Jax Fish House & Oyster Bar - LoDo
Sidle up to the chef's counter where guests request chowder, gumbo, a clambake or steamed mussels that are made to order. The Jax Fish House raw bar offers chilled clams, lobster and crab as well as chef creations that enhance the flavors in various combinations. Pair any meal with one of the beer or wine choices available.
Always fresh. Always on point.
They had s bad night - reservation was 815, sat at 9. Food not only took forever but it was over cooked . Server was good, but for 400, it was not good.
I haven't been to Jax in a million years.... we use to be in there at least twice a week and as the staff changed, we also needed to move on. Coming back to Jax was on a whim but a great reminder of why we hung out here all the time. The food was outstanding and service was friendly and accommodating. While new places pop up everywhere, I am certainly planning on coming back to Jax more regularly again.
Food is fantastic, my only complaint is we had to wait 40 min for our table on a tuesday with a reservation...why make a reservation?
I will definitely be back on my next visit to Denver. Food and service was superb. We had peel and eat shrimp, hush puppies, crab fried rice and made to order clam chowder. Wanted to try more but didn't have room............
I really wanted to love Jax. I've been wanting to eat there for years so decided it was the place to go for my son's 20th birthday. The food is very expensive. And, since Jax refers to itself as a "fish house", I'd expected the fish items to be the highlight of the dishes. My daughter and I ordered the Salmon which came on a bed of various sized pieces and cooked turnips, carrots, parsnips. It also came with a very doughy type of pasta which dominated (and ruined) the entire dish. It was also quite heavy with cream sauce. My son ordered the lobster tail which also came on a bed of pasta. My husband ordered the steak. Sadly, the steak didn't arrive with our meal and we were well into our dishes when his arrived. He did say his steak was delicious but the sauce was very heavy.
Maybe we just like cleaner tasting fare and we aren't big fans of pasta, which we can eat at home.
We go here for date night and oysters it’s always amazing that is all. We highly reccomendt it
Phenomenal food. Impeccable service. Best oysters in Denver
Food very good but a little on the expensive size for the portion. Service was great. Great vibe.
Thanks for the kind words. We try and have a fun and exciting atmosphere. Thank you for the feedback. Thanks Matt Myslivy [ assistant general manager ] JAX FISH HOUSE & OYSTER BAR 1539 17th Street | Denver, CO 80202 | 303.292.5767
First off, we came in and the host did not say a single word. She looked at me, counted how many menus she needed and then started walking to the table. At the table, she gave our menus and said the waiter will be there. Someone brought water but did not say anything. We waited 10 minutes to be greeted by anyone. The waiter briefly came by and said he’ll be right with us. It wasn’t terribly busy but it looked like there was only one server working. He came and took our order;
we ordered half a dozen oysters, 2 burgers, and cornbread and some drinks.
The oysters were great but took a while to get there. I was more disappointed with the burgers. I ordered a medium rare burger but it came out dry and the outside had some burnt parts underneath the cheese. Our waiter came to see how we were doing as soon as we got our burgers and didn’t come back until we were ready to leave. It seemed like he was given too many tables to handle. Overall the experience was just not good. But we enjoyed oysters and cornbread.
It had been a while since I’d been to the Denver location and holy cow did we have some sticker shock. Average price for one raw oyster was $4 EACH! No thanks.
Jax's is always a great place to go for seafood. They do a great job of hiring great friendly staff.
Thank you for the kind words. We cannot wait to get you back in again. Thanks Matt Myslivy [ assistant general manager ] JAX FISH HOUSE & OYSTER BAR 1539 17th Street | Denver, CO 80202 | 303.292.5767
Waiter Jose was great, food delicious. One of our rare date nights that involve lots of planning and coordinating to make happen with two s small children— SO memorable. We had a really fun night. Get the cc cookies for dessert. I can still taste them, woah.
We love Jax, but our waitress wasn't the best we've had there.
Best service I have received at a restaurant in recent memory. Our table was slightly wobbly and our waiter, Mark, insisted he bring out a new table so we wouldn't have to deal with it. And this was on Rockies opening day at lunch time so it was crazy crowded! The food was top shelf and Mark kept the oysters and beers coming. Great experience.
That is amazing to hear. We strive to make sure everything is perfect. I am very glad Mark was there for you to make such a memorable experience for you all. Hope to have you back soon. The food at Jax is always outstanding and so fresh, and our server was great - very attentive. One note to the kitchen - when people are sharing a dish, it would be nice if you split it before it comes to the table.
Thank you for the feedback we will make sure to specify two plates of family style for next time. We want to make sure everything is perfect for your next visit. Thanks again. Matt Myslivy [ assistant general manager ] JAX FISH HOUSE & OYSTER BAR 1539 17th Street | Denver, CO 80202 | 303.292.5767
My second time at Jax, just as awesome as my first visit! Party of 7 people, and everyone was really happy with both food and service. Recommend trying the Halibut!
