Jax Fish House & Oyster Bar - Boulder
The menu at Jax Fish House is dependent on market availability as all of the seafood used in house is flown in daily from one of the coasts. Guests favorites include hot oysters in three different flavors, green curry mussels and the sinker sampler platter with East Coast oysters, green lip mussels, peel n' eat shrimp, snow and king crab and lobster.
30th wedding anniversary dinner! Best food we’ve had in Boulder and staff very attentive. Thanks for making our day special!
Great experience, friendly and attentive waitstaff. The green curry mussels are INCREDIBLE.
Great! We loved it!!! All of it!!!
Seafood is very fresh, food are well seasoned, bartender is very knowledgeable and great service. We even bought the gift card for our friends to come here.
My friend and I came to celebrate her birthday, which I had indicated at the time of our reservation. We were surprised and delighted to discover a birthday card hand-signed by the staff waiting for us at our table, which I'd never experienced before--Jax really pays attention to the smallest details! We split the large order of peel-and-eat shrimp, which came with a mild mustard sauce and a hotter combo of tomato and horseradish sauce which you could mix yourself to your liking, and the pear salad, which was a tasty and unusual combination of greens, bacon, and pear. The servings were just right for this over-60 pair. We also split the key lime pie, a perfect ending to our meal. Our waitress couldn't have been more helpful and friendly, and we left feeling well-fed and taken care of. Thank you, Jax!
By far one of the best restaurants in Boulder. The oyster bar is stocked with amazingly fresh and delicious choices of both east and west coast oysters. The gumbo rivals anything I've tasted in New Orleans. The service is well timed and exceptionally knowledgeable and friendly. The dining room is a bit small and usually full. Reservations are definitely helpful especially during the weekend. I would recommend Jax to anyone who loves great food, drinks, and a lively atmosphere.
When visiting Boulder we always make sure to have dinner here. Great food and service.
We had lovely meal and a great experience - Butterfish and Halibut we both excellent.
Fabulous service and food. A bit pricey but we don’t get to do this often so we were ok with it
Second time here and it was as good as the first. Wonderfully creative dishes that taste as good as the presentation. Service is consistently friendly and excellent.
How lucky were we to get a fabulous window seat! We enjoyed great raw and fried spicy oysters. The Caesar salad was by far the best I’ve ever had!!!! They were able to accommodate a shrimp sensitivity with the jambalaya. It was absolutely delicious even without the shrimp. And finally, the bread pudding is to die for.
Oysters were, marginal, but, the rest was horrible
Incredible meal! Oysters were so good!
Creative seafood meal with fun atmosphere and superb service
We celebrated our son’s first year of college at Jax and wen had amazing service and excellent food!! Definitely will go back to Jax in boulder!
We both had the Halibut special and it was excellent. Our server was excellent.
One of my favorite local places still ! Always great fresh fish & oysters. Staff is friendly and knowledgeable about menu, specials, drinks etc.
Always great, creative dishes and outstanding service.
The best service I have had in a long time. Thank you see you guys soon.
Jax is just the best & Brad is the man. Thanks as always.
Love the feel and menu options. Two critiques: 1. The Lobster Roll was not made with Maine lobster (maybe with Pacific lobster?) and that meant it didn’t have the sweet lobster flavor I was craving. The woman at the table next to us was similarly disappointed—we agreed it seemed weird they didn’t indicate that the lobster wasn’t Maine lobster and that $25 for a lobster roll seemed like a lot if it’s not. 2. When my husband asked about the Calabrian chiles in his dish and their spice level, the waiter pretty rudely said that they were chiles and if he didn’t want spicy food he shouldn’t order food with chiles. (My husband likes spicy food but just didn’t want something super hot.)
Great service. Amazing food combinations on each plate.
Everything was perfect!
Awesome place but always over crowded...tables can be so close to others that you may as well eat dinner with the people sitting next to you. They need a bigger establishment for sure. My husband and I have been there several times because the food is wonderful. I wish they had king crab legs as they used to before, and it was on their physical menu and online. That needs to be updated! Biggest downfall was their side ceasar salad which was served on a large plate and had maybe 4 tiny lettuce leaves, 3 croutons, and honestly it looked like a few people ate most of the salad before it was served to us. No compliments to the chef! Stop being stingy with the salad!
Excellent, well prepared food. Attentive service and very efficient. We enjoyed our visit very much.
Love this place! I come every visit to Boulder. The server was great. He was polite and educated on the oysters as well as the individual dishes. The water glasses were never empty and the wine and beer selection was just right. Thank you for bringing back the tuna dish. Delicious!
Great happy hour all day monday
We brought an out of town visitor and enjoyed tbe auintessetial Boulder experience dinner on the sidewalk, nice wine, music from Oscar Blues across the street.
Pear salad with butternut squash and other goodies was generous and delicious. Crab cake was awesome. Lobster roll was delicious and arrived with perfectly cooked fries. The small caesar that preceeded it seemed a bit skimpy but acceptable, but the dinner version (as a main course) was an embarassment to the restaurant. It was so small that we thought the waiter had brought the half size in error.
Flourless chocolate cake for me (it is still Passover) was heavenly and the creme brulee would have been equally so if it has not been spoiled by the addition of some very herbaceous tasting peppermint flavoring.
All in all, we would return and continue recommending Jax, but that salad should be triple in size if the price remains $10.
PS: Our waiter was awesome.
Absolutely one of the best meals I have ever had. Pricey but worth it
Wonderful service and food. The place is rather small so feels crowded and is noisy. A great place but would not recommend for a romantic date night.
Our waiter was very attentive and helpful. Only issue was high noise level. Food great as always!
Always a favorite spot! I was so happy to show new friends Jax and they loved it! We had a great server - Alex. She was attentive, honest, and thoughtful. Food was delicious and tasted fresh and our drinks were very much enjoyed!
Great NoLo pop up event
Jax is our favorite restaurant in Boulder. Consistently great food, service and always a fun night! Can’t wait to go again!
Great food and service, I would recommend Jax to all
One of our favorite places...always a great selection of seafood starting with oysters, good selections of wines both by glass or bottle. Had a fantastic mussel appetizer with unique Asian Thai broth instead of traditional tomatoes wine base....one of the best creme brûlée’s I have had in a while...great staff as usual....
Wonderful oyster selection, great service and excellent dinner. Totally recommend this restaurant!
OUTSTANDING !!!!!! OUTSTANDING... OUTSTANDING ..... OUTSTANDING
Jax is always consistently fantastic. Both food and service are top notch.
