We had a delicious dinner (cheese plate followed by a burger for my fiancé that he described as “maybe the best burger he had ever had” and scallops for me). We also enjoyed a red wine flight and a couple of delightful handmade cocktails. The service was exceptional from the warm greetings as we entered and were seated to the knowledgeable server who helped us make decisions on what to order. Perfect place for date night!
Exceptional meal and service at Jean Farris yesterday. The fig salad was particular delicious and the bourbon pimento cheese was delightful. We also enjoyed the pork with the Jean Farris brussel sprouts - yum.
It is wonderful to watch this family owned business continue to thrive. Jeanie's (the owner) daughter was our server - she was home for the holidays helping her mom!
Anyway, this fabulous restaurant is a lovely change from chain restaurants and my husband and I highly recommend
We enjoyed the atmosphere so much - especially during the pandemic. We were the only diners for Saturday brunch (1pm) so had the place to ourselves. We were relaxed and not worried about a packed restaurant. We enjoyed the Jean Farris Merlot and the French Onion soup very much. I had the scallops with sweet potato gnocchi. The scallops were cooked well, but I did not like the cream sauce and the apples. My hubby got the pork and he highly recommends this (I don't eat pork so didn't taste it but it looked good). The chocolate lava cake was a fantastic end to the meal. We will be back!
Everyone was so nice and accommodating. Good food and atmosphere.
The food was delicious and the service was efficient.
Food was excellent, best Duck Ive ever had. It was New Year’s eve, I suspect they were busier than normal so had to get wait staff with minimal experience, they were slow, not knowledgeable about menu, awkward at the table. Need basic guest service training.
I ordered a Smoked Manhattan described on menu as having Luxardo Cherry. It was a regular cherry. Big difference. When you describe it as a Luxardo that’s what you expect when it’s served. That’s as bad as serving instant potatoes
They make own crackers that are outstanding, Fried Green Tomatoes excellent.
If the service equaled the food this place would be amazing. I will return, for the food. With patience for the service.
Great New Years Eve dinner at Jean Farris. Food, service and wine never disappoint at this restaurant!
New Year’s Eve
The food was fantastic as was the service! I just love their cosmopolitans! It’s always a fun and delicious dining experience at Jean Farris!
I took my two daughters for a girls night out. We had amazing food and service. So good that I booked it for myself and my husband and one of my son’s for New Years Eve.
Jean Farris is one of our favorites! It’s so special and every experience has been perfect, always exceeding expectations going above and beyond. The owners treat you like family and we can’t wait to visit again.
Absolutely excellent, we had the Christmas Prix Fixe and loved every course, quite filling too. Service was attentive and courteous, will be back again!
Lovely food, wine and service!
It is always a pleasure to try the ever changing and locally sourced menu and unique cocktails and wine.
Our waiter was very knowledgeable and attentive. Definitely recommend!
The venue and location was remote and exactly what we were looking for. Great service, food, and wine tastings.
Delicious duck, filet, sweet potatoes, butcher board
Nice bistro and super helpful staff. The ambiance is wonderful.
Service could be improved - our server really didn't know much about the wines or what as offered as cheeses and meats. Also, she was wearing tattered clothes, so I think they should consider dressing a bit more appropriately for the restaurant. And one of the other servers was so loud in talking that we couldn't hear ourselves at the tables. Overall, wine is good and food is good, although a bit expensive for the level of ambiance and service that you receive.
Good drinks. Food could use improvements. Service was average as was food.
Lovely afternoon with friends despite the COVID patio restrictions..Definitely will return.
Great experience! Really great place during covid with outdoor seating. Warm fire. Excellent prices for drinks and food
Great food and great service. The specialty cocktails were fun and tasted great!
Love this place!! Happy hour adds great value! The food and service was amazing!
The food was fresh and delicious!!
The food is always delicious!!! The dining room is very comfortable and welcoming! We love visiting Jean Farris!