Thanks for coming back for a second time! We hope we can get you back a 3rd and a 4th. I am glad you have a great time. And everyone should try the Halibut. I love that dish. Matt Myslivy [ assistant general manager ] JAX FISH HOUSE & OYSTER BAR 1539 17th Street | Denver, CO 80202 | 303.292.5767
Went for National Oyster Day for $.75 oysters. Oysters were pretty bland, no saltiness or sweetness
Fish and chips and clam chowder was very good
Fantastic selection of seafood and all so tasty, great staff that really knows the menu and preparation of what they serve.
Thank you for the kind words. We try to make you experience as smooth and easy and memorable as possible. Thanks Matt Myslivy [ assistant general manager ] JAX FISH HOUSE & OYSTER BAR 1539 17th Street | Denver, CO 80202 | 303.292.5767
Great food, great service. The peel and eat shrimp were fantastic!
My 9year old said it best - "Jax has changed my perspective on seafood. This was so good!"
Everything about our visit was fine...but that’s it. Service was fine, food was fine, ambiance was fine. Nothing was good or exceptional in any way. We left very underwhelmed.
We love Jax! It's small so make a reservation! Great service and the food is great!
The food was amazing!
Food was outstanding - comfort seafood. Service was excellent - ambiance was causal and comfortable.
Ordered salmon and the skin was completed burnt. Even with taking the skin off it still tasted burnt, which shows how poorly it was cooked. My husband got the scallops and those were very overcooked as well. The mushrooms were extremely rubbery and this is someone who loves mushrooms! The hostess also needed a lot more training. After waiting for 5 minutes with no one at the host stand we finally checked in. She said they were paying and cleaning the table now, which ended up being 20 minutes later. She was also not friendly for someone who is running behind on reservations. I don’t understand how this restaurant was so busy and rated so well! I have not been to a restaurant this bad in a very long time! Avoid this restaurant as there are multiple great restaurants in Denver!
i proposed to my wife 10 years ago at Jax. we had an amazing experience then. this time was significantly different. the food quality was not what we remember. it smelled old and rather tasteless. fish should not smell "fishy". also our server was really unavailable and put off every time we wanted something. a bit arrogant and certainly too cool to wait on us. not a good experience and we will not go back
WilliamL, I am so sorry that his was your experience and I thank you for sharing. I will be in touch in private to hopefully learn more and make this right. Sincerely, Lee Sandoval - General Manager
Jax was perfect for a Saturday date before a show. We had a 5:15 reservation and were pleasantly surprised that it was happy hour. The food and service were top notch. We will definitely be back!
Amazing every time!
Thank you LLLT!
It was a fun night. The food was wonderful, and the crab cakes were amazing. Unfortunately, the chef could not cook a steak to the right temperature. Twice it went back, and never was right. We took the crab cakes, which they said would be comped. They weren't. We decided just to pay and not argue the point - that was a bummer. No management even came to the table.
Overall our experience was decent. The prices for the quality and amount of food were a bit high. For example, we ordered 1/2 lb of crab legs for $45 but received only 2 average size legs and one really small one. The calamari was deep fried with so much batter that we mainly tasted the batter and very little flavor. The place was really loud forcing us to have to almost yell to hear each other. Our server was really good and attentive.
Happy hour at Jax is incredible: good menu with reasonable portions and great deals on drinks as well. Our new favorite.
Visiting with nieces
I think this is a yummy place to eat, for seafood in Colorado I was impressed and yes, I would definitely suggest a friend eat here.
We had the mussels in chorizo appetizer (I am drooling now) and they were real good. I had the diver scallops with leek puree and delicata squash while my husband had the charred spanish octopus. Both of our dishes were nicely prepared, well garnished and perfectly seasoned - we both agreed we would get that dish again in the future. We shared an amazing roasted brussels sprout side I would highly recommend - little pieces of bacon and perfectly crispy brussels, wow...
Our amazing initial server was in the cocktail or reception area - he was AWESOME!! I so wish I could recall his name...he got our app started, brought us drinks and made us feel really welcome. He was a fantastic server and I kinda wish I had stayed at the tiny table up front just to finish the rest of the meal with him - he was so on point!! The waiter at our table was fine - he was really not that great though and he kinda sorta cared about us in his nonchalant way. Again, for me, I wish I had just abandoned the table and stayed up front, the service was wildly better.
The price of the meals was reasonable, I didnt balk at what we got in comparison to what we paid. I was very full and very satisfied, feeling the presentation, quality, amount, layers of flavor, all were worth the price.
Thank you for the great food Jax!
Always great service & great food. Love the fish choices on the menu & always order the Calamari it's amazing
Great meal, love Jax. They had 10 different oysters on the menu when we went. Always the freshest oysters & seafood. Crab trio is the way to go.
Thank you for choosing to dine with us and thank you for the review and rating!
With Big Red’s service and the freshness of the food, we were in heaven. Thanks for a great date night with the wife!!
The food and drinks were great. The service was not what I expected. The waiter did not do a great job taking care of our table and disappeared a few times. Waited for check for 15 minutes. Had out of town business guests. I was surprised.
Food is always amazing. And the service is as well. Highly recommend th is restaurant
As always service from host to leaving was as expected, perfect. Food was as always most enjoyable. So glad this is walking distance grim our home
