A special place we rely on for special occasions. Great service and oysters. Check out the one in Boulder too.
This is a great place for special occasions, we go there for special occasions, like birthdays, anniversaries, and Valentines day, love the food, especially the seafood, since I'm from the east coast there's not much seafood places here to eat at, so this is a great place to go to, next we go we are getting the great big seafood platter they serve.
I took my girlfriend on Valentine's day. We both ordered the Valentine's day 4 course meal and added the optional $25.00 wine pairing.
Our first wine pairing didn't come until the 3 course. The dinner and pairings were never explained to us, therefore we never really knew which pairing or which course we were on.
Service was great. Food was fresh and tasted excellent.
Went for happy hour. The happy hour menu has some great options so we just got a bunch of plates and sampled. This is the only place where I will get oysters in KC. Always fresh and they they have great options.
Excellent service - food and cocktails were incredible!
We had a lovely time at Jax’s! We’d never been before and decided to try it out for our early Valentine’s Day date. The food was wonderful and the service was as well! The Ambiance and decor is really cool too, kind of upscale but very relaxed. We’ll be back for sure!
Some of the food was excellent. Other just average. It took forever to get our drinks.
Food was outstanding. Great atmosphere. Happy hour offerings were tremendous.
Food is excellent but slightly pricey for what you get.
We had yet another lovely time at jax. It was an icy night so there were very few clients in the restaurant. That made it very easy for conversation. And the oysters were amazing! Thank you!
Great service, every dish we had was excellent. If you like a cocktail with a little heat, Bangkok Fizz is top notch.
Great fresh seafood with lots of choices. Delicious oysters and cocktails. It was fun to watch the fish in the aquarium.
Valet parking is available for only $5, which we took advantage of and which I would highly recommend. Be sure and tip your valet before as ours was not available afterwards. We started our dinner with the excellent ceviche and jumbo shrimp. For dinner we had the Hot Messy Shrimp (highly recommended) and the Glazed Salmon, both of which were delicious. We finished off our dinner with excellent deserts and coffee. The only item missing and which is necessary if you have the hot messy shrimp, is a finger bowl.
Very expensive. Oysters and wedge salad were excellent. They serve their crab legs, shrimp, and lobster cold which wasn’t very appetizing. Fruit de mar has baby octopus in it which I couldn’t stomach. Paid $260 with a $52 tip. An expensive dinner for really only liking the salad and oysters.
Delicious food, great drinks, and good service!
Sunday brunch with the girls. I loved the thai chili infused vodka for my bloody mary (amazing). I can't wait to check out the happy hour. Highly recommended for brunch.
This was our first visit. Food and service were excellent. Blue point oysters and swordfish were great! Valet parking was easy and convenient next door at The Fontaine.
Waiter was great, wait was long, portions were way tok small for the price you pay
This was our first visit and we were joined by a friend visiting from Chicago. Our server, Tim, was fantastic. He was friendly and very helpful. We each enjoyed a different entree and they were all very good. We will definitely come back.
The food was a big okay. I would come back and sit at the bar to order oysters. The rest was okay but not great. Service was friendly but not enough of it. Had a problem getting you proper flatware for your order and clean wine glasses. Maybe staffing is an issue?
Good food. Very loud. Nice choices for Restaurant week.
What a fun place! Excellent Service and great food!
Went for my wife’s birthday. Her salmon wasn’t cooked all the way. She was offered dessert and they never asked if I wanted any dessert.
Enticed by Jax's decision to extend their restaurant week specials, my wife and I hit up our favorite "special occasion" restaurant. We were early enough to catch the tail end of happy hour, so we were able to enjoy some raw emersum and charbroiled oysters. I had the blackened catfish, which was outstanding, and my wife had the pepper and maple glazed salmon, which was tender and delicious. Overall, I cannot recommend Jax enough. Every time we visit, the service is impeccable, the staff are friendly and enthusiastic, and the food is excellent.
