Jean Farris Winery & Bistro
Here on the estate we grow our own fruits, vegetables, herbs, eggs, and honey to use in the winery and in the kitchen. We serve our farm products with the wine, beer, and spirits that speak of our region. To us "Home-made" is a practice not a philosophy. With that our menu changes several times a year, reflecting the seasons. Staying in time and in touch with the cycles of seasons and what is naturally available to us.
We look forward to having you joining us at our table and sharing a night at Jean Farris.

We had fantastic food, great service, and enjoyed the beautiful atmosphere away from the hustle and bustle of life! This place is amazing if you are looking for an atmosphere to enjoy conversation, food, drinks, and fellowship. Very relaxing! Staff very friendly and accommodating. They were very busy Easter Sunday but they handled it all very professional. We expected a longer visit and a busy crowd since it was Easter Sunday.GREAT JOB!!
The place is very nice, especially if the weather is good. I was there for Easter Brunch and although the place did not look super busy, we waited for over an hour for our meal. The food was good and the staff apologetic but I was embarrassed as I brought out of town guests there. Some personnel management training could really help.
Horrible experience. Server was incompetent. Food was cold and not prepared correctly, came out an hour after we ordered. We had a reservation for 12:30, finally got to leave at 3:00 hungry and very disappointed. We will never go back.
We have been to Jean Farris 6-8 times in the past. Always delicious, beautiful, fun, and, romantic. However, Easter brunch was different. Food was cold, undercooked, and underwhelming. I understand it was a holiday and they were busy. I didnt even mind the 1 1/2 hour wait for food. The cheese plate and soup held us over and the Easter egg hunt was loads of fun. I was expecting an awesome meal and they didnt deliver.
Easter. Long time between ordering and when food was served. I was served cold coffee. It was Easter Sunday. I was expecting to have a more extensive menu for this holiday.
Our initial waitress was very lovely & pleasant. The food was WAY overpriced & underwhelming. Bad selection with no variety or options and the presentation of the food may be the worst I’ve seen in a restaurant - The sausage that comes mandatory with most entrees (no options) looked so disgusting no one would even try it. The staff seemed disorganized, yet friendly.
I’ve been here once before for dinner and the food was delicious & service was slow but good and I was excited to return. This was a big disappointment for Easter brunch with small family.
Had a birthday with a group of 8 and had a wonderful time. Was in a quiet room . Service and food were excellent. Thanks so much.
The food at Jean Farris never disappoints!
As always, both the food and the service were excellent! The restaurant was a little on the cold side but otherwise everything was perfect!
Two of us ordered steaks medium rare, one was medium rare as ordered, the other was medium to well done. Another member of our party ordered scallops and she received 3 scallops on her plate. Service was great, waitress was very attentive. The food was sub par for the price. 4 meals and 2 of the less expensive bottles of wine for roughly $200.00.
Birthday dinner was outstanding!!!
Our food took quite a length of time from order to delivery. One member of our groups did was served well undercooked (raw hamburger)
We brought friends from Cincinnati (where there is a thriving restaurant scene). They were wowed by their food (the scallops, the pork), the ambiance, the wine (Jean Farris Merlot) and the setting. Our food (the gluten-free, Vegan risotto; filet mignon) were very tasty and artfully plated. We shared desserts, including the house-made Madeline’s. (See photo). All in all, it was a lovely evening with great food, great service (Tesica), and good friends.
Best ending to Lexington Business trip! We were in Lexington for client meetings and the weather was unexpectedly spring like (versus our home in Canada which still verges on Winter) so we were looking for a dinner location that would allow us to embrace the 70 plus degree weather one last time. Jean Ferris was exceptional. First, we were seated in a lovely glassed in room overlooking the vineyard and back patio. Then we were greeted by none other than Jean Ferris who kindly welcomed us into "her home". Great suggestions on cocktails, flights to help our decision making on wines and beers; a tour of her wine room where the magic happen;, and amazing suggestions on food selections. The Appetizers were absolutely amazing - highly recommend Goose Scotch Eggs, Nate's Wings, Butcher Board, Beet & Burrata salad. After dinner, we wanted to continue to enjoy the lovely evening, and she made us comfortable on her patio (which was not officially open for the season yet) but also brought out a gas bonfire to add the final touch. We truly did feel welcome in "Jean's home" in every way, and very much look forward to the next opportunity to enjoy her charming winery and bistro.
Let me start by saying that this isn't your traditional 'fancy dining' - but in a POSITIVE way. The owner and staff are very involved, knowledgeable, and friendly. You are literally eating at the owner's farm which provides a family feel to guests and regular customers. The cocktails are definitely a hidden gem in Lexington. The food was great. The view is stunning with sunset and landscapes that make having a glass of the Red Head wine a real treat. You are truly treated like family and I would recommend this place to anyone local or traveling.
Tonight I brought my mother and girlfriend to this restaurant. The staff was unbelievably friendly. The service was second to none. The appetizer (cheese board with sausage) was expertly assembles and presented. The meals were outstanding. We received personal attention from both the owner and the chef. Lemon mandolins and coconut flan were perfect.
This place is a total gem. Highly recommended. We will be back without a doubt!!!
Great as always! The brunch menu is fantastic with organic eggs from Hens, Ducks, and Geese.
One of my favorite places in Lexington with the best patio. The service is wonderful and the food is fresh, flavorful and well presented. I'll definitely be back to try all the new dishes on the spring menu.
