jean Farris has embraced our families’ history in agriculture, and, our passion for fine cuisine. With us, wine is best when sharing a table with good friends and good food.
Here on the estate we grow our own fruits, vegetables, herbs, eggs, and honey to use in the winery and in the kitchen. We serve our farm products with the wine, beer, and spirits that speak of our region. To us "Home-made" is a practice not a philosophy. With that our menu changes several times a year, reflecting the seasons. Staying in time and in touch with the cycles of seasons and what is naturally available to us.
We look forward to having you joining us at our table and sharing a night at Jean Farris.

Jean Farris Winery & Bistro Ratings and Reviews
Sirloin steak was tough. I had to saw at it with a steak knife. Didn't look like a sirloin steak. You get a better steak at Longhorn, Malone's, or home for half the price. My steak was cut in half when it arrived and the waiter waited while my wife cut into her filet to see if it was medium. Chief must not know how to cook a medium steak. I typically don't do reviews or complain but the last time I ordered a steak here it was a NY strip. That was worse than this time but figured it was a one-off. Had to ask for rolls that were lukewarm and really nothing special. Too bad, we usually saved JF for special occasions. If we do go back we will probably stay away from beef. Seems to be a weakness.
Our first visit to Jean Farris was really pleasant. We did three flights of tastings of dry wines which included both reds and whites (there were 2 semi sweets in the white wine tasting). Our opinion was that the food quality out shined the quality of the wine. Service was with Jessica whom we felt very comfortable with as she was patient and attentive. We can see where summertime would be a great time to visit again!
For a Holiday meal, surprisingly, the restaurant was not crowded during the late afternoon seating. My spouse and I found the room quiet, understated - the staff polite & attentive. Our choice of wine was suitable for both the game & fowl selections, but seemed remarkably well-paired with the flan, which turned out to be the highlight of the meal - quite delicious with a velvet texture.
We took home several bottles from the winery - too bad we could not have doggy-bagged some of that scrumptious flan.
I specifically made reservations for Thanksgiving because their website did not have a limited menu. Then we got there and there was a limited menu. I did not enjoy the main dish. The soup and dessert were both good. If they are going to have a limited menu for a holiday, they need to put it on their website a month ahead.
We had a lovely time at Jean Farris Winery this past week. The UK game was on the TV in the bar area with the volume turned low. People could watch or not watch and it was not intrusive. We had a lovely meal with our friends. The burgers are wonderful and all of us enjoyed the food and wine. We will definitely return.
This was our second visit in 2 years (this time for our anniversary). We were seated on time and our service was outstanding. We tested some cheese and tested a few wines to start - all excellent. We both ordered sirloin steaks, which were fine, but not outstanding. My wife's steak was undercooked, but the kitchen handled it promptly. Overall, a nice dinner, but it didn't leave the same impression as our first visit. We would, however, consider it an overall positive experience and recommend it to others.
Food was perfect. The ambiance and scenery was very nice, and it was quiet. It isn't high priced, but not low either, but worth the price in our opinion. The wind selection was pretty impressive and has all that most people need. Not a large food menu which was a good thing, but they had at least one of everything you might want, including awesome appetizers with cheese and meats, Desert menu was the most limited. The pork loin was great and the beef filet was equally great. Would recommend anyone to go there for a special dinner with your spouse, or a date, or anniversary. Wouldn't bring the kids though.
Jean Farris is one of our favorite dining spots. It is nice to be able to sit outside during the cooler fall weather and the view is stunning. We enjoy happy hour at the bar and the friendly staff and new friends we have met there. We have taken guests from out of town to dine there and they always ask to return to JF Winery whenever they return.
My mother and I "discovered" this place on a recent trip to Lexington. We plan to make a return trip and will definitely eat here again. The music was a delightful accompaniment to our meal. We both highly recommend Jean Farris to anyone looking for great food and an equally great location.
I was very hopeful that Jean Farris would be a great spot for a date. It is a beautiful venue with great outdoor and indoor seating available. However, the service was subpar and both steaks that my girlfriend and I ordered were absolutely terrible. We really couldn't do anything else but laugh at how bad they were. The steak was hardly able to even be cut, let alone chew. The wine and appetizers were just OK, but there are plenty of other good ways to spend $140 on dinner in Lexington. I will never go back.
Went for dinner and drinks but they were so understaffed we left prior to ordering. Other customers at surrounding tables were complaining about the very long waits and convinced us to go elsewhere. The two women working were trying to seat customers, tend the bar & wait on the tables.
I've had some great meals at JF but they seem to be having some troubles lately.
Our wine tasting experience was delightful and well presented. My friend had the most delicious bourbon cocktail of her life so that was 5 star worthy. Unfortunately, our dining experience was disappointing. Pork dish was extremely tough, the burger failed to impress. We did complain about the pork but no manager came over to address the issue or offer a remedy.
Lobster pasta was perfect, plenty of lobster. Only complaint is the duck didn't come with the carrot pot de creme but the dish was good over all. We had the Sophia cheese and duck sage sausage which were wonderful. We come here every year for my birthday and always have a lovely meal- I think this was our 7th or 8th year. Our server was very attentive and even brought a champagne toast which was completely unexpected and really made the night special.
My husband and I came to Jean Farris winery to celebrate our first wedding anniversary. We had a cute little seat on the patio with a view of the scenery and vineyards. My husband had the duck dish and I had the lobster pasta dish, both were delicious ( I think we both like the pasta over the dark though). We had several flights of wine so we could try different kinds. Our server was great and attentive and answered all of her questions. This was not by any means expected, but she did mention getting us a champagne toast since we were celebrating our wedding anniversary however she never did bring that back for us. Overall we had a great experience and will definitely return.
We love Jean Farris Winery! Our friends from out of town requested a trip here last weekend. It had been quite a while since we had all been there. The ambiance on the patio was superb and the cuisine delightful. However, the staff was frazzled and disorganized. The service at our table was terrible. Would love to go back but only with the assurance that the service has improved.
We dined on a Thursday night with a reservation and sat on the patio. This was very nice. The cheese board was good. The gluten free pasta was average, but the pork dishes were very good. The waiter was a bit forgetful and asked about dessert while we were still eating the main course. Overall, though, it was a nice experience.
We have dined at Jean Farris several times previously but not for about a year. The ambiance has always fallen short the quality of the food -- essentially patio furniture in an enclosed patio with cement floor that creates an echo chamber. But the food has always been good. Not so much last night. Our duck breast was overcooked and I made a bad choice in wine (Hellhound Red that I didn't finish drinking). All in all, a disappointing anniversary dinner. The bright spot was the service; it was good.
Always love this place. Great food and atmosphere. A nice change from the many restaurants within the city itself. The drive into the countryside to get to this lovely restaurant is definitely worth the time (only about a 15 minute drive from most locations in Lexington). This was the first time taking our college-aged children with us to Jean Farris and they were very impressed.