Wonderful place for a date or group
Every time we visit Jean Farris, it’s an excellent experience!
We visited several locally owned restaurants during our trip to Lexington and this was our favorite. The ambiance is unbeatable. The restaurant is located out in the countryside of Lexington on a large farm with vineyards. The weather was an unusual 75 degrees so we started our dinner on the patio overlooking the farm but then moved into the dining room after sunset. I started with the Garden Tonic cocktail which was refreshing and unique with an order of fried green tomato. Our meal was fluid and comfortable, each course was delivered a few minutes after we finished the previous course and we never felt rushed. To end we shared the cookies & milk dessert which comes with a delicious bourbon chocolate milkshake. I will definitely return to this restaurant.
She poured our water and there was grass and hair in our cups. The food was ok. Nothing to special.
First visit. Very nice. Will return.
Lexington, do not forget about this local jewel. I just dined there with my family this past weekend and we had a wonderful evening. The service was not up to the standard that we've experienced here before, however, the food, atmosphere, and the people will still exceed expectations.
If you're looking for nice, quiet evening without the crowds, Jean Farris is the place for you!
We normally love this restaurant and have been long time diners here. Usually our experience is above average, however we will not be dining here again until the pandemic is over. One waiter was walking throughout the restaurant without a mask all night long. Our waitress was working with her mask pulled down, not covering her nose and most of her mouth. There was a sign on the door that required masks, but patrons were walking to their tables and around the restaurant without masks and there was no redirection from staff. When we got our food, it was cold, undercooked and we sat for almost an hour without any contact from a waitperson. We had no water for most of the meal. There were few diners so there was no excuse for the slow and distracted service. Extremely disappointing experience from a previously favorite hangout. I suggest the restaurant learn to pivot and adhere to safety guidelines if they want to keep customers.
I love tp support small buisness' as much as i can and my husband had been here several years in the past and loved it, this time not so much.
The servers were wearing t-shirt and jeans. Had to ask for silverware, no water refills, took a while to receive our orders. Ordered the $30 filet mingnon medium and came out crispy and well done. Sent it back and came out medium but had no seasoning, no flavor. The bistro was not busy, but was apparently low on staff, because our cook was also the bar tender. The patio had overgrown weeds and had the propane tanks right next to the fire pits.
Food overall was blah, and not worth the price you pay. I could have gone to J Alexanders and had much better food and service for the same price.
Such a disappointment.
Food and staff is amazing - if you are a true wine lover, don’t order the wine. Stick to bourbon.
At first was told the chef was running later, then told that all of the proteins were frozen and had to be thawed and the only thing available was the charcuterie board. We had that and went somewhere else. Would never go to a place knowing that they freeze and defrost their food on a weekend (or any other time, for that matter).
We have been waiting to try Jean Farris again since the Covid adjustments. We love your restaurant and we always enjoy coming there but this visit was a little different as 3 or our 4 dinners were burnt. Ultimately, one meal was corrected and we were given a 10% discount on 2 of them. The server seemed like she could hardly speak through her mask as if she were ill and told us that you we had arrived during a menu change. I believe it was a manager who came to clear glasses on our table and we asked about my husband's burnt dinner so he replaced 1 piece of chicken and told us it was frozen and they were thawing it before they cooked it which would take a few minutes. I believe we were under the impression that your food was farm to table fresh. Although we didn't complain, we just didn't eat our meals and the gentleman offered us each a 10% discount off 2 of our dinners. He was very nice.
Please support this restaurant. Jean has done all she can do to keep everyone safe during the pandemic. The food is wonderful. The wine is special. Jean and her family take good care of you. We booked her special Christmas dinner to take home. The weather was bad so Jean called and told us she was delivering to our house -- a whole duck and all the ficins. What a treat! I cannot recommend more highly.
A great experience, we’ll be certain to go again !!
Always a great place to sit outside and enjoy date night. Great atmosphere and you're never rushed by the staff. The filet and potatoes and cheese tray is always very good. Highly recommended!