Side dishes were very salty. No salt or pepper on the table and none near by. Wanted pepper and by the time anyone came back to check on us, the food was mostly eaten and not worth the comment. Silverware not clean. Sparkling wine served without any sparkle (it was flat). Bartender not knowledgeable about available beverages.
I don't know what they would do if they had a full crowd. There was only one other couple besides us. It took over half an hour to get our food. The meal was so so. No one came to give us the check
I really want this place to be good! It's so close to my house and the environment is quaint and nearly perfect. However.... In my opinion, if you're going to be a fine restaurant then commit to it and do it right! The appearance is more one of them skimping to get by and cutting corners. There was no wait staff apart from the owner who was also the hostess. Instead of a basket of bread, myself and my date were given one piece of bread with a vibe that seemed to say "make it last". The menu features a filet with the caveat that it will take 40 minutes to prepare which sort of scared us off it, though in retrospect it took 35 minutes to get our food so should've taken a chance. Having been discouraged away from the filet by the menu warning, I opted for the flank steak which ranks as one of the all-time worst steak meals I've had. The flavor was passable but the consistency was of shoe leather (though I've never eaten a shoe... until now maybe!!). At one time this place was SO good, now it just seems to lack direction or money. Won't be going back!
I regret you felt compelled by my service and the products I offer to write this review. It seems to be a misunderstanding. This is my home, farm, and business in an Ag zone. My primary purpose is Ag, I was granted the accessory use of food by Lexington. It is not fine dining but an unpretentious bistro serving a seasonal menu. Everything we do is handcrafted, a true field-to-fork experience. We work hard every day to establish a warm, welcoming experience and share our unique farm home.
We had a great evening celebrating St. Patrick’s Day!! The Irish themed dinners were delicious and Jeannie, Nate and Emilio were wonderful!! Thank you for a great holiday!!
Love the remodel. Service was really friendly. Probably the best Old Fashion I’ve ever had.
We are long time customers of Jean Farris and always look forward to enjoying a good meal there. Unfortunately this most recent experience very disappointing. One of us ordered French onion soup which was cold when served. Even after requesting it be heated up it was still only lukewarm. The lamb shank was pretty flavorless. While our waitress worked to provide good service they were clearly understaffed. We had to request salt and pepper several times, dishes were not served in a coordinated manner, and the rest of the serving staff appeared uncomfortable in that role. I am sure we will go back at some point but probably not for awhile.
We had a lovely meal at Jean Farris on Sunday. The chef always prepares something delicious for me that omits ingredients that I cannot eat. Chef also knows just how my other half likes his order and is spot on with it. We had the Riesling wine with dinner and it’s one of our favorites. Jean Farris is our go to place when we dine out. We are looking forward to the patio opening this spring.
Our meal was delicious, wine was great, and a very relaxing atmosphere. Great birthday dinner!
Just stopped in with a friend for their cheese and house made sausages. Fantastic!!! Love, love, love the crackers I’ve even had cracker making lessons from the chef. Happy Hour is a great deal until 6pm.
Excellent service ... delicious food
Terrific experience all around that ended with a free sample of what is now my new favorite wine, Red Head.
Lovely hosting, but a dining room that was cold and lacking atmosphere. Ordered a butchers board described as charcuterie and pickles. This came with a couple of sausages, olives and crackers, very poor for its $25 price tag. Mains of a Puerto Rican pork dish was very good and well received. scallops were cooked wonderfully, but missed the mark due to lack of sides.
Wines tasted from the winery were excellent and enjoyed by all. In all, our experience was enjoyable, but over priced.
We loved it. We will be back and joined the wine club. Outstanding!!!!
We was awesome! It was our anniversary. It was my second trip, his first and it stood up to the hype I had relayed to him. We will definitely go back!
Jean Farris has become one of our favorite restaurants for dinner or a special occasion. Its location away from the busyness of the city makes it unique and relaxing. The food and service are always excellent and we highly recommend it.
Went for Valentine's Day. The menu was limited, but what they did serve was good, albeit small portions. The wine was very good but we aren't big wine drinkers. Automatic 20% gratuity included. Would definitely go back for a wine tasting or maybe brunch.
I/we don't usually get appetizers, but we got both a cheese plate and a sausage plate ($20 each), and they were fantastic! Great meal too. I also don't usually get burgers in a fancy restaurant, but it was ground there from filet mignon scraps, and it was the best I've ever had.
We had a wonderful meal tonight. The kitchen was able to create a black rice pilaf that the gluten-free Vegan in our party greatly enjoyed. The seafood gumbo special was spicy and delicious. The filet mignon was butterflied as requested, and cooked perfectly. The accompanying sauce was fantastic. The venison medallions were prepared nicely and tasted great. The Puerto Rican pork and potato salad was as good as it was unusual. The service was perfectly attentive without being at all too omnipresent. The Jean Farris wines (the Cab-Sav and Riesling) were the perfect accompaniment for our meals. We’ll definitely be back. Soon!
Food and cocktails were delicious. Great for a date night or girls night out. Definitely must try! Check out their website for weekly specials and for cooking classes coming soon!
The food, drinks and service are always the best in Lexington. This night in particular was exceptional. We had the opportunity to meet Jeanne Farris and Emilio the sous chef. Their warmth and graciousness showed me why we always have such a great experience. Truly they do everything with love and it shows. Don’t miss this hidden gem.
Delicious food as always! This place never disappoints in anyway! Beautiful atmosphere, amazing staff members. An overall satisfying place to come and enjoy at anytime during the year!
