About Jean Farris Winery & Bistro
From its inception, Jean Farris has embraced our families’ history in agriculture, and, our passion for fine cuisine. With us, wine is best when sharing a table with good friends and good food.
Here on the estate we grow our own fruits, vegetables, herbs, eggs, and honey to use in the winery and in the kitchen. We serve our farm products with the wine, beer, and spirits that speak of our region. To us "Home-made" is a practice not a philosophy. With that our menu changes several times a year, reflecting the seasons. Staying in time and in touch with the cycles of seasons and what is naturally available to us.
We look forward to having you joining us at our table and sharing a night at Jean Farris.

Jean Farris Winery & Bistro Ratings and Reviews
The food is really the only thing to critique. It was St. Valentine’s holiday. So, I’m sure they’d been busy. 1st course: lobster bisque & arugula salad were the best elements. They weren’t perfect. But they were well done, for fine dinning standards. Next , the entrées: “surf-n-turf” filet mignon and tdiver scallops with “loaded fingerling potatoes” besides poor temp. at presentation, the potatoes were a mess. I think of casseroles as dishes that are suited for potlucks, school lunch and less than skillful culinary artists. My date had the Halibut with macaroni-n-cheese. The Mac-n-cheese was over seasoned. But the Halibut was expertly cooked excluding neglecting to remove the fish fats that rise to the surface of white fish flesh.
The desserts were underwhelming in portion and execution. All I can say is, I’ll go back and hope it was the business of the dreaded holiday.
Of course you expect dinner at any restaurant to be busy on Valentine Day. But for it to take one hour and 45 minutes, for two people!Clearly, the kitchen was over taxed and wait staff at a loss to just sit and watch helplessly or continue to refill water and wine glasses.
Once we received our food it was tasty and well presented. We had just lost interest waiting 45 minutes after we ordered.
My wife and girlfriends eat here on regular basis; she says they have never had this kind of lapse. But even she recognized the inability of the kitchen to meet the larger crowd.
We had an outstanding Valentine’s Day experience!!! I read through some of the negative comments and to be honest, we didn’t experience any of the complaints. Food was outstanding, service was exceptional, and the ambiance was fantastic. A little on the pricier side as far as the menu went but it was worth every penny. Can’t wait for warmer weather to go back and enjoy the patio! Overall we had a very enjoyable experience and would highly recommend going and seeing for yourself!
Valentine’s Day:-). Jean Farris is a quaint place that makes you feel like you’re on vacation in wine country:-).
Delicious food and great service! I always go for the scallops or the filet:-). The bar serves more than the Jean Farris wines . Beautiful sunsets!
Food was burnt and cold. Potatoes had 1/4 inch thick of bottom burnt to a crisp. Food was presented on the plate with burnt portions hidden. I don’t know how staff cut the potatoes it was so thick, burnt and crisp. The fact that they served this food to a customer says a lot about the way the owner treats their staff. Our server could tell something was wrong but refused to acknowledge it to us. I will not pay $140 for bad wine, burnt and cold food. Never had such poor service or food in my life.
We celebrated Valentine's Day early at Jean Farris. We LOVED our dinner. The wine was good, Cheese and sausages were so so good, and the dinner was good. I don't eat a lot of red meat so they were so nice and accommodated me by changing the surf and turf from steak to chicken. We had the patio all to ourselves. The inside was busy but it was nice being able to talk.
We had a lovely time at Jean Farris. We like to come for happy hour before our meal. There are always new special cocktails to try and our favorites are also available. Our meals were perfectly cooked and delicious. We came with another couple who also had a fabulous time. Jean Farris is our favorite dining spot.
Sirloin steak was tough. I had to saw at it with a steak knife. Didn't look like a sirloin steak. You get a better steak at Longhorn, Malone's, or home for half the price. My steak was cut in half when it arrived and the waiter waited while my wife cut into her filet to see if it was medium. Chief must not know how to cook a medium steak. I typically don't do reviews or complain but the last time I ordered a steak here it was a NY strip. That was worse than this time but figured it was a one-off. Had to ask for rolls that were lukewarm and really nothing special. Too bad, we usually saved JF for special occasions. If we do go back we will probably stay away from beef. Seems to be a weakness.
Our first visit to Jean Farris was really pleasant. We did three flights of tastings of dry wines which included both reds and whites (there were 2 semi sweets in the white wine tasting). Our opinion was that the food quality out shined the quality of the wine. Service was with Jessica whom we felt very comfortable with as she was patient and attentive. We can see where summertime would be a great time to visit again!
For a Holiday meal, surprisingly, the restaurant was not crowded during the late afternoon seating. My spouse and I found the room quiet, understated - the staff polite & attentive. Our choice of wine was suitable for both the game & fowl selections, but seemed remarkably well-paired with the flan, which turned out to be the highlight of the meal - quite delicious with a velvet texture.
We took home several bottles from the winery - too bad we could not have doggy-bagged some of that scrumptious flan.
I specifically made reservations for Thanksgiving because their website did not have a limited menu. Then we got there and there was a limited menu. I did not enjoy the main dish. The soup and dessert were both good. If they are going to have a limited menu for a holiday, they need to put it on their website a month ahead.
We had a lovely time at Jean Farris Winery this past week. The UK game was on the TV in the bar area with the volume turned low. People could watch or not watch and it was not intrusive. We had a lovely meal with our friends. The burgers are wonderful and all of us enjoyed the food and wine. We will definitely return.
This was our second visit in 2 years (this time for our anniversary). We were seated on time and our service was outstanding. We tested some cheese and tested a few wines to start - all excellent. We both ordered sirloin steaks, which were fine, but not outstanding. My wife's steak was undercooked, but the kitchen handled it promptly. Overall, a nice dinner, but it didn't leave the same impression as our first visit. We would, however, consider it an overall positive experience and recommend it to others.
Food was perfect. The ambiance and scenery was very nice, and it was quiet. It isn't high priced, but not low either, but worth the price in our opinion. The wind selection was pretty impressive and has all that most people need. Not a large food menu which was a good thing, but they had at least one of everything you might want, including awesome appetizers with cheese and meats, Desert menu was the most limited. The pork loin was great and the beef filet was equally great. Would recommend anyone to go there for a special dinner with your spouse, or a date, or anniversary. Wouldn't bring the kids though.
Jean Farris is one of our favorite dining spots. It is nice to be able to sit outside during the cooler fall weather and the view is stunning. We enjoy happy hour at the bar and the friendly staff and new friends we have met there. We have taken guests from out of town to dine there and they always ask to return to JF Winery whenever they return.
My mother and I "discovered" this place on a recent trip to Lexington. We plan to make a return trip and will definitely eat here again. The music was a delightful accompaniment to our meal. We both highly recommend Jean Farris to anyone looking for great food and an equally great location.
I was very hopeful that Jean Farris would be a great spot for a date. It is a beautiful venue with great outdoor and indoor seating available. However, the service was subpar and both steaks that my girlfriend and I ordered were absolutely terrible. We really couldn't do anything else but laugh at how bad they were. The steak was hardly able to even be cut, let alone chew. The wine and appetizers were just OK, but there are plenty of other good ways to spend $140 on dinner in Lexington. I will never go back.