Our waiter was on point. He did a great job. The food was fabulous. My family and I will definitely be back to eat. Only thing that was not up to par was being greeted when we walked in. It was after lunch so it wasnt busy. We stood at the entry for several minutes before I had to speak up to a waitress who had her back to us in the bar. She was at the register but we were never greeted and had to ask to be helped.
When we first arrived 15 minutes before our reservation, we went to the hostess to check in. She said there were a few other reservations ahead of us still, so we could wait at the bar until our table was ready. We did this even though we could see open tables throughout the restaurant that never got filled. We waited at the bar for 30 minutes (15 minutes past our reservation time) and then proceeded to ask the hostess the status of our table. Conveniently they could seat us right then, which made us believe they forgot about us.
We went for restaurant week and of their selections we chose the Maple glazed salmon and the crabcake burger. The salmon was good, but the noodles it was paired with were only so so. The crabcake burger however was delicious. Our servers at the table and at the bar were pleasant and not overbearing.
Overall we would go back for their happy hour, but maybe not for their dinner.
We visited Jax Fish House for restaurant week and were not disappointed. Not only was the food amazing, the service was even better! Cindy was a great waitress. The environment was very welcoming and vibrant. We will definitely be back.
We visited for Kansas City restaurant week. The options and pricing did not seem to highlight the qualities of the restaurant.
This is always a fun and delicious place to eat. A great hh, fabulous desserts and drinks too.
Lunch was great!
Extremely slow service. Went for lunch during work and it took 90 minutes. Burger came out way undercooked.
I have a diary allergy and food was brought out twice that had dairy in it. Additional to that, we
Service was not up to par with having a large party of all adults ready to drink, spend money and have a good time — no kids or anything crazy. Server rushed everyone to get situated and order, creating awkwardness for the start of the dinner. Chill out and let people socialize; it’s a birthday celebration. We received one drink refill, and probably would have ordered more had we not been ignored in the beverage department. Food was good; KC Restaurant Week seems to have gone downhill, however.
Service was almost better than the food!
First time eating there had the blackened catfish with cheesy grits and greens excellent grits were smooth and creamy will be going back to try other menu items highly recommend
I grew up on the beach so I'm accustomed to, but not snobbish, good seafood. I'm not oblivious to the fact you can't get seafood fresh off the dock in the middle of Kansas City, but here goes:
Our server, Kevin H., was spot on and educated well on the menu, drinks, and making suggestions about pairings. Staff were constantly walking around refilling our water. Dehydration was not an issue.
I was craving some oysters so I looked at the menu. They were $2.50-$4.00 EACH. I couldn't believe it. Back home they're $10/dozen. I passed on those even though they had a good coastal variety.
I had a crab cake burger and fries. It was awful. There was twice as much bread to crab so much so I just scraped it off the bread to eat. It was full of filler. Obviously the crab meat was out of a tub, but that was assumed. The dill, lime, whatever tartar sauce was over powering. I couldn't even finish the crab. I think I ate four bites. Kevin didn't recommend it - I should have taken his advice.
The fries were tiny strings. There was no chance of them being soft in the middle. It was like eating potato chips.
I had the pumpkin cheesecake for dessert. Presentation was great. So rich, though, I could taste the grains of sugar.
My girlfriend asked for an Irish coffee, but the bar was so busy, it wasn't on the menu, and they didn't know what to charge. Therefore, she couldn't get it.
Luckily it was restaurant week so we probably got a little more bang for our buck.
The atmosphere was nice and it is a quality restaurant. If you didn't grow up on a dock or eating fresh catch your whole life, you probably wouldn't know any better. The food for the price, though? Not worth it. KC does ribs and BBQ much better than seafood and they should stick to what they know.
I have been to Jax 4 or 5 times and the food never disappoints. Their happy hour food menu is great! I love the $1.50 oysters, its a great deal. My latest visit was during KC Restaurant week and my first 2 courses were delicious. The last course was chocolate chips cookies which I think need some improvement, or at least serviced with a scoop or ice cream or something similar.
Overall, great restaurant and great food!
Great restaurant and service. Thank you for helping furloughed government employees.
