From the moment we walked in the door, we knew we had found a special place. Everything about our experience was great; service , fresh food, and atmosphere. Looking forward to going again soon. Thank you Jean for you warm and kind hospitality!
A great evening celebrating the holidays with friends. The restaurant was beautifully decorated and the wine, Cabernet Franc, outstanding as well. My favorite dish, Lobster Pappardelle, was the highlight of the evening.
Gave JF another try after a few bad experiences a year or so ago. We were pleasantly surprised to say the least. The Lobster Pappardelle was outstanding, the charcuterie was fantastic, and the Cabernet Sauvignon was surprisingly good for a KY wine. We will be back. Give it a shot!
We always enjoy visiting Jean Farris. The food never disappoints. I wish more people knew about this hidden gem. It's a little out of the way, but well worth the drive to get out of the city and experience fine dining. The prices are more than what you would pay for a run-of-the-mill, generic chain restaurant. However, I think the prices are more than reasonable for the quality.
Service was excellent - both at the bar and in the service provided by our table server, Angel. The turkey was perfection and we loved the corn pudding and asparagus. The only portion of the meal we weren't thrilled with was the "ham". It was served more as pulled pork rather than the ham slices we envisioned. Very flavorful but much of it was too tough/dry for us to eat. We would definitely recommend Jean Farris to friends and we will certainly return. Thank you for making our Thanksgiving meal a wonderful experience.
This was our Thanksgiving meal. Service was extremely slow for all the busier they were. Not only was service slow, but everything was very disjointed. No one seemed to know what they were doing. We will not be returning. It is a shame because this used to be a great dining spot!
Had a lovely Thanksgiving meal. The place looked beautiful, the service was prompt and the food was amazing!!
Awesome food, atmosphere, and service. A great place to spend a special evening.
Thanksgiving meal.... Great food and service Thank You for allowing us to dine with you on this day.
Its always a great evening at Jean Farris! The menu changes frequently yet reliably has something for most everyone.
This was our 3rd visit and by far our worst experience. The sammon was over cooked and lighting made me feel like I was in a cave.
Cute place and great wine! Cheese and homemade crackers were tasty as well!
We've been coming here for over three years. The place has periods when it's a 4+ star restaurant (been a long time), but then other times it is simply terrible. Currently, the waitstaff is untrained, unfriendly and largely just food runners.
The venue is gorgeous. I continue to love the place and hope it survives. You really have to go when in the daylight hours so the venue can overcome so many of the other shortcomings.
So much variability in the food even on the same offering within a single week. Sometimes, you'll go and they won't even offer you the bread and butter that is part of the standard visit. There's just no process here across the system.
Staff rarely even thank you when you leave.
I normally don't leave reviews. This one is not to necessarily prevent customer visits. As I say, I love the venue. I love going there. I hope it remains and they can figure out how to improve. It's more of just an effort to give feedback. Sadly, given they never even stop by your table to make serious inquiry about the experience and food, it seems they don't even consider it important to find out how they're doing.
We had dinner at Jean Farris Winery & Bistro this past weekend. It was a lovely fall evening and a nice drive in the country. One of the cocktail specials for the weekend was a tasting of 4 popular items. They were fabulous. It’s worth stopping in just for this. Our meals were also very, very good. The vegan diner loved the chicken of the forest mushroom entree’. The accompanying lentils and fennel were perfectly prepared and the mushroom is a favorite. If you’ve not had one, try it. Even the carnivore liked it and said it tasted like chicken! The steak dinner the carnivore ordered was spot on as far as preparation and the sides were also very tasty. We had a wonderful night out - thanks to all the staff at JF.
This is our “go to” restaurant for vegetarian options, happy hour deals, and comfortable service. The weekend specials are always a good choice and don’t miss happy hour.
Excellent food with an interesting and healthy menu. The ambiance was so beautiful with the vineyards surrounding the bistro.
The wine was absolutely amazing.
Had a wonderful meal and enjoyed a flight of wine. It was great to have vegan options on the menu. We were seated and after just over 10 minutes I went up and had to ask for a server. We then watched the server visit a table who had been seated after us and give them service first. We had a few servers through the night but no one consistent. We were glad the food was good! Service was not.
Great night out!!! The food, wine, and service were all top notch. I would recommend this restaurant for a romantic night out.
Good food, service, and drinks as always! Great night out, thank you we will see you again soon!
Had dinner with my Mom there a few weeks ago. While the view was beautiful and it was a nice ride to the restaurant. The service and food was ok compared to the high prices they charged. The restaurant was not busy but the service was slow and several people around us had to send their food back because it was not fully cooked.
