JB Hooks Ratings and Reviews
My wife's birthday dinner. Most amazing dining experience. Provided us with a great view of the lake. many thanks to our server- Mr. Rick Huntsman who guided us with our wine and dinner selections. Would recommend the KC Strip steak and any seafood special. Thanks to the chef and staff for a memorable evening.
First time at this restaurant. Very noisy and my friend and I are both a little hard hearing so had a little trouble understanding the young waitress. Salmon bisque was rather blah and the Fettucine Alfredo was overloaded with garlic. I ordered Chicken Oscar, my first time, it was good, but, it tasted like chicken, rice, béarnaise sauce, and asparagus, like four separate things, rather than a very tasty meal.
Our waiter, Rick, was excellent. He gave us an excellent table by the window overlooking the lake at sunset. He explained the food options well; visited enough to be pleasant but not overwhelming us. We were having a "goodby to the lake for now" dinner. He served us an excellent creme brulee . It was a delightful evening.
One of the best things about living at the Lake year-round now rather than just visiting is that I can eat at Hooks any time I want. And one of the things I enjoy most about eating at Hooks is the exceptional service provided by our favorite (and award-winning!) server, Rick Huntsman. I know I can trust Rick's recommendations, which have always been spot-on. My friend had the Chicken Gregory and pronounced it to be exquisite. I selected the Pesto Snapper, which was interesting. Watching the spectacular sunset while eating dinner will have to wait a few months, but we enjoyed the after-dark vista of sparkling lights reflected on the Lake. It was calm and peaceful and suited our mood perfectly.
The food and service was excellent. It was so good that we went back on Saturday evening. Also my wife lost a piece of jewelry there. Thought it was gone for good. The owner had found it and returned it at dinner on Saturday. This is our go to place any time at the Lake. Highly recommend.
We have been many times but this was our first with a reservation. It was very easy and we will use open table again. The food was great. The service from our waiter Johnny was exceptional and price as expected. We will definitely be back for our anniversary again next year.
Great experience at JB Hooks and Open Table. Made reservation for Anniversary dinner, they put us at a great table right next to windows overlooking lake. Jake our waiter was awesome and allowed us to enjoy our dinner with just the right amount of service. Made great suggestions for dinner and wine. Food was very good. Lobster was awesome....soups and sides were just ok but main entree's were perfect. Ahi Tuna appetizer excellent. Will definitely go back and try some different sides....and have the salad this time. Well done
We had another fabulous meal at Hooks. Our waiter, Rick Huntsman, made sure our birthday dinner was memorable—that lovely slice of cheesecake topped by a candle was a delightful surprise. Topping off the evening was a breathtakingly beautiful sunset. It was a special evening.
Alex was attentive and courteous as he tended to our table. It was Rick's attention to the details, though, that made this birthday celebration truly special.
It had been far too long since I returned to the Lake, and I was eagerly anticipating dining at Hooks again. I am delighted to report that I was not disappointed.
The crisp fresh ingredients and delectable dressings in our salads—Greek for me, and Gregory's for my dinner companion—were a perfect prelude to the meal. We had the melt-in-your mouth prime rib, and I savored each bite—exquisite! Topping off the meal was the best crème brûlée I've ever had.
Our server, Rick Huntsman, made this evening a special one we'll remember with fondness and laughter. Rick is poised, suave, professional...with a sharp wit that kept us in stitches. I make it a point to request Rick, and for this special outing I made sure prior to booking that he would be available to serve us. It's worth a trip to Hooks just to watch Rick work his magic.
Our buser, Anthony, did a wonderful job of attending to our table; he was unobtrusive and quietly professional as he anticipated our needs.
All in all, a memorable evening of fine dining, quiet entertainment, and a spectacular sunset over the lake.
Maxwell our waitor was excellent. The food was fantastic and the patio seating had great views. The atmosphere was different from individuals dress in suits to people in sweatpants which I found different. It made it hard to know what you were in for and if the cost would be worth it. But the food and drinks were on point and made for a great evening.
Reservations at 7:30; arrived early, seated immediately. Ordered dinner approximately 7:40-45. I requested the "Chef's Salmon of the Day", topped with Crab, $36.00. I requested "rare to medium rare, do not overcook and please make sure the potatos are hot". We were served our salads promptly and they were good. Our dinner was not served until 8:50. The salmon was overlooked and dried out. The amount of crab was minimal and shredded(out of a can). The potatos were cold. During the wait for dinner, I requested bread and was told "it is served only when dinner is served" ; made no sense! Owner comped my wife and my dinner. This is the first time I fill out a negative review. Restaurant came recommended. Could be one bad night but I suspect because of the location/view they can get buy with mediocre food and service. I will not return.
We went there for our 30th anniversary and we're not disappointed. The view was great, the food was excellent and our server (Jake) was exceptional. We followed his advice and ordered the lobster and prime rib both were delicious. Jake even surprised us with a special dessert for our anniversary.
This was the main restaurant that my husband wanted to return to on our annual visit to Osage Beach. It was our splurge for a date night and we enjoyed it very much. Husband had the stuff lobster which includes a large lobster tail with crab stuffing, scallops, and shrimp. A large and delicious meal - some people would want to split it. I tried another of their fish dishes - grouper this time. Delicious. We each had a cup of corn chowder before the meal. The view from our table which was next to the window was great. All servers were very attentive. We will be back again.
I had a great evening out with my husband celebrating my birthday at JB Hooks. I was just a bit disappointed in the stuffed mushrooms appetizer (there was noticeable amount of cream cheese which I wasn’t expecting at all , had I read the menu, I would of seen cc listed!} My salad was ok but my husband had the Gregory salad and it was amazingy! My blackened prime rib was very good and my husband loved his Chilean salmon special, hated the coffee, I found it to be very weak but who goes there for coffee? We had a great table by the window. Most of all that I enjoyed was the service! Our server, Rick, orchestrated a wonderful dining experience. The mark of a professional server is one who along with the kitchen, times everything so you are not rushed (unless you want it), yet no long lag between courses. He was attentive watching for cues and never obtrusive. Great job by the young man who cleared our table after each course. I look forward to dining there again.
Upon arrival we went to the bar to have a drink while waiting for our table and the bartender appeared to be annoyed to serve us a drink. When asking for a drink menu it was thrown at us. The drinks tasted aweful and lacked alcohol. It is difficult to mess up a double rum and coke but was accomplished by our bartender. Once being sat at the table the first question to our server was if the prime rib was available she responded with a absolutely. We only came to have the prime rib otherwise we would have left after the cold reception by the bartender. We proceeded to order the appetizers and the prime rib for the entrees with no issues. It wasn't until after the appetizers and salads arrived that we were notified by the server that they had run out of the prime rib. How can half the meal be over and the chef/server then inform the table that the prime rib is 86. I have worked in restaurants for many years and have never been treated so badly by a bartender and have my order run out when it should have been on it's way to the table. Not even a drink or dessert was offered after they informed us they didn't have our order. We did not enjoy the entrees and quickly paid and forfeited desert based on the lack luster food and service. I am shocked this restaurant has a top rating it was a complete let down to everyone at our table.
Our waiter was amazing and the food was exceptional. The timing of the meal could not have been better and the waiter had asked us if the dinner was a special occasion - which it was, a 30th service anniversary for one of my employees. The waiter at the end of dinner brought (with no special request from me) a cheesecake with the plate decorated specially that said (Happy 30th Workaversary!)....very thoughtful!!