While they do have an extensive wine list and the wine was very good. The price of the food does not equal the quality. It was a nice night with great company but I would not go back.
I had not been in a few years and I must say the ambiance and quality of food have really declined. However the service was really lovely!
Always a relaxing night out; gourgous sunset gaurenteed, delightful service, tasty food and spirited cocktails. This is my neighborhood spot, I recommend you give it a try.
service has for sure declined!!!! Food is so so nasty! Service is awful! Bartender has no clue on mixing drinks! Manager is super super rude. Way way over priced! DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY OR TIME
I am always impressed by the wine, food, and service at Jean Farris! The ambiance and view is also amazing.
Wonderful food and great atmosphere
Food was fantastic.... not sure what happened with waitress but she was never around and we were literally the only table as we came in late.
Jean Farris is always a hit and miss environment. Best advise is to stay with wine and appetizers and avoid entrees which are overpriced and often lack the "bang" for the buck. Tried the lamb this time and was not quite sure what I got but different from any lamb I had ever tried and way overcooked. Servers were good but seemed distracted on a slow night. Jean Farris is a great place to have a glass of wine and drinks but has always been inconsistent with their menu.
The food and wine were very good and the setting was lovely. The service was incredibly awkward.
We had a fantastic family dining experience at Jean Ferris Winery. We enjoyed a glass of house Pinot Noir which paired excellently with our 3 artisanal cheese and cracker hors d’ouevre. My wife enjoyed her crab stuffed fish main and I enjoyed an excellent, well prepared filet steak for my main. Although the desserts were very tempting we were at capacity so we left. We will definitely be back on our next trip to Lexington!
Perfect date night for my girlfriends birthday. Food was good, service was comfortable, and cocktails were inventive. I would recommend.
We loved the setting, with the vineyard in the background as we ate outside in the covered area. The drive there was lovely as well. The Jean Farris wines were quite good, the BLT salad delicious, and the grouper very good, as well. Staff was friendly and service exemplary. The outside seats could use a soft cushion, as they are quite hard. We might have stayed for dessert if they were more comfortable. All in all, we loved our early dinner here and will definitely be back when we are in the area several times a year, taking care of our cabins near the Red River Gorge and Natural Bridge State Resort Park.
Terrific as always!
My in laws were coming to town and my mother in law is gluten free and I was very worried about what she would eat. Jean farris was very helpful in finding food safe for everyone and it was wonderful. I highly recommend the cheese boards as they have always been one of my favorite things at Jean farris.
Jean Farris winery and bistro was an amazing evening it was everything and then some that we needed and that I expected we will definitely be back to the restaurant again.
We sat on the patio and the setting was relaxing. However, the menu was limited, with very few choices. Our server was very nice and professional, but there was a long lag time between when we ordered and when our food arrived. The prices also seemed quite high for what we received.
Wonderful food, service and ambience!!
Went to Jean Farris for a date night with my husband, and my overall experience was less than noteworthy. Our server had no idea what he was talking about when it came to wine. Why work at a winery if you know nothing about it? He talked way too much, and we could hear him talking no matter where he was at in the restaurant. He told us multiple times that he lived right above the staircase, and that the owner called him her "prisoner". These are not things I want to know when paying $100+ for two entrees, that were mediocre. I talked to the other server, Audrey, and she seemed well informed with the wine menu and was able to answer all the questions our server was unable to answer. Most likely would not come back. Don't waste your money.
My husband, myself and another couple had a wonderful dinner. The Heirloom Tomato tasting was amazing! It had us all drooling for more! The women had the scallop entree. We loved the brussell sprouts and carrot puree. We had never had carrots prepared like that before and we really enjoyed it. My husband had the filet which was very flavorful but he ordered medium rare and it was presented very rare. We sent it back with no problem and they fixed it perfectly. Our only issue were the greens served with the pork loin that set all our mouths on fire with it's red pepper. They were quick to bring another option. The waitress had a quick wit and was wonderful! We loved her! The sous chef came out several times to speak to us. Everyone was so friendly it was like being home with family! We will definitely return!
Saw from the highway and decided to stop. Location was easy to find. Food was delicious. Our server was new but willing to league with us. Glad to see that they hire Veterans.
Great meal with outdoor patio seating to enjoy the sunset. Their wine and the food, particularly the local cheese on the charcuterie board, was very good. Overall a very nice place and atmosphere. Recommended.
